Cannot See Homegroup Computer And Connect To Networked Computers
Nov 15, 2011
i have 4 networked computers (all connected through ethernet cables) They used to talk to each other fine. Now one (Call it KPC) is able to access all of the computers but none can access it. Another computer (RPC) says that it does not have permission to access it, even though i have all my file sharing turned on.
It used to ask me for a password and even though i would enter the correct password (the same on all computers) it said "logon failed: wrong username or bad password".
Also I have added KPC to the RPC homegroup using the password and it just doesnt show up on the RPC homegroup page. I really NEED RPC to be able to access KPC's everything (documents, printers etc) the rest arent a big deal at all. What happened and why did it just stop working??

Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.

My Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine recently stopped being able to communicate with any other machines on the network. It can ping them by name, but can't browse to any shared folders or use any shared services.I do have one networked printer, but access was via http so it seems to work. The big problem is that I have some Windows XP machines that have shared folders and shared printers and I can not access them. Here are the details of my setup.
- Linksys WRT54G router drives the internet (updated to latest firmware)
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine plugged directly into WRT54G ethernet port
- Epson Workforce printer plugged into ethernet port
- 2 Windows XP machines connected via wireless
- 1 Windows 7 32-bit laptop connected via wireless
Since the Epson worked fine I thought may it is a wireless issue or maybe an issue connecting from Windows 7 to Windows XP.I went through hundreds of forum posts about people with issues connecting to XP with no luck (i.e. network discovery is on, file/print sharing is enabled, all machines on the same Workgroup, etc.).All of the various XP machines can see each other, ping each other, and browse each other's shared folders. In fact, all of said machines are capable of browsing the Windows 7 64-bit machine's shared folders, but it can't browse theirs.
From the Windows 7 machine I can ping all of the others by IP or even by hostname, but if I put "\hostname" in the run dialog, it can't make a connection. In the Network & Sharing Center I do see the other Windows 7 32-bit laptop in the network map, but I can't browse to it's shared folders.I can RDP this laptop by connecting to the IP address with remote desktop.I can ping the XP machines by IP or name, but they do not show up at all in the network map and I can't browse to them from the run dialog.A few months ago I could never access these machines by "\hostname" but if I put in "\IP_ADDRESS" it would pop up a username/password box and I could get in.This is now no longer working either.I've tried numerous things and from the firewall/network settings it seems like everything is set up to be able to discover other machines, but it still won't work. Something changed on my Windows 7 machine that has locked it from doing any outgoing connections.

I have attempted to create a home group from both machines and when i do create a homegroup the other IS able to see the other but when i attempt to join from either one to the one that has created it always yields an error stating that "window cannot setup homegroup on this computer" The desktop is hardwired to my Dlink router and the laptop is connected wirelessly.

I have a Desktop computer with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
The Laptop can see the desktop, files and printer But the Desktop cannot see the Homegroup. The desktop does not have the option to allow remote desktop connections, I don't know if that is connected to the same issue or not.
When I try to modify the Homegroup on the desktop, I get the error message mentioned above. this computer can't connect to homegroup

I have a 2 computer setup both have successfully joined the homegroup I created. From comp A, I can access everything on comp B but comp B cannot access anything on comp A. I can see what's on comp A but if I try to go there it asks for credentials. Also tied to this (I assume), when I try and access the printer on comp A, the "Install Printer" button literally does nothing (screenshot).
I have no idea where to begin with this problem. The homegroup advanced settings are set up to share files and printers. I've allowed File Sharing in Windows Firewall on both computers. I've completely left the homegroup and made a new one.

Please help-is their a sequence of things I should check on each computer?

I have upgraded my vista home premium to Win 7. I now cannot access the Xp computers on my home network but I can access my other Vista computers ok. I can ping all by ip and name ok. But file access just comes up with error 0x80070035 'the network path was not found'. All the computers can access the Windows 7 computer and read files ok.
All the computers are on the same workgroup, Nothing been changed on any other computer as it all worked before this upgrade! Tried disabling the firewall, set to Home network, no homegroup set. The original vista drive which I 'ghosted' before I upgraded to 7 still works with full access to all networked computers.

After windows recently updated on one of my win7 machines, i can no longer see the other 4 computers on my network. 2 win7 Pro machines & 3 XP, all in same workgroup. I can see the affected win7 machine from all the other computers and can even access its files, the affected machine can connect to the internet as well but i cannot see any of the others. Network discovery is on, but file and print sharing is not and when i click it on and say Save Changes, it does not hold the change; also under: my system settings-system properties-computer name the Network ID button is grayed out so i cannot change my workgroup name even if i wanted to. I am logged on as admin.

I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem as a result of the laptop itself or not but as it is the last thing I've checked...
I have 3 computers: 1 wired desktop(64-bit), 1 wireless desktop(32-bit), and 1 wired laptop(Lenovo T400 w/ 64-bit) each running Windows 7 Professional. The two desktops are able to view one another fine in the Homegroup and exchange files.
The T400 laptop is having some issues. It can see the wireless desktop and transfer files from that machine to itself, but it is not able to even see the wired desktop in the homegroup. Both desktops are able see the laptop but neither is able to get files from it.
Each of the desktops can see all 3 computers in the standard network location, the laptop is only able to see the wireless desktop.
I've run troubleshooter on all three computers, and I've ensured they are all on the 'home network'. I've also made sure the network discovery/file sharing/etc is on in the 'advanced settings' and they are all apart of the same workgroup.
The problems seem focused on the laptop, and both desktops worked right from the get go but the laptop hasn't. Further, I used to have Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) on both the wired desktop and the wired laptop and homegroup feature worked flawlessly at that time...just not with the release.

I have two computers running Windows 7 Ultimate. They both connect via a Router, one wirelessly and one wired. They are both on the same workgroup but I cannot for the life of me get them to network with each other, either via opening up Explorer or by connecting them both to the same homegroup. I can however ping them. I have turned on the options in advanced sharing settings for network discovery and file printer sharing but I just can't get them to see each other!
I did have VMWare installed on one machine but have since installed it. Apart from that, I have no other software I can think of that will interfere.

I just started up a homegroup between two wireless PCs, one laptop, one desktop. Both are joined to the Homegroup and I have turned off every setting I could find relating to password protection on both computers. I can pull off files from my laptop->PC just fine, but it doesn't happen the other way around. (Now on my laptop) I look at the homegroup tab for the desktop, and if I click on a folder (eg Music), nothing happens.
Now when I click on the "Network" tab on Windows Explorer (still on laptop), I can see both PCs on the network. When I click on the icon for my desktop, it asks for a username and password. WHAT??? I hunted down that info, found it in Windows credentials. (still on laptop) I tried entering the username and password that I found from both computers, but no dice. First off, I don't even remember setting a username and password...second, I have password protected sharing turned off on both machines.

I've got 3 computers using Windows 7, my computer acting as the "Home" for a homegroup allowing us to share files, data, etc. Yesterday our modem was replaced and now I am the only one who can see the homegroup and the data contained therein. Troubleshooting wizard is indicating that is is a network problem which leads me to believe that perhaps something to do with our change in modem. How I can get the homegroup to show again?

I have a laptop, HTPC, and a desktop, all connected to my internet wirelessly. All of the systems were connected to the homegroup perfectly last night, but then I started having problem this morning. The HTPC was connected to the homegroup, but unable to detect any of the computers. Same with the rest of them. So I left the homegroup from the HTPC thinking I could just reconnect. Big mistake. After that the only option that was available to me was to "create a new group". After many restarts and settings, I decided to create a new homegroup. I then left the original homegroup from my laptop, so that I could join the new homegroup, but alas, the same thing happens, I could not see the old homegroup from the desktop, or the new homegroup from the HTPC! The only option available to to create another new homegroup! I did the same thing again with my desktop, and now all three machines each on its own homegroup.

Here is what I'm trying to do, I have 3 computers running Windows 7 (1 hp & 2 ult) and I would like to be able to sit at any one of them and log-in to my Account Name and see my files, desktop, favs. ect.... And have them synced together... i.e. ... If I add a file to my default computer and then logoff and go to another computer on my network and login to my Account, the file would be there too. I hope this makes sense. I do already have them networked, file sharing, streaming.

My netbook and main PCs both have windows 7 64 bit. Both have sharing enabled. Both have the exact same setup in networking. Both are set to home. Both have the right password.I have disabled all firewalls.I have synchronized the clocks.I updated windows.I have enabled and disabled ipv6 and attempted ipv4.Machines have had their homegroups disabled and re-enabled.They have been rebooted numerous times.I have had the propper services enabled. The netbook can see and access files on the PC but even though the PC sees the netbook as a media device, it cannot see it as a computer and cannot see it in the homegroup, thus it cannot access any files.

I have two computers both running Win 7, one in the bedroom and one in the living room and Id like to view files from the bedroom computer in the living room. They are connected via TPlink powerline adapters so a wired connection for both
I can access the living room PC from the bedroom PC via control panel/Network no problem
but when I try accessing the bedroom PC from the living room, I get the error message login failure: unknown username or bad password
I have tried the following:
-creating a new user account for the bedroom PC, and logging in using that account and password
-changing the advanced sharing settings in network and sharing centre to match exactly
Also, I can access when I Turn off password protected sharing but I am not sure of the security of having this setting off so I really want password protected sharing on

i have 3 computers - a laptop (vista wireless), a home theater pc (win 7 wireless) and my main computer (win 7 wired) with all my media files.i have a network setup and the laptop and the HTPC can connect to each other when i click their icons in network neighborhood. i can also connect to them from my main computer (QUAD-CORE) but if i try to hit the QUAD-CORE icon on the laptop or the HTPC i get - network path not found. if i type 192.168.1.100 it connects perfectly (i can see all my shared files so i don't think there is a problem with the way i have shared the files) i think my problem is that when i click on the QUAD-CORE icon it is looking for the ip address but something is broken.

I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in Asharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. It happens with or without no antivirus running.

I had my computer at my home, connected to my home network. I moved to a Corporate apartment, which has a different network, and now I can't print to my printer, which I brought with me. I did set the new network as my 'home' network, and folowed instructions, but it does not seem to be working.
THe printer is a C6280 Photosmart, and is wireless enabled, but my new place doesn't have a router to attach to. Basically, I'd just like to connect the printer directly to my computer, since I will be the only one printing to it.

Well yesterday after playing online games and surfing the web, so then i decided to go to bed and my laptop took longer than before so i then clicked cancel and tried refreshing i then shut down my laptop and it seems fine. But now today i turned on my laptop and it seems fine until i login when i log in it shows a black screen with only my cursor in the middle but i can still move my mouse around (this never happened before) then it goes to the desktop screen and my icons and gadgets were starting really slow but they came up in the end but then i look at my wifi conection it says No internet accsess but i looked over to my internet modem the internet was on. So then i opened the other laptop and i can use the internet, so i tried restarting my laptop and it did the black screen thing again and still no internet accsess. So I then switch to Safe mode networking and i can connect to the internet just fine i then went and looked at the Device manager and clicked on System devices and theres a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on Consumer IR Devices.

So everything was fine until today when I woke up. My internet wouldn't work, it was saying that I was connected with internet access but never gave me it. I checked my router settings and it shows all the correct things.
So then, I decided to check my brother's computer which is in the same room and he couldn't connect either. I turned my computer off and somehow, my brother's computer had internet access and could access the internet.
Posting from my brother's PC now. I have attempted everything, restarted the power to everything about 5 times. Our internet has always worked and has until today.

My computer was working fine yesterday, it showed about 6 Networks and I was able to connect to my own network, D-Link fine. Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet. I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.
