View 2 RepliesI'm trying to restore my Windows 7 64bit machine to its factory settings at the moment, and I've tried the following but they've all failed.1.) Boot up and hit F8, select Repair computer, but then it just boots Windows normally.2.) Create System Repair Disc, and from BIOS boot-up, choose boot from DVD-RW, but when it does that and loads Windows files, Error 0xc000000d and winload.exe missing comes up.3.) When I tried to insert the installation disc that came with my computer, it's not recognized and nothing happens (during boot from DVD-RW).*Note - Just today when I tried to do a system restore, it said that I had no previous restore points, but I just restored a week ago, so that might add some info.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCreated it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive, so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.
Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?
When I try to boot my windows 7, it fails and a blue screen appears, stating that the error message "Stop: 0xed". I try to repair windows, but it fails. So, I reinstall my windows 7. And it works fine in several days, but the blue screen occurs again. I have encountered this situation several times. Reinstall, blue screen, reinstall.I found that before the blue screen occurs, my computer shut down normally.

I have a new Acer 1410 w/ 4GB of DDR2 memory and a 1.6 CULV processor. It came with Vista Home Premium installed, but I downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate from my technet subscription. Because I don't have an optical drive I had to install from a USB stick. I did this without any problems at all.
Windows 7 has been booting fine and running great for about a week now. I haven't recenly loaded any new software or drivers. Yesterday I shut down my laptop normally; when I tried to reboot an hour later I was shown the "loading files" screen and was then taken to the Windows Startup Repair option. Windows spent an hour trying to repair whatever was wrong with my startup and I was finally given an error message that it couldn't make any repairs.
I tried going to the DOS prompt and fixing the boot manager and boot file; interestingly all this did was suddenly give me the option to boot Windows 7 or Windows Vista (!!!). I still get the Windows Startup Repair when I try booting Windows 7. If I try to boot Vista (I was curious) it takes me all the way to the login screen but then tells me I have files missing if I try to login, which is fine - I wasn't trying to set up a dual boot anyways.
Here's the part that's really got me stumped: If I try booting my laptop into install (using the bootable USB stick I created to setup Windows 7 on my laptop) I have the option to repair my computer. When I choose this option it of course takes me to the advanced repair options where I can choose Windows Startup Repair; it runs the repair and tells me it doesn't find any problems with my computer and to go ahead and start my computer normally. Of course, when I reboot and remove the USB stick my computer doesn't boot normally; I'm taken back to the "loading files" screen and then to Windows Startup Repair where I'm told that Windows can't repair my startup.
I have a computer where it keeps booting into the "System Repair" menu. It hasn't done this before.
Recently had lightning struck a transformer. Phones all rang and tv went bizzare! Lucky we had a surge protector.
Well...the computer wasn't doing this before. It use to boot fine but after the transformer problem it starts to boot. Then goes into a screen where it says "Launch System Repair" and "Start windows normally". Even if I select start windows normally it would still go into the system repair menu. I ran PC Check and my hardware all passed. My hard drive passed the SMART self extended test too.
Right now I'm booting off Hirens 15.1 into Mini XP.
I was playing Hitman Absolution all day, ended up falling asleep with my laptop on.it ran out of battery and when I woke up, it was drained of all power, as per usual. However when I tried to start it up, it went into startup repair and then said it couldn't start windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy pc, which is running Windows 7, is continuously booting to repair mode and 9 times out of 10 just boots to a black screen with mouse cursor at which point I have no option but to do an illegal shutdown. I have tried to run a system restore but an error message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x80070002)' keeps popping up. On the occasion it gets through to the desktop it says that it was successful. Next time I shut down and go to reboot I have the same problems. Also when I go to the internet the homepage has defaulted [URL] which looks similar to google but without the banner.
I dont think this is malware but possibly a critical windows update that has corrupted. If I get to desktop and then shutdown there are 11 updates that are downloading but on reboot the you can see that the updates are loading properly. The only thing I have changed recently is I have updated the printer drivers. For no reason, all of a sudden the other day the printer stopped working and once I updated drivers it was fine. This pc has worked fine for months until the latest set of updates came through. On further reading it looks like searchnu is malware. Could updating a driver really have installed this.
Booting with the 32bit dvd does not bring up the Repair service but goes onto Starting Windows screen from the dvd itself. Then PC lockup. Every time. How to stop DVD at booting to bring up System Repair service?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRandomly, my computer is no longer able to boot from my OCZ Agility 3 SSD. By randomly, I mean it was working just fine this morning, but no longer. I can't remember if I changed or updated anything.
Well I then went and inserted the Windows 7 repair disk. A list pops up saying to select my OS, but nothing is listed. I selected load drivers, and I'm able to navigate to the ssd successfully and view all of the files. I even plugged it in to the computer I am using now and was able to back up the more important documents in case I will need to do a reinstall. (I would rather not though). The repair utility doesn't fix the problem, and I navigated this forum and many others trying to find similar problems to mine.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965
Galaxy GeForce GTX 460
16 GBs Corsair RAM
I do have two other hard drives on the system that I use for general programs and another for raw video storage. They are disconnected now, so I don't see how they would affect the problem.
I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

View 5 Replies View Relatedi recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. What is wrong with my computer? I also ran a system repair thing from the windows 7 disk, and it came up with this error: System File Integrity Check and Repair Error Code 0X490

AMD Anthlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
2 Hitachi HDT725032VLA SCSI 320 gb hard drives
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS Graphics Card

Per microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.

Okay so i have a Dell infinion 15r-n5110 laptop. a couple days ago i dual booted up with fedora 17. i self partition the 1TB hd. i left the partition for windows 7 unscathed. ever since then windows 7 has not been able to ping my home broadband connection. i have personaly changed the DNS server to serveral addresses i have found on dozens of other forums but nothing helps me. i cant access a router to easy but i did at work finally today and even with the cable plugged in it will not ping in windows 7. however both wifi card and the wired connection work just fine in fedora. i am thinking its something to do with the boot processes not initalizing. i have downloaded and reinstalled the drivers off the intel website for the wifi netword device (Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1030) and it still will not let me ping, i even went as so far as to turn off my firewall thinking it was a security issue and tryed to ping. still no luck. im hoping i have provided enough details and trial and errors for someone out there to give me something useful.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a dual boot with GRUB2, Arch Linux + Windows 7 Pro x64.Always used it with no problems, and now the Windows loader can't work.I only managed to read the status value, 0xC0000225, and something like "boot manager generic failure", "a required device is inaccessible".I tried using the repair function from my full retail dvd, but it didn't work as well. I think it's because it acted on the windows partition, while the windows boot is stored in another partition of about 100mb, wich was created automatically during the dvd installation. So I guess the solution would be giving to the repair function the right drivers to let it "see" the boot partition, but how?

OK after a few boots and trying different methods I can clearly now see an issue that was not present in XP or Vista.
I have two machines linked using a basic KVM. What happens is that if I am not monitoring the bootup of a machine then the resolution at boot up changes.
On one machine I have two GPU and run four monitors. If I boot this machine while switched over to the other machine then all the icons from the monitor that I use to view the other machine are moved to my main monitor in the set. If I decide to boot the second machine, which only uses the one monitor, while looking at the other machine then when I switch over the resolution has been reduced to the windows setup default.
I have booted both machines and monitored them doing so and all is fine. But when I am not monitoring them boot then I have this issue with the monitor not being recognised, even though XP and Vista was able to do so at boot time.
Does anyone have any ideas on how the monitor configuration can be saves and read during boot if the monitors are not currently active on the booting machine?
Recently, I was messing around with my HDD's partitions in GParted. I resized my Windows 7 partition and made a new NTFS for Windows XP, and a new ext2 for Puppy Linux. I installed the GRUB Bootloader and all my partitions booted fine off of it except for Windows 7. I later found out this has something to do with the Master Boot Record and that I should install GRUB and then install Windows 7.
I was okay with this for a while, but Windows XP couldnt boot many applications from the Windows 7 partition because I have it's x64. I eventually realized that I hadn't made my Windows XP partition large enough (only 3 gig) for anything I wanted to do with it. After a few days, I just deleted the Windows XP and Puppy Linux partitions and was back to having just my Windows 7 partition. I was hoping everything would be magically better, but when I restarted my computer, the BIOS told me a "disk read error" had occurred and "press any key to restart".
I put in a Puppy Linux Live CD and opened up GParted again. GParted showed me that my HDD was now just one big block of Unallocated space. Then I looked in the lower-left corner of the screen and saw that I still had 4 partitions (sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4). sda1 is now my Windows 7 partition, sda2 is now my Windows XP partition, and for some reason sda3 and sda4 are both HP Recovery partitions.
I tried everything I could think of to save myself. I popped in the Windows 7 Upgrade Disk (I had been running Vista before) and tried the Recovery tools included with it, but the Recovery didn't recognize any partitions on my HDD at all. I ran a Command Prompt and tried all the options in bootrec fixmbr, but two of them didnt work and the other two replied "Element not found". Then I tried sfc /scannow, but that told me I had to be running Windows. I booted back into Puppy, ran GParted, and tried to make a new partition, but GParted told me that doing so would erase ALL data on the HDD. There's probably some more options I tried, but I can't remember them right now.
Can anyone help me out? I feel like I'm close to just backing up my personal files, wiping the HDD, and starting over. Only problem is I don't have anywhere to backup 150 gigs.
I get 3 error windows that pop up whenever I boot, or log in to windows. Here is the picture: [URL]. I ran multiple deep cleans using spyboy SD, Malware Antibytes, Nod32, and AdAware. None of them fixed these problems. I also googled the missing .dll's and found no results... literally.
