Black Screen Appears And Everything Stops?
Dec 14, 2011
Initially, it only appeared on first boot (before Windows logo loading screen) and after restart system booted up normally. For some 4-5 days now, it crashes with a BSOD and after restart the system freezes on desktop. One more restart and works again.Sometimes just a black screen appears and everything stops, before the desktop is loaded. It has also happened that the laptop hangs on BIOS logo.BSOD error messages I managed to record are1) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x000000D1 [...] igdlkmd32.sys2) BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER STOP 0x000000FE [...] USBPORT.SYS3) Empty BSOD with only 1 line: 'STOP 0x000000314) MEMORY MANAGEMENT 0x0000001AI updated the drivers with Driver Genius, some other driver update software and also performed some online driver scans.Memtest results - No errors found.Ran thorough diskcheck in Windows.Windows was reinstalled recently, problems remained. The system has been sent for diagnostics and repair several times, specialists say they see nothing wrong with it. And when I take it home it crashes again.

I'll try to explain as best I can. I have a custom built pc, running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, Intel LGA 775 motherboard, Intel Xeon 2.4 Quad processor, 550 watt power supply and nvidia GeForce 9800 GT graphics card. I do audio recording, and use an external audio interface (novation x-station 49). My computer has ran flawlessly for the past year or so, now my 2 (22" Samsung) monitors go black after a few minutes. It started out once or twice a day, now it only takes about 5 minutes.
My first thought was the video card (because both monitors go black) which I'm still in the 5 year warrantee period, so I can get it replaced. Everything is normal, then I get a second of messed up screens, then it goes black. When the screens are messed up, they look like the one referring to bad video card ram in this link... Diagnose video card problems by comparing with example corrupted screens

the screen glitches with pink, white, and green tiles and lines, the cursor disappears, the screen goes black, and the hard drive stops spinning. All the lights on the front of the computer stay on, the fans stay on, and the monitor doesn't say anything about not receiving a signal. The first time it happened I tried turning it on right away and it booted up and let me sign in, but as it was loading the desktop and icons it glitched again, and froze. after I shut down and let it sit for a while it worked just fine until the next day when it did the same thing again, but twice in one day and with a shorter time between freezes. Today I had a WerFault.exe error pop up and when I clicked ok on it the bottom half of my screen turned pinkish and the computer froze when I restarted the pink tone was still there but it did not show up on any windows that I opened and when the background changed it went away.

My computer has had problems starting up. On some occasions, I will get to the Welcome screen, and it will just sit there as long as I keep the computer on. Sometimes, it will get past the Welcome screen only to get to a black screen with no desktop or toolbar. To get it to work, I have to start the computer in safe mode and then restart it. I thought it was a virus, so I did a scan with my antivirus (Avast) but it did not detect anything.

I have two machines that I've installed Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on and I'm having the same problem on both. When I turn on my computer it goes to the login welcome screen and stops. I have to click on my picture for it to continue logging into the desktop. I have no password and only one admin account set up on either one.
I tried setting up the auto login using netplwiz in the search bar but it doesn't do anything. I set up a password and set up the autologin and it didn't work on either machine. So now I'm back to no password and in need of help. Anyone got any ideas?

i would leave a laptop i have over night and use it the very next morning without having to loggon to it again , interesting enough when i leave it unattended often i get the loggon screen showing at random times - knowing that i do not get logged out from account - when left unattended , here are the steps i checked to insure i am not being hacked :
1 - avg internet security business edition 2012
2 - screen saver is checked where it would not put log in screen back on resume
3 - checking that allow remote assistance and remote desktop disabled and yet i still get this random event , any thoughts to how it might be generated or what to check ?

After about 2-3 hours I had everything installed, powered up just fine, popped in the windows 7 disc and started installation. Everything ran smoothly until first restart. It went to the screen where the colors fly in to form the Windows logo and says starting windows and then just sits at that screen indefinately. I've searched numerous forums trying to find an answer but I haven't found any with the exact problem i'm having.

I just installed NFS the Run and Battlefield 3 on my windows 7 Dell XPS, the game showed me an error and asked me to download driver version 259.38 from the nvidia website, I did so and the game started working, but not properly. Anyway, so I restarted my laptop and after the 'starting windows' screen, it went blank, the blue log in screen never came (i could hear the tune though). Then i restored my system to a previous date (thereby uninstalling the new driver) and now the system is working but the game is showing the same error again

I am working on a friend's Compaq Presario CQ-62-231NR laptop. It runs Windows 7, 64bit.The computer was purchased about a year and a half ago. When I startup the computer I get the screen saying the computer wasn't shut down properly before....do you want to start up in safe mode, etc. No matter which option I choose it freezes shortly after the welcome screen comes up. Its within seconds. Any advice on how I could resolve this problem? The Windows 7 software was installed prior to purchase and she never created a system restore disc...so I do not have any software discs to reinstall with

I'm weeks of spasmodic attempts into replacing my old C-drive with a new SSD and a clean install of Windows 7, 32 bit. Here's the current loop: Following Sandisk's instructions on formatting SSD for use as OS with Win 7:
1) I verify BIOS - SATA is (as before) set to ACHI
2) I place Windows 7 upgrade disc in drive, hoping to use "Option 1 - normal clean install" (from Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version )
3) I get "Windows Error Recovery" screen, stating "windows did not shut down normally" (white text on black screen), with two options - start normally, or startup repair.
- if I select "start normally," it merely returns (after a minute or two) to the same Error Recovery screen after some POSTs (nothing other than single-beep) - no request for my input, no "press any key," etc.
- if I select default ("startup repair") option load: "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" ultimately results after a lot of attempting to repair, etc.
PC will still run Ok from old HD when connected, and shows the SSD in Disk Management with a "System Reserved" 100 MB (F) partition along with a 112GB (E) partition. I keep thinking I need to wipe those and try again, but not sure how or if that's even worth trying. I did have the same SSD up and running Win 7 for a brief time - didn't start at some point afterwards...

I recently built a computer, and tried to install Windows 7 OEM on it, but it gets stuck at the screen where it says starting windows and the logo appears. The logo gets smaller and larger. I've been told it might be something with the RAM, but tested it out and that's not the problem.

It happens when I am playing solitare or writing an email, which is the screen freezes and I have to turn off the computer to regain the monitor function or the computer. The message that I captured in relationship to the issue is WD-20110802-1520.dmp syndata.xml WERInternalMetadata.xml - Video Hardware Error.I have also seen a pop-up that says the NVIDIA card has stopped and successfully recovered.

I never get a blue screen, the computer never just restarts, the mouse just seems to stop moving, and this has been happening since I got my computer about 3 months ago. Whenever this happens all I can do is turn the power off and restart. Going through my event logs the only common occurrence is that right before I am turning off my computer I get "Filter Manager - Event ID - 6". This is not recorded as an error, but happens right before "Kernel Power - Event ID - 41" which I believe is when I push the power button to restart.

I've been having problems with my computer. The monitor screen will randomly go black (a small grey window appears in the top-right corner as it tries switching between Analog mode and Digital mode, but the rest of the screen is completely black) and the sound from my speakers will completely cut out. When it happens, the computer won't respond to any keyboard or mouse commands, so I have no choice but to manually hold down the power button to shut it off, wait a few minutes, and restart it.
It seems to happen randomly, regardless of what I'm doing. Sometimes it happens after an hour, while I'm in the middle of playing a game or browsing the internet, sometimes it happens within 5 minutes of turning on the PC, while the system is idle. It started a month ago, and the attacks have occurred more frequently as time goes on. Now, it seems to happen within twenty minutes of start up, whereas before I could go an entire day without it happening.
My specifications are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz)
Motherboard: ASUS M4A88T-M
Graphics Card: ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6850 (EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Green 3 TB (WD30EZRX)
RAM: Kingston 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (KHX1600C9D3P1K2/8G)
Power Supply: Antec 520W Neo Eco 520C
I also have a wireless network card, and a CD/DVD drive, but I don't know their details. If it's important and anyone requests, I can find out. All the components were bought new in February 2011, except for the hard drive and the RAM. Those are brand new, bought two days ago. (I purchased them to stop some Blue Screens of Death that also started occurring a month ago, caused by "faulty memory/hardware failure". The BSODs have stopped since I replaced the hard drive and the RAM, but the random video/audio loss hasn't stopped.)

My wife did something on her PC (she doesn't know exactly for sure what & can't explain it completely me), and now she can't boot up her PC. She says it had something to do with changing the security settings for a program she uses a lot so it wouldn't keep asking her if she wanted to launch it, and that's when it told her to restart the PC, then it wouldn't boot up anymore. When you reboot, the screen eventually goes to a black screen saying "Windows failed to start. A software or hardware error may be the cause" or something to that effect. It offers me the option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally".If I Launch Startup Repair, nothing much happens --- it says it's adding files, then it looks like Windows is about to boot up, then it goes to a black screen for a long time & nothing happens.
If I choose Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots & eventually brings me back to the same screen again.I've tried using rebooting and selecting ESC to get to the boot menu, then installing the Win 7 installation disc & selecting the DVD drive, then I select thelanguage, then I click Repair, but it sits there forever with nothing happening.I also tried an outside boot disc I found on the web & it doesn't launch.

i have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.

My son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?

My computer has a problem with crashing while playing a video in full screen. When it crashes the screen turns black while the speakers give out a buzzing noise. Everything is unresposive the only solution is to turn it off with the power button. It happens in any full screen video online or offline and even visualizations from windows media player and iTunes, but only in full screen. I don't think it's overheating either because sometimes it takes 30 mins to crash and other times it will crash immediately when put in full screen. *I've tried setting it back to factory settings thus reinstalling windows. *All the directx features are working with no reported problem there.* I don't think it's a memory issue in the computer, as my specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: intel core i5 3.20 GHz
Ram: 8 GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
Graphics card memory: 0.5 GB
Any other ideas?
