Media Player 12 Not Sharing Stream / Homegroup Will Not Die?
Jan 13, 2012Long story short I just want to connect my Windows Media Player/Center to my Xbox 360.I can't enable streaming from the Media Player. It wont show the button or option at all.I have also tried to open homegroup and turning on media sharing and it wont turn on. The button turns grey for a moment then it goes back to saying "Turn on media streaming".From the Windows Media Center I can get some kind of connectivity to the Xbox, but its very brief. Usually when I go to set up the extender it gets to building media library on the "Windows Media Center" then the "Xbox Windows Media Center" gives a failed to connect, retry or cancel.If I take a peek into the network from the explorer the media devices shows Xbox 360 Media Extender and it disappears within 3 seconds also another that says Xbox 360 which stays.I have tried going into services.msc and making sure UPnP, SSDP, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service are enabled. I also disabled Windows Media Player/Center from the windows defaults to try and reinstall it.

Oct 15, 2012I have two Dell laptops, both running Windows 7. I have both set up on a HomeGroup and have enabled media sharing on both as well. Network discovery is turned on for both, file and printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is off. Under WMP, I have Media Streaming on. None of my folders are hidden.
For this discussion, things with Laptop A are fine, but Laptop B is causing me some problems. I have two main issues and fear they may be related: 1. From Laptop B, I can see Laptop A in the homegroup and I can see it in WMP. I can access all of Laptop A's files and play them back with no problem. However, from Laptop A, I can see Laptop B in the Homegroup, but I can not see it in WMP. I can navigate to certain folders in explorer and see the files, but I can not play them, even though I have all sharing functions that I can think of turned on. (I do have McAfee running, but disabled the firewall in case that was the problem. It didn't help)
Also, I have a DLNA compliant device on the network that I can stream music to using the "play to" feature in WMP. From Laptop A I can play to the network speaker just fine. I can not from Laptop B. I should add that I can "see" the device in WMP from Laptop B, but when I queue a track to play, it just hangs up as if it can't communicate any further with the networked speaker.

Oct 29, 2012I wanted to ask if it is possible to set Windows media player to open as the default player inside media center.The reason that I ask this is that I find media center sound is very low quality. I am using it inside windows 7 ultimate X64. I also use Media Browser and have set it to use media player as an external player but it loses some functionality after something is played I have to restart media center and media Browser to play anything again because it will go back to menus but not play anything untill

Nov 28, 2012I have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players.But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Jul 25, 2011I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

Dec 20, 2009I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jul 29, 2011I have a laptop, HTPC, and a desktop, all connected to my internet wirelessly. All of the systems were connected to the homegroup perfectly last night, but then I started having problem this morning. The HTPC was connected to the homegroup, but unable to detect any of the computers. Same with the rest of them. So I left the homegroup from the HTPC thinking I could just reconnect. Big mistake. After that the only option that was available to me was to "create a new group". After many restarts and settings, I decided to create a new homegroup. I then left the original homegroup from my laptop, so that I could join the new homegroup, but alas, the same thing happens, I could not see the old homegroup from the desktop, or the new homegroup from the HTPC! The only option available to to create another new homegroup! I did the same thing again with my desktop, and now all three machines each on its own homegroup.

The Laptop can see the desktop, files and printer But the Desktop cannot see the Homegroup. The desktop does not have the option to allow remote desktop connections, I don't know if that is connected to the same issue or not.

Aug 28, 2012I have a 2 computer setup both have successfully joined the homegroup I created. From comp A, I can access everything on comp B but comp B cannot access anything on comp A. I can see what's on comp A but if I try to go there it asks for credentials. Also tied to this (I assume), when I try and access the printer on comp A, the "Install Printer" button literally does nothing (screenshot).
I have no idea where to begin with this problem. The homegroup advanced settings are set up to share files and printers. I've allowed File Sharing in Windows Firewall on both computers. I've completely left the homegroup and made a new one.

Apr 9, 2012I am having difficulties with my networkshare on Homegroup. With cable connected to my router/modem I have a LaCie2Big NAS and a WDTVLive mediaplayer. Since a few days I no longer see the two devices other than as mediaplayer devices. They are no longer displayed as other devices or computers which I can browse using explorer. Probably an easy fix, but I can't figure out what happened. I have tried several reboots, no change. I am using the ethernet cable on my desktop and wifi on my laptop. Both display the devices the same (useless) way.

Jun 16, 2012I have 2 Windows 7 computers one is a Hp Laptop and another is a Compaq Desktop I have been dealing with this problem for quite awhile and each time i go to try and correct the trouble i get unbelievably frustrated as in the end i never seem to make any progress. I have attempted to create a home group from both machines and when i do create a homegroup the other IS able to see the other but when i attempt to join from either one to the one that has created it always yields an error stating that "window cannot setup homegroup on this computer" The desktop is hardwired to my Dlink router and the laptop is connected wirelessly.

Oct 9, 2011I had my computer at my home, connected to my home network. I moved to a Corporate apartment, which has a different network, and now I can't print to my printer, which I brought with me. I did set the new network as my 'home' network, and folowed instructions, but it does not seem to be working.
THe printer is a C6280 Photosmart, and is wireless enabled, but my new place doesn't have a router to attach to. Basically, I'd just like to connect the printer directly to my computer, since I will be the only one printing to it.

Nov 15, 2011i have 4 networked computers (all connected through ethernet cables) They used to talk to each other fine. Now one (Call it KPC) is able to access all of the computers but none can access it. Another computer (RPC) says that it does not have permission to access it, even though i have all my file sharing turned on.
It used to ask me for a password and even though i would enter the correct password (the same on all computers) it said "logon failed: wrong username or bad password".
Also I have added KPC to the RPC homegroup using the password and it just doesnt show up on the RPC homegroup page. I really NEED RPC to be able to access KPC's everything (documents, printers etc) the rest arent a big deal at all. What happened and why did it just stop working??

According to my oppinion WMP11 was quite better in handling.
Now in WMP11 we have 2 main views, as the Library mode and as the player mode, and some skin modes.
Well in player mode everything was fine, I had some reactions for it but I finaly managed to settle down with it.
After some days of usage WMP became "Ghostly". It lost its background image, and it lost it blue faded corners.
Now my WMP looks like an unseccesefull plastic surgery.
Watch by yourselves.
I thought that it would dissapear, but later I found out that it is permanent.
Anyone faced this? Anyone knows how to face this?
There also was an option to RIP CD when I had no CD in my drive. But after some days it was gone.
I hope they make WMP better in handling.
Sound Is Low In Media Player
Aug 5, 2012For some reason (I think this happened with the installation of the latest version), all my movies play very low. I play them in VLC, and my ears are about to blow off lol. Any ideas before I roll back to the prior version to see.
