Dec 7, 2012I recently installed some updates in my Proline notebook, but after installing the 30 percent, it failed to restart, with the screen showing nothing (as if it's off). I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

After a LOT of problems I managed to restore my Laptop to its default configuration. Then, I tried to restore my personal files with the DVDs I made, but when the manager finished, it only showed a folder with all my files in it! And it didn't give me any option to restore these files or something!

Jul 17, 2012I have an old HD that I used to use for backups in a different PC setup, and though I deleted those backups when I moved on to a different HD, the backups were recoverable using Pandora and I believe intact since I never used the drive in question after that time. So specifically, I now have a folder called "Backup Set 2011-02-13 190024" that contains a 84 zipped folders worth 13.1GB that comprise that backup, and I want to restore them in some automatic fashion to see what's actually worth salvaging. (I assume this doesn't have to be done one-folder-at-a-time, drilling down through five layers of branches in the folder-tree, and almost immediately forgetting where I am...) But when I look at "Backup and Restore," I can't bring up this or any target folders - the link "Select another backup to restore files from" produces a blank set of choices, and there doesn't appear to be any way to 'load' a particular folder to restore, as I would have expected.

Computer started doing windows updates, when I turned the laptop on the next day it won't boot up normally or in safe mode. If I click on repair computer it scans and goes through the process but in the end it just takes me back to the same screen. I've tried to restore and I have several points come up in the list but it says beside them enable system protection for this (C Drive).
The only option I have is to put it back to factory settings which I would really like to avoid as I don't want to loose all my files. I have some of them on USB but not all.
Internet Pages Load Slowly Windows 7 Freezes?
Sep 14, 2011I was browsing the internet on my firefox when suddenly the links that i opened up where not loading at all. All it had was a blank white screen. I restarted the firefox and the computer but it was still not working. The internet explorer was acting the same way. I tried several solutions such as clearing my cache, changing the proxy settings but it froze the windows 7 when doing so.
My anti-virus program that i brought (Trend Mirco) had expired 2 or 3 days ago. I'm not sure if i have a anti-virus, i just downloaded avg for free but when i try to scan the computer it freezes again.

Sep 15, 2012I don't know too much about computers and I just got a hand-me-down Dell Precision 320 PC from my dad just last weekend and it just crashed. I got a message saying something crashed and if this was the first time I saw it I just needed to reboot my computer. I proceeded to do so and then I got the mysterious black screen with movable cursor hanging scenario. I booted up the advanced boot menu and went to repair computer to "Last Known Good Configuration" and since then it boots up to passed the windows loading screen to a stock windows 7 screen and it flashes about every seven seconds with the cursor blinking to loading something back to idle. It hangs here until I turn it off. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the situation but there have been a couple of blackouts in my house due to heat that caused my computer to shut off a couple times.Safe mode gets the same resultsSFC found no errorsSystem:Windows 7 Ultimate 32bitIntel Core2 x6800 @ 2.93ghz8GB RamIf there's any other info I can provide without being able to boot my PC, I'd be happy to comply.

I have had this happen before and fixed it with bootrec.exe but I can't seem to get that to work this time. Safe mode has the exact same black screen problem.I have done chkdsk and sfc scannow - Didn't fix it.When I boot into Kaspersky Rescue from a USB drive it mentions that I need to shut down windows properly before continuing. I would like to do this but I can't.I have tried changing the active partition on information in some of these other threads - It didn't seem to work.All disks are healthy according to the DISKPART and Partition Wizard. I have done the HP hardware diagnostic scans and everything comes up fine.

Jul 6, 2012I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that got a virus on it. I tried to fix the virus but was just not able to and every time I turned the computer on it would get an error message and ask if I wanted to start windows normally, once in a while I would get a BSOD and it would reset itself. I don't remember what the error messages were because I kinda ignored the problem for a couple months and finally got around to saving what I needed and trying to do a reset. Everything went fine when I went into Dells Datasafe Restore. After it wiped the drive and re-installed I got past the Dell screen at startup and on to the windows screen then suddenly got a flash of a BSOD then the computer restarted. I went through the startup repair and got the message Failure while setup is in progress. I've been searching for a solution for a few hours now and I haven't found one. I don't have a recovery disk (I was just trying to use the partition) and I don't have a windows 7 cd. Where do I go from here?

Apr 19, 2010Clicking on a large folder in Explorer can cause a slowly-moving green progress bar. In some cases this can take several minutes to complete.
A common cause is thumbnail caching of image and video files, resulting from having properties | customize | "optimize this folder for:" set to pictures, vs documents or General items.
The most likely solution: in Explorer, right click on folder, select properties, customize, under "optimize this folder for:", select either General items, or documents. Set check box "Also apply this template to all subfolders", then click apply.
The slow progress bar is apparently caused by Explorer scanning the folder and all subfolders to pre-render thumbnail images for image and video files. This happens if the "optimize this folder" setting is pictures or videos. This happens when merely clicking on the top-level folder.
If "optimize this folder" is set to documents or General, the thumnails are not rendered until you actually click on the folder or sub-folder containing those.
This was discussed in another thread on this forum, but it was full of speculative remedies, and the actual cause and remedy was not posted until the last thread (and one year after the thread was started): Accessing drives in Windows Explorer takes a long time I'm creating this thread with a more exact title and concise description, to aid in finding the solution based on a symptom search.
While the above is the most likely cause of a slow Explorer progress bar, there are other possible causes. These include clicking on a remote folder on a slow network, general slowdown due to indexing, disk drive or filesystem caching disabled, disk drive retries due to impending hardware failure, corrupted video files or codec, etc.
Cant Load Application Files To Pc
Dec 17, 2012I'am using windows 7 ultimate 64b, google chrome and kaspersky internet security 2012 and when I save an application file, I cant open the file and it is followed by win msg saying ''Windows cannot find (file pathway). Make sure you typed the file name correctly, and then try again''. When I go to downloads in chrome, the 'attempts' are still there and allow me to try and download them again but with the same error msg. I'am sure this must be a security setting in either windows, internet security or the browser itself (least likely in my inexperienced opinion). Also if this helps, it allowed me to download and open a picture file and a video file from a newly saved file destination no problem. changing the file destination doesn't seem to make any differences to saving an application file either.

Dec 13, 2010We are having ongoing problems with Windows 7 and mapped drive latency on our network. Our environment is as follows:Multiple servers running Windows 2008 & 2008 R2, some VMware servers (including our file server). Windows 7 x64 came preloaded on a brand new Lenovo think-pad, 4gb memory. This occurs on 4 different laptops. This problem ALSO occurs in exactly the same way on an HP Compaq x64 desktop running Windows 7 32. All systems are fully patched & up to date on SP's. Running IP 4 & 6 on all servers & Windows 7 machines Connected to GB Cisco switch.We run login scripts via GPOs that map drives (with net use commands) to 3 shares on our file-server, drives G, H and S.A fourth mapped drive to an IBM I-series does NOT experience these issues.
In Windows Explorer, mapped drives may or may not appear with red X's, but when clicked on they hang with a spinner and the green bar at the top of Explorer begins to run. This occurs randomly, but usually not right after boot up. It can take over a minute to complete. Also, in Word, which has references to these drives in file locations, file opening and saves can be very slow as it attempts to access these shares.This issue has delayed our roll out of Windows 7.Its unacceptably slow and cannot be used in a production environment.We have tried every suggestion we can find on the Internet:Turned off auto-tuning, indexing, thumbnails, set auto-disconnect to the max (both 99999 and ffffffff). Server & clients. No luck. Changed properties on the mapped drives to optimize for documents...no change.Changes setting on the network cards to disable flow control, set static link speed & duplex. Network drivers have been updated. Even tried using our wireless network and disabling wired connection...no change.All bios and hardware updates are completed...no change.Turned on and off network discovery..no change.
Disabled SMB2 on servers & clients...no change.Disabled firewalls, and unloaded antivirus (Trend)...no change.Safe boot with networking & clean boot with no services other than Microsoft...no change.

Jul 20, 2009I've just installed the Windows 7 RC on my lab-pc. It's a 2,4GHz Celeron, 1GB DDR-RAM, everything installed on some old 160GB PATA-HDD. Two hi-speed USB Keys are used for ReadyBoost (love that feature).
Everything works like a charm, except the file transfer from my WXP machine.
I mount the SMB share (which is on my WXP) from the Windows 7 machine and start to copy some big files. Transfer speed is ~1MB/sec on 10MBit, ~5MB/sec on 100MBit and ~11MB/sec on 1GBit. When I start file transfer the CPU load pops up to 50% while 10MBit is active, for 100 and 1000MBit it jumps to 100% and stays there until the transfer is over.
Since I read about IRQ issues I tried some NICs. An onboard SiS-900, an RTL8139 based PCI card and an Intel Pro 1000/MT Desktop adapter. I thought that - at last - the Intel NIC should stop my problems as it comes with IRQ moderation and TCP/UDP checksum offload.
None of these 3 NICs solved my problem.
All these NICs run on the driver Windows 7 has found for them. None of the vendors had a special driver for me.
What I tried to do in addition:
- disable Windows 7 firewall
- disable IPv6
- disable QoS
- tried another CAT5e cable
- restart the switch (Netgear GS108)
- hit the whole machine
Note of the above worked.
I just hope you just have an idea left for me. Just ask if I missed out some details.
EXE Files Slow To Load From Networked (Windows 7 X64) Computer
Jan 9, 2012I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in Asharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. It happens with or without no antivirus running.

Safe mode with and without networking also refused to load. We eventually fixed the problem by doing a system restore to the manufacturers settings, but start up has been slower than usual ever since.A few days ago it began to do it again. This time, however, I was able to access safe mode. After restarting several times, I only managed to get my notebook to start up fully after taking out the battery and letting it load up just plugged into the wall. I put the battery back in but I haven't restarted it since in case the problem repeats and the battery removal method doesn't work.

Nov 15, 2009I upgraded my HP m8530f from Vista Premium to 7 Ultimate and have 2 main pain in the butt issues:
When it reboots it will not load the login screen. it loads the windows 7 logo and then sits at a blank screen with the pointer. it'll sit for hours and never load.
I CAN reboot and load the last known good config and I can login, but no matter what I try, every restart results the same.
2nd issue: I cannot get to the internet. I can get to the homegroup, I cannot even login to the router. But I can ping any site, my ISP sees the PC on the net. But no matter the browser I cannot get online. I cannot get it to activate the OS either.
I did learn I have an integrated Realtex POS lan adapter that I blame, realtek says it's driverless hardware. Hp doesn't have W7 support for this PC. my buddy's Pavilion Elite does have driver download support for 7, but of course my mid-range PC does not!
Any thoughts? Suggests? Genius that know the answer??
