Windows 7 PC Continuously Booting To Repair Mode (0x80070002)

Nov 17, 2012

My pc, which is running Windows 7, is continuously booting to repair mode and 9 times out of 10 just boots to a black screen with mouse cursor at which point I have no option but to do an illegal shutdown. I have tried to run a system restore but an error message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x80070002)' keeps popping up. On the occasion it gets through to the desktop it says that it was successful. Next time I shut down and go to reboot I have the same problems. Also when I go to the internet the homepage has defaulted [URL] which looks similar to google but without the banner.

I dont think this is malware but possibly a critical windows update that has corrupted. If I get to desktop and then shutdown there are 11 updates that are downloading but on reboot the you can see that the updates are loading properly. The only thing I have changed recently is I have updated the printer drivers. For no reason, all of a sudden the other day the printer stopped working and once I updated drivers it was fine. This pc has worked fine for months until the latest set of updates came through. On further reading it looks like searchnu is malware. Could updating a driver really have installed this.

Windows 7 Won't Repair Or Start - Error# 0x80070002

Jul 12, 2012

Last night before I went to bed there was a Windows update, and this morning when I turned the pc on, it just went to this screen saying that something was wrong and i needed to repair. I clicked the repair box, but it didn't wanna do that. So I went into the system recovery tool to go back to (the only restore point) which is yesterday, but when I try and do that, it says "Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070002)

I don't know alot about computers, and I'm currently writing this on my laptop, since I can't enter my computer in any way

HP Pavilion Notebook Reboots Continuously Except In Safe Mode

Feb 8, 2013

It will only stay booted in Safe Mode. When I start the computer, it boots up, stays booted for a few minutes, then the screen goes black and it reboots. This keeps happening unless it is booted in Safe Mode. Purchased with Vista; I clean installed Windows 7 Home Premium (I know it's legit, bought it for her myself) when Windows 7 first came out.

When I turned it on, it rebooted so I started it in Safe mode and have tried/found the following problems: It had 4 adware programs and one trojan horse; removed those with Malwarebytes. Rescanned with Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials, came out clean - Device manager showed two problems - bad drivers for co-processor and bad drivers for Graphics card. Installed those drivers and the Device Manager did not show anything wrong. Problem keeps happening.

Opened BIOS and ran both Hard Drive and Memory Diagnostics; no problems found, Did not make any BIOS changes (I have little experience with BIOS) - Ran diagnostics with Windows 7 disk; including Repair, Memory Diagnostics; no problems found - Graphics card is NVIDIA GeFroce 7150M/nforce 630M; reinstalled drivers, didn't work anything - When the screen saver goes on, there is an error message. "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with Direct 3D".

This is an old computer, well out of warranty. Do I still possibly have an embedded virus? What removal tool should I get? Is it worth replacing the graphics card - if that's possible on an old laptop? Should I try a clean install of Windows 7?

System Repair Disk Not Booting Into Repair Options

Created it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive, so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.

Windows 7 Stopped Booting - Can't Repair

Sep 26, 2009

I searched the threads for an existing post and I couldn't find one that matched my problem. Sorry if a solution has already been posted somewhere.

I have a new Acer 1410 w/ 4GB of DDR2 memory and a 1.6 CULV processor. It came with Vista Home Premium installed, but I downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate from my technet subscription. Because I don't have an optical drive I had to install from a USB stick. I did this without any problems at all.

Windows 7 has been booting fine and running great for about a week now. I haven't recenly loaded any new software or drivers. Yesterday I shut down my laptop normally; when I tried to reboot an hour later I was shown the "loading files" screen and was then taken to the Windows Startup Repair option. Windows spent an hour trying to repair whatever was wrong with my startup and I was finally given an error message that it couldn't make any repairs.

I tried going to the DOS prompt and fixing the boot manager and boot file; interestingly all this did was suddenly give me the option to boot Windows 7 or Windows Vista (!!!). I still get the Windows Startup Repair when I try booting Windows 7. If I try to boot Vista (I was curious) it takes me all the way to the login screen but then tells me I have files missing if I try to login, which is fine - I wasn't trying to set up a dual boot anyways.

Here's the part that's really got me stumped: If I try booting my laptop into install (using the bootable USB stick I created to setup Windows 7 on my laptop) I have the option to repair my computer. When I choose this option it of course takes me to the advanced repair options where I can choose Windows Startup Repair; it runs the repair and tells me it doesn't find any problems with my computer and to go ahead and start my computer normally. Of course, when I reboot and remove the USB stick my computer doesn't boot normally; I'm taken back to the "loading files" screen and then to Windows Startup Repair where I'm told that Windows can't repair my startup.

BSOD Booting Into Full Mode, Safe Mode Works Stop Error 0x0000003b

Feb 8, 2012

I have been getting BSOD errors whenever booting into regular mode. Safe mode is fine (I have tweaked the registry so I have sound in safe mode) My system specs are in my profile, but used Winaudit for full specs. The winaudit report in formatted text is too big for an attachment. I have 2 attachments to this post, including zipped up minidumps. Could my registry tweak for sound have something to do with this? Perfmon /report was run, but it says:

An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified.

Windows 7 Booting Directly Into System Repair

Oct 30, 2012

I have a computer where it keeps booting into the "System Repair" menu. It hasn't done this before.

Recently had lightning struck a transformer. Phones all rang and tv went bizzare! Lucky we had a surge protector.

Well...the computer wasn't doing this before. It use to boot fine but after the transformer problem it starts to boot. Then goes into a screen where it says "Launch System Repair" and "Start windows normally". Even if I select start windows normally it would still go into the system repair menu. I ran PC Check and my hardware all passed. My hard drive passed the SMART self extended test too.

Right now I'm booting off Hirens 15.1 into Mini XP.

Windows 7 Not Booting From SSD, Install Not Listed On Repair Disk?

Aug 27, 2012

Randomly, my computer is no longer able to boot from my OCZ Agility 3 SSD. By randomly, I mean it was working just fine this morning, but no longer. I can't remember if I changed or updated anything.

Well I then went and inserted the Windows 7 repair disk. A list pops up saying to select my OS, but nothing is listed. I selected load drivers, and I'm able to navigate to the ssd successfully and view all of the files. I even plugged it in to the computer I am using now and was able to back up the more important documents in case I will need to do a reinstall. (I would rather not though). The repair utility doesn't fix the problem, and I navigated this forum and many others trying to find similar problems to mine.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965
Galaxy GeForce GTX 460
16 GBs Corsair RAM

I do have two other hard drives on the system that I use for general programs and another for raw video storage. They are disconnected now, so I don't see how they would affect the problem.

Tried Booting In Low-resolution Mode And Safe Mode?

May 6, 2009

I have installed the RC build of Windows 7 as a second OS on the machine.I am finding it incredibly difficult to solve the display driver issue that I have. Currently in Device Manager my display adapter is listed as:Standard VGA Graphics AdapterI believe that, since this is occuring, any ATI graphics drivers that I try to install aren't recognising the x700 as my graphics card and so are failing to update any drivers. At the moment I'm stuck with the standard Windows display drivers which limit the resolution of the screen and disable graphics acceleration etc..If anyone has an idea of how to soI wondered whether it would have anything to do with updating chipset drivers etc...but since I've never had to do that before (and since I am still using XP on the laptop) I didn't want to start messing things up.

edit: I should add that, on my first install of Windows 7 I used Windows Update to install an 'ATI Technologies Inc. driver update for ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700' - once installed, after rebooting the screen was completely black and there was nothing I could do to get the picture back. I tried booting in low-resolution mode and safe mode but neither helped. I wondered whether it was because I had the screen set to the highest resolution possible before installing and rebooting the drivers.

When I tried to insert the installation disc that came with my computer, it's not recognized and nothing happens (during boot from DVD-RW).*Note - Just today when I tried to do a system restore, it said that I had no previous restore points, but I just restored a week ago, so that might add some info.

Windows 7 Stops Booting In UEFI Mode After Adding Another Hard Drive?

Aug 17, 2012

This week, I encountered the following strange problem for which I haven't found a final solution so far, though I have found some bandaids. But having a complete solution -or at least a reason why this problem occurs- would be great:I have a working installation of Windows 7 Professional x64 in UEFI mode. The main disk, SSD #1, contains the following partitions (using GPT): ESP, MSR, system, data. An additional disk, HD #2, with a single data partition (using MBR) is also attached to the system. With this setup, everything works fine. Now, after adding another disk, HD #3, to the system -my old system disk (bootable, using MBR, one active primary partition and an extend partition with three logical disks)- Windows will no longer boots completely: The boot process begins, the Windows logo is shown. Then, a message is shown in text mode "Windows is loading files" with a loading bar. After a while the boot process stops and I am dropped into the EFI shell. After removing the offending HD #3, Windows boots normally again.

I tried removing HD #2 and only attaching HD #3 together with SSD #1, but this yielded the same problem. Using SSD #1 by itself works fine though. Booting from a Linux live-cd works without problems. All disks and partitions are found and can be mounted. There, I erased the disk signature from the offending HD #3 and now Windows was able to boot and also found all disks and partitions correctly. But after a reboot the same problem reappeared

Windows 7 Safe Mode Boot Redirecting To Startup Repair

Dec 7, 2012

Earlier today I tripped over a headphone cord and it flung my computer off my desk. I have an HP omni PC. It's the kind that had the computer and the monitor built together. I picked it back up off the floor. The power cord came out on impact. I set everything back up and was relived to hear it turn on. I selected start windows normally (win 7 64 bit) and it sat at starting windows forever. I eventually manually shutdown the computer. I powered back on and I got an option to start windows normally or use startup repair.

I thought it would be a good idea to go into startup repair. It just sat at the light blue screen with the large white mouse sitting there. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared on screen. I turned off the computer again and am just leaving it there for now. I am worried that the hard drive may have been disconnected from the fall and that's why windows won't start. Or maybe the hard drive was damaged. I tried doing a safe mode boot but it redirected me to startup repair.

System Not Booting After Being Put In Sleep Mode?

Feb 12, 2013

I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a system using an ASUS P5Q Pro motherboard.henever I'm away from the computer for an extended time, I always go to Start and put it in sleep mode. I've never had a problem with it waking back up and resuming until today. I had to leave the house for a while, so placed it in Sleep mode, but then realized I'd forgotten to do something, so before it actually went into sleep mode and shut down, I started moving the mouse to stop it. Nothing happened and I eventually heard the usual pop of the speakers indicating it had shut down into sleep mode. The monitor was blank. I kept moving the mouse, but instead of waking up and going back into Windows, I heard the same beep as heard when rebooting, and the Cmos stuff appeared on the screen as if booting, but then stopped and I saw "Press F2 to load defaults and continue" ....which I did. It started to do something then stopped with no HD activity and nothing on the screen. Nothing.

No activity. I then shut it down using the button on the front of the case and let it sit for a couple minutes. Pressed the On button and heard some activity with the green light and red activity light lighting. Sounded like a normal boot with the beep, speakers popped on, and it looked like something was going to appear on the screen, but....nothing. I could see the monitor had been activated....just nothing displayed. All activity stopped within a few seconds with only the green light still on. The internal fans were running, but nothing happening. Again, I shut it down using the power button, and shut the power supply off as well. I let let it sit and tried again.....same thing. It starts to do something, then quits with just the green light on and the internal fans running. It simply will not boot...and until this episode has been running great.

It seems to have something to do with pressing F2 and loading the bios defaults. I'm wondering if it may be locked in sleep mode. I contacted the guy who builds my systems and is unfortunately out of town and I'm in the middle of a magazine layout. We tried everything, but it simply won't go past that one point. It's not even POSTing. He suggested removing the motherboard battery in order to reset the bios and if it happens to be locked in sleep mode, removing and replacing the battery will delete any sleep mode settings. After reading about similar issues, I removed the motherboard battery and changed the jumper for 10 seconds to reset the bios and finally was able to get into the bios setup.

Safe Mode Won't Run - Computer Just Keeps Booting

Nov 19, 2009

I have recently run into some issues on my machine that runs Windows 7. I can't run Windows Media Player; it just says the file name and then "Server Execution Failed".

I was advised to go into safe mode and type a command into cmd. However, safe mode would not work. At first I thought it was an F8 problem, so I was advised to go into msconfig > boot and change the system to boot into safe mode. I did that to find that safe mode gets into the driver loading screen and stops at windowssystem32driversClassPnP.sys and seems to load.

It shows the cursor, but then disappears and my computer reboots. However, since my computer is set to load into safe mode, it constantly tries to log into safe mode, which doesn't seem to work, so it just restarts, tries to go into safe mode, but can't, so it restarts again, going through the process again and again.

I have tried pressing "Delete" key at the beginning of boot up, but it does not show any thing else I can boot from. When I do get the F8 thing working, I select "Boot Windows Normally" but it just goes straight to the bootup of safemode.

I have an Acer Aspire M3800 that only has the factory restore discs that Acer eRecovery Management has asked me to make when I first bought my computer. I obtained Windows 7 through the "free upgrade" program Acer is running.
