Windows 7 Freezes After Login, Stops At Welcome Screen?

Aug 29, 2011

I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 on a computer that's been having freezing problems. After I installed my display driver for my video card, I can't get past the welcome screen after I log in.I can boot up properly in safe mode, and when I disable my video card in my device manager, then I can log in fine. I haven't made any hardware changes since I first built the PC and I've tried updating the drivers to a later version. Is there anyone that's had or problem like this before or know of a solution?Specs are as follows:* OS: Windows 7 Pro 32-Bit* CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 925* Video Card: nVidia Geforce GTS 450* Power Supply: Corsair Builder Series CX430* Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11

Laptop Pointer Freezes On Login Screen

Apr 21, 2010

I'm having a problem with this laptop after changing out the ram. It's a Lenovo 3000n100, running Windows 7 32bit. ( I upgraded from Vista.)

It originally came with 1GB ram, I increased it to 2 GB. It shows in the bios as 2 and also in belarc.

After changing out the ram, about every other time I start it up, when it gets to the logon screen, the pointer is frozen. I can log in, and on the desktop it's also frozen, so I have to use the win key and arrows to restart then it starts up normally. Once in a while, when it get to the logon screen, it's just black and then I have to do a hard shut down.

I changed the ram sticks around, made sure they are seated properly and I still have this problem.

Before buying the ram, I ran the crucial advisor and bought [URL] Crucial 2GB Set(2x1GB) 200-Pin PC2 5300 667Mhz SODIMM DDR2 RAM: Electronics IRC, I didn't have this problem with the original ram 512x2. Not even sure if it's a ram problem or not, but I haven't been able to figure out what's going on.

I have also checked the intel drivers and they are up to date.

Random Freezes During Boot Process Before Login (black Screen)

Jul 10, 2012

My systems sometimes freezes during the boot process and all I get is black screen.

This happens when the error occurs:
BIOS shows up normally
Window 7 logo is shown for a brief second
black screen

With boot details enabled, I see that drivers are getting loaded until classpnp.sys. After that the screen goes black as well and the system hangs.

Now when I turn on the machine, I get a text screen asking me whether to start normally or run a recovery attempt. Usually starting normally is all it takes and Windows boots up fine. Once Windows is up and running, it's rock solid. No lockups, no BSODs or whatsoever.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to get debug details of this part of the boot process (os loader phase?).

I already switched the SATA Ports, switched to a different brand and even switched to mSATA. So I'm pretty sure it's not the SSD. Using Windows SATA drivers or Intel RST doesn't make a difference either btw.

Hardware :
Motherboard : Intel DN2800mt, latest BIOS (156)
Graphic Card : GMA 3650 (recent drivers)
CPU : Cedar Trail Atom @ 1,8GHz
Ram : 4 GB - Corsair 1333 MHz
SSD: Crucial M4 64 GB in AHCI mode, latest FW (000f)

For the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stopped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon. I will have to restart and then same thing happens again. I tried Chrome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes. I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up. I have installed and tested with windirstat. Now even the yahoo messenger freezes (not responding) every time and other applications too. I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection. For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla. Today, several time the same thing happened to chrome also and it says the player crashed.

Disk IO Basically Stops And System 'freezes'

Aug 12, 2009

I have been running my machine without any problems for a couple of months, then it started to slow down - or more specifically I would initiate the move of a 10G file from one external (esatabox) to another (same box). Transfer will start at 60M/sec and run for a short time, then all disk IO will stop. Status bar is still 'pulsing' but not moving. After 10-20 minutes it will resume the move but now the transfer rate is 2M/s.

Pull up taskmgr and look at performance shows zero disk IO (it doesn't even show any disks).

Checked RAM

Created a backup image of the OS using the Windows 7 backup, created a recovery disk, booted to recovery disk and restored the image (I didn't change any of my disk settings i.e. raid to ide). Seemed to restore ok, but problem persists. Anyone have any clue??? Or could anyone point me to something in Windows 7 that may help diagnose this problem?

Disk Activity Stops And System Eventually Freezes

Jan 27, 2013

With heavy(?) disk use, my system appears to stop disk activity. Resource Monitor shows nothing under Overview and Disk where there would be e.g. system and explore.exe listed as images before this condition.

I'm trying to copy 100-200GB from one disk to another. After some time, this condition happens but I can still to other things. The network is up, I can e.g. ping my LinkSys, ssh to work. Eventually, things will just freeze. Pulling the power cord is the only way to solve so far.

I did install new HW, a SATA controller, but can't remove it. The disk I'm copying to is 3TB WD Green. I need the new SATA controller to use > 2TB disks. I already know the old (onboard BIOS) SATA controller works, I've copied 500-1000GB overnight in the past. Right now, using smaller sized copies, things behave.

The new controler is a HighPoint Rocket 640L, basic disk step as before (i.e. no RAID). I tried manually updating to the latest Windows 7 64b drivers from HighPoint's site, but system tells me I have the latest.

I have a day or two before I can even RMA the adapter. I'd rather try a few things before ending up back where I am in a week if the next adapter has the same issie.

Graphics Driver Stops Working, Computer Freezes?

It does this about 5 times, before completely freezing (ctrl + alt + del doesn't do anything). I have forced it to shut down and started it up, and it works for about 1 minute. At the time I was using microsoft one note (which I haven't had any problems with before), and google chrome, which I have only recently installed. I tried uninstalling chrome and using IE but it did the same after about only a minute of being switched on.My laptop is about 4 years old, but I've only had problems over the last few days. I'm currenly using safe mode, and I'm not having any crashing/freezing.

System Goes To Black Screen Before Login/welcome Screen After Windows 7 32-bit Upgrade?

Sep 2, 2012

My son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?

I never get a blue screen, the computer never just restarts, the mouse just seems to stop moving, and this has been happening since I got my computer about 3 months ago. Whenever this happens all I can do is turn the power off and restart. Going through my event logs the only common occurrence is that right before I am turning off my computer I get "Filter Manager - Event ID - 6". This is not recorded as an error, but happens right before "Kernel Power - Event ID - 41" which I believe is when I push the power button to restart.
