EXE Files Slow To Load From Networked (Windows 7 X64) Computer
Jan 9, 2012
I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in Asharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. It happens with or without no antivirus running.

It opens it but it take a long period of time for it to open the sales window. 2 computers are running in Windows 7 and the 3rd is running in xp. How can I speed up the slaves to operate at a faster speed.

Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.

I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and as of this morning whenever I startup my pc I have about a 10-30 second window maybe (sometimes even shorter) that I can actually get programs to open before my pc just seems to get very slow and nothing at all will open. For example things like ctrl+alt+del takes about 15 seconds before it just goes to a black screen and says the process cannot be completed, whenever I pull up the start menu it will freeze and nothing opens from there, and even trying to refresh the desktop or shutting down/restarting crashes it. I have gone into safe mode with networking to get on Chrome and try to find solutions but nothing has worked. I've ran a full system scan with Malwarebytes and the first time it found only one infection and I quarantined and removed it, but the problem still occurs.

My Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine recently stopped being able to communicate with any other machines on the network. It can ping them by name, but can't browse to any shared folders or use any shared services.I do have one networked printer, but access was via http so it seems to work. The big problem is that I have some Windows XP machines that have shared folders and shared printers and I can not access them. Here are the details of my setup.
- Linksys WRT54G router drives the internet (updated to latest firmware)
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine plugged directly into WRT54G ethernet port
- Epson Workforce printer plugged into ethernet port
- 2 Windows XP machines connected via wireless
- 1 Windows 7 32-bit laptop connected via wireless
Since the Epson worked fine I thought may it is a wireless issue or maybe an issue connecting from Windows 7 to Windows XP.I went through hundreds of forum posts about people with issues connecting to XP with no luck (i.e. network discovery is on, file/print sharing is enabled, all machines on the same Workgroup, etc.).All of the various XP machines can see each other, ping each other, and browse each other's shared folders. In fact, all of said machines are capable of browsing the Windows 7 64-bit machine's shared folders, but it can't browse theirs.
From the Windows 7 machine I can ping all of the others by IP or even by hostname, but if I put "\hostname" in the run dialog, it can't make a connection. In the Network & Sharing Center I do see the other Windows 7 32-bit laptop in the network map, but I can't browse to it's shared folders.I can RDP this laptop by connecting to the IP address with remote desktop.I can ping the XP machines by IP or name, but they do not show up at all in the network map and I can't browse to them from the run dialog.A few months ago I could never access these machines by "\hostname" but if I put in "\IP_ADDRESS" it would pop up a username/password box and I could get in.This is now no longer working either.I've tried numerous things and from the firewall/network settings it seems like everything is set up to be able to discover other machines, but it still won't work. Something changed on my Windows 7 machine that has locked it from doing any outgoing connections.

Has anyone noticed a problem with ripped dvd files (ie VIDEO_TS) that are mounted from a networked folder? I get a video error message about missing files and if I press "d" for more info I get the cryptic error:
res://ehres!PlayerDenial.mcml#outofsync
Files needed to display video are not installed or are not
working correctly.
This doesn't happen with dvd files on local disks, only networked folders. I'd like to know if someone has seen this or can reproduce this error. This is on build 7057, but I think it happens on the others as well.

Here is what I'm trying to do, I have 3 computers running Windows 7 (1 hp & 2 ult) and I would like to be able to sit at any one of them and log-in to my Account Name and see my files, desktop, favs. ect.... And have them synced together... i.e. ... If I add a file to my default computer and then logoff and go to another computer on my network and login to my Account, the file would be there too. I hope this makes sense. I do already have them networked, file sharing, streaming.

i have 4 networked computers (all connected through ethernet cables) They used to talk to each other fine. Now one (Call it KPC) is able to access all of the computers but none can access it. Another computer (RPC) says that it does not have permission to access it, even though i have all my file sharing turned on.
It used to ask me for a password and even though i would enter the correct password (the same on all computers) it said "logon failed: wrong username or bad password".
Also I have added KPC to the RPC homegroup using the password and it just doesnt show up on the RPC homegroup page. I really NEED RPC to be able to access KPC's everything (documents, printers etc) the rest arent a big deal at all. What happened and why did it just stop working??

I have two computers both running Win 7, one in the bedroom and one in the living room and Id like to view files from the bedroom computer in the living room. They are connected via TPlink powerline adapters so a wired connection for both
I can access the living room PC from the bedroom PC via control panel/Network no problem
but when I try accessing the bedroom PC from the living room, I get the error message login failure: unknown username or bad password
I have tried the following:
-creating a new user account for the bedroom PC, and logging in using that account and password
-changing the advanced sharing settings in network and sharing centre to match exactly
Also, I can access when I Turn off password protected sharing but I am not sure of the security of having this setting off so I really want password protected sharing on

i have 3 computers - a laptop (vista wireless), a home theater pc (win 7 wireless) and my main computer (win 7 wired) with all my media files.i have a network setup and the laptop and the HTPC can connect to each other when i click their icons in network neighborhood. i can also connect to them from my main computer (QUAD-CORE) but if i try to hit the QUAD-CORE icon on the laptop or the HTPC i get - network path not found. if i type 192.168.1.100 it connects perfectly (i can see all my shared files so i don't think there is a problem with the way i have shared the files) i think my problem is that when i click on the QUAD-CORE icon it is looking for the ip address but something is broken.

Windows 7 on my computer takes a while to load up. Once windows shows up it shows the circle thingy for about 30 seconds before running. Sometimes it does not ever finish loading and I am forced to reboot with the power button. It has done it since day 1 of owning the machine. I am not sure why it takes so long to load up, because it is a fairly high end machine. the machine has an I7 2600K 3.4GHz, with an Nvidia 670 and 32 GB of DDR3 RAM. I do not understand why I would load so slow, once it finishes (if it does) it runs fine. I have scanned it over and over with Norton, Malwarebytes and bitdefender, with no viruses showing

On the Win7 (64-Bit) I notice lately that the desktop icons are slow to display. They start with 'white boxes' and then slowly they fill-in with the correct icon.I tried the following, and now the icons show right away, but then the screen blinks (for lack of a better word) and the icons show as 'white boxes' and then in a second or two they return to the regular (colored) icons. Anything else I can do to make the icons appear as fast as they did orginally and stay that way rather than turning "white" and then changing back to the regular colored icons?
1. Close all folder windows that are currently open.
2. Launch Task Manager using the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key sequence, or by running taskmgr.exe.
3. In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
4. Click the End process button when asked for confirmation.
5. From the File menu of Task Manager, select New Task (Run...)
6. Type CMD.EXE, and click OK
7. In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:
CD /d %userprofile%AppDataLocal
DEL IconCache.db /a
EXIT
8. In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run...)
9. Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK. =====================
After the icons show the first time (when computer is turned on), I notice the MSE icnon in lower right has a red X on top of it and when the X goes away (in a sec or so) the icons turn white and then in a second go back to their ususal color. If I click on the MSE icon (with the red cross on it) the MSE will open and in RED it states "Real Time Protection is Not Turned On." And then in a second or two the Red Cross goes away and the the wording turns Green. I think there might be something wrong with the MSE or it does NOT work well with Win 7 64 Bit. Maybe I should do a System Restore, to remove MSE and get back AVG?

a few days ago my down load speed dropped from 3mb/s to about 30kb/s same with upload. Service provider has done diagnostic and all is well plus the line speed is fine when checked with another PC. Full scan with MS security essentials checks all is well. Have about 120 open ports in netstat which I'm told is fare to many.

Sometimes when I try to open the Computer window (either by clicking the start button and then Computer or hitting Windows key + E) it will take a long time to open (upwards of 90 seconds). It doesn't happen all of the time, but starts happening seemingly at random. I can open other folders, but as soon as I click Computer, it freezes for a bit before working properly.I can get it to stop by rebooting, but it seems to always eventually happen again. I know it's not a hardware problem, as this is happening on both my desktop and laptop.

If I click on All Programs and then on C drive, it'll open up with a blank page and then a green bar starts moving slowly across the top. When it gets to the end, it just sits there.Pictures, Games and Music do the same thing. Games is blank and no green bar. The CPU, according to the meter, is running at about 1 or 2 %. Checking with Task Manager, nothing else is running. The only way to get it to work, is to Log Off and then Log back on. It'll be OK for a while and then does it again.

I have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. My IE version is 8.0.7600.16385. It's been working well until last night. Now suddenly, when I'm trying to go into large websites, everything takes halfway to forever to load. I even restored to any earlier point. Still the same problem. (By the way, I had difficulty restoring. I kept getting error messages. In the end I uninstalled Kaspersky, restored to an earlier point, reinstalled Kaspersky.)

have been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

The other day I was on my laptop computer and it froze. I had to hard shut it down (like I have done in the past) and when I tried to turn it back on, it wouldn't go past the "starting windows" screen. I have pressed F8 and F10 when I turned it back on and tried everything that it gives me the option for. It won't allow me to go into safe mode. It ends up doing the same thing as when I just try turning on the computer normally, doesn't go past the starting windows screen. I have had this computer for 3 years and have never had an issue with it until now. I don't even know if I still have the discs still or not (don't believe I do)

My computer was freezing up after i load up to my desktop .. than it told me my hard drive was no good. The system had me to make back up disks. I got a new hard drive. The new hard drive is the type that allow us to transfer operating sytstem and files to new hard drive from the old one. I tried but im not sure if it hook up right. So now i have two hard drives.. i even switch it up so it boot from the new one and not the old and went back and switch it again back to the old one. This is where I'm at now.. the computer won't load to the startup screen and had me to do recovery but it not taking it. I assume i need a new operating system for the new hard and do a clean install.. but not having the installation cd with the drivers is the reason why im stuck atm. I dont have no problem erasing what there on both hard drive and starting over. The problem atm is not having the installation cd with the drivers.

I am no expert when it comes to computers so please bear with me. My Acer Aspire laptop crashed on me. It uses Windows 7. Start up repair does not work. I have a set of Windows 7 disks, 32 bit and 64 bit. Not too sure which one I should have used so I tried both with the same results. I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again as well as repairing the Windows 7 which is already on my computer with the disks with no luck. When re-installing it gets stuck at 'Setup is starting'. It stays like that for hours. When I try the repair option it gets stuck at 'checking for operating system' or something to that effect, also for hours on end

Yesterday I needed to copy some data stored on a DVD and it took more than ONE hour to transfer the files (11250 files and 151 folders for 625MB) to the hard drive.
I booted on my WinXP partition (so the very same hardware was used) and it took 20 minutes for it to complete the same task.
The data I needed to transfer were full of very small files and although I could hear my DVD player spinning at full speed on WinXP, it was very choppy on Windows 7 as if it was constantly seeking the files on the disc.

So I recently upgraded my motherboard, RAM, and CPU. After doing some quick adjustments in the BIOS, I attempted to load into Windows to make sure everything was correct. Upon the Windows loading up, the logo freezes for a second, a BSOD appears (which I cannot read as it disappears within a fraction of a second) and the computer restarts.I've already gone through a couple of passes using Memtest without any errors, so I think the RAM can be ruled out. I was hoping I could get advice on how to prevent the computer from restarting so I can see the BSOD and further provide information depending on the error.
