Webcam Not Detected After Sleep, Shutdown, Or Restart

Oct 30, 2010

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate edition. I got a Logitech Quickcam pro 9000, I have had it for a while and always had this problem. So the problem is whenever my PC is shut down, restarted, or wakes from sleep my webcam is either not detected, or is detected as a USB 1.1 device, instead of USB 2.0. In order for it to be detected as USB 2.0, or even detected at all, I have to unplugg it and plug it back in. I have all the current software and drivers for my motherboard, windows, and my webcam, in fact I just rechecked yesterday. So, my motherboard is an Nvidia 780i sli. I have looked in the Bios and USB 2.0 is definately enabled. Besides I know it working cause none of my other devices have this issue, plus like I said if I unplugg then plug the webcam back in, it is once again detected as a USB 2.0 device. I have tried all my USB plugs on my PC, and same result. So maybe a bios update? I have the P06 and noticed there is a P10 bios version now. Also when I go into device manager and click show devices by connection, I do not see a USB 2.0 catagory anywhere. Shouldn't USB 2.0 devices be in the USB 2.0 subcatagory? Or is it listed as something different cause of my MB, or Windows 7?

So I read some internet stuff and "Reinstalled Windows 7" and seem to still have the issues.

My Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]

HP Notebook Restart Instead Of Shutdown?

My wife's daughter has an HP Pavilion dm4-2070 notebook with Windows 7 Professional. It had been working properly, but for the past week it will not shut down when you select Shut down from the Start menu; instead it restarts. And it will shut down if you press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.I see a lot of posts on other forums with similar problems, but few solutions that seem to work. I have tried many of the suggestions (checking the shutdown and power settings, ensuring the network adapters can't wake up the computer, running SFC, updating the BIOS to the

Can't Shutdown Script To Run On Restart

May 23, 2011

I've got my system configured via gpedit so that it runs a custom batch script when it shuts down. The script can take about a minute to complete because it is telling some external hardware to run through its power down procedure. However when I tell the system to _reboot_ the script still runs and then when the system starts back up it has to run the startup script to power the hardware back up again.

Therefore I wondered if there is a way to tell Windows not to run the script if the action is reboot, not shutdown, or can I get access to the action via some parameters that can be passed to my script?

Annoying intemittent fault whereby the monitor is incorrectly detected as a generic model instead of an LG L192WS and the screen resolution changes to a lower setting which loses a large percentage of the desktop. Crash On Shutdown, Restart And (suspected) Hibernate?

Dec 6, 2011

My computer crashes on shutdown, restart and I suspect hibernate (I think that is what causes them while it sits idle). It was more broken yesterday than it is now, as I have seemingly solved some of the problems. I have included some history below, just in case it's useful.I got back from a trip (4 month exchange) and installed 26 windows updates. only KB2607576 failed, then it worked when windows tried again. When I opened Windows after that, my NIC card and several USB drivers weren't working (code 10 I think... certain .dlls didn't load). I had to disable/reenable each device/usb one in order to get them working. Occasionally the system would hang while I did this, usually on the last USB - forcing a manual power off.

I eventually rolled back to a restore solved before I left for my exchange and; updated my BIOS, chipset and USB to the latest from the manu's site. I figure windows installed the new USB 3.0 drivers (Renases USB 3.0 Host Controller/Root Hub) without any regard to my chipset/bios version and this somehow caused the problem - though I have no evidence and little experience in this area.Windows was also telling me Skype wasn't working, though it appeared to be working fine (it gave mo the fix a problem with... dialogue). I have re-installed Skype since. Now everything seems to be working (NIC, USB, etc.), except for the crashes. When it crashes, I see a BSOD. A BSOD was happening earlier while the NIC/USB were acting up also, but there appear to be no logs for those. These are in fact the only logs I have, and this has happened several times.

Unexpected Shutdown And Then Restart, Upon Mouse Scrolling

Sep 19, 2012

I have looked in the event logs but the only thing it tells me there is that there was an unexpected shutdown. The same in that reliability place.

how I would diagnose it? I cannot replicate it at will, as it only happens occasionally when scrolling, at other times scrolling is fine and does not produce this result. The system is Windows 7 enterprise 64bit, the mouse is Microsoft bluetrack technology

Windows 7 Always Freezes On Restart But Starts Up Fine After Shutdown?

Jan 4, 2011

I just built a new system today, and I have been running into some significant issues whenever I try to reboot. Basically, the system hangs up on the Starting Windows screen at the exact same instance whenever I reboot. This has been happening since I installed Windows 7 64-bit edition. After I booted and installed off of the installation DVD, it froze up on the first restart. I then tried to install Windows again. That worked, but it then again froze on the first reboot. I then had to manually shut down the pc and start it up again. Fortunately, it picked up where I left off and finished the Windows 7 install. After I installed Windows 7, I have had no problems whatsoever expect for when I restart, as the system freezes at the point specified on the image above. However, if I shut down my computer and then start it up, everything loads fine.

Here are my specs:

AMD Phenom II Black Edition dual core 3.2 ghz CPU (all four cores unlocked, overclocked at 3.8 ghz)
HIS Radeon HD 4670 GPU
BIOSTAR T A870+ mobo
Seagate Barracuda SATA 7,200 RPM 1TB HD

Always Goes Into Sleep Mode At Shutdown?

Jan 30, 2011

I restored my laptop to factory settings a few days ago using the built in Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. This isn't the first time I've done this but something happened. Now, whenever I shut down the computer using Start > Shut Down button (on the start menu) it goes into sleep mode. After the screen goes black (powers down) the actual on/off power button on the laptop continuously blinks on and off. It never used to do that before. Prior to this restore whenever I clicked Start > Shut Down button the screen would go black, everything would power down, and the laptop power button never blinked. Here's what I've checked so far:

1. The Shut Down button does say Shut Down. I right clicked the Start button > Properties > Power button action: and selected between Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, Shut down. The name of the button changes to whatever I select and every other option works except for Shut Down.

2. I disabled Hibernate from an elevated command prompt by typing: powercfg -h off

3. I checked Advanced Power Options and the default action for the Start menu Shut down button was showing Shut down. I opened the settings tree and selected Power Buttons and Lid > Power button action (which refers to the Start menu shut down button, not the laptop on/off power button) > Setting > and toggled through the various settings finally selecting Shut down and OKing my way back out of this dialog box. Still no joy. Whenever I click Start > Shut down button it still goes into sleep/hibernation and the laptop on/off power button blinks.

4. I checked system settings through Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. This opens a dialog box that allows you to select what happens when the Start > Shut down button is clicked when the laptop is on battery power or plugged in. Again, these options were set to shut down but I toggled though the options, re-selected shut down, saved changes, OKed my way back out. Didn't help.

5. I checked the registry here: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced and verified the Start_PowerButtonAction hexadecimal value data is 2 (Switch User = 100, Log Off = 1, Lock = 200, Restart = 4, Sleep = 10, Hibernate = 40.)

6. I checked Device Manager and all devices are functioning correctly. For those devices with a "Power Managment" tab and the option to "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" I configured the devices both ways (option checked and option UN-checked.) Made no difference, laptop still shut down in sleep mode.

7. I reset BIOS to default settings.

8. All Windows updates are installed and all drivers are current.

9. I also went to Group Policy Editor (gpedit) and changed the start menu power button by making Shut Down the default option with no way to change it to anything else (user configuration > administrative template > start menu and taskbar > select: enabled > select: shut down.)

10. I've done a clean boot using msconfig. I disabled half the services, shut down the laptop, it went into sleep mode. I enabled those services and disabled the second half. Still went into sleep mode on shut down.

11. Several diagnostic tests show 100% pass with no hardware issues.

12. My last effot was to do a format/clean install (not a factory restore.) Laptop still goes into sleep mode at shut down.

Realtek Ethernet Controller Not Detected - Deep Sleep Error

Aug 4, 2010

I did a fresh Windows 7 64 bit installation and everything was going fine (besides the BSOD problems about the graphics card which I fixed by renaming nvlddmkm.sys which was the cause of the BSOD) until I tried installing the Ethernet drivers.

Specs:
Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 6000+ CPU
4GB 800 DDR2 Memory
585 Watt Power supply
XFX 8800 GTS GPU
2 Seagate Hard drives : 250 GB & 160GB

Windows doesn't even detect the adapter even though its onboard. I've tried installing the drivers from the original dvd (and in compatible and as administrator) with no luck. I also tried downloading the latest lan drivers from [URL] but it still didn't work. I got a deep sleep error or something. (Which I couldn't resolve cause there's nothing in network connections, not even the 1394 connection which is also turned on in the bios)

No it does not show in device manager under Network adapters. Actually there isn't even a network adapter subcategory unless I click show hidden devices(which has multiple devices then but no network controller). The only driver with a question mark is the graphics card driver which I will try to install after I get the Ethernet adapter working. Microsoft did say its 64 bit compatible [URL] so I don't know what to do. I did check the settings in the bios to see if everything with network was enabled and whatnot.. I also tried resetting everything in the bios to default settings with no luck.

Out of desperation tried adding the device manually through device manager (action>add Legacy hardware>manually>network adapters>have disk..) I tried this with the latest drivers I got from gigabytes website but it didn't even show a device, so I tried the original drivers from the mobo dvd which gave 3 devices.. I tried them all.. each time reinstalling the latest drivers and whatnot to no avail. I'm Thinking of trying to use the windows 64 bit repair disk seeing as it might be software related seeing as it doesn't even show the firewire adapter.
