Windows 7 Won't Resume From Sleep; Restart Not Available?

Apr 25, 2011

My laptop (Dell Vostro V13) is stuck in some kind of limbo. It went into sleep mode and won't wake up fully! It "resumes" the boot-up sequence right up until the four windows colors do their characteristic swirl animation - then the screen goes black.I can't seem to force a fresh restart b/c every time I power off and back on, the laptop tries to *resume* and gets stuck again.Hitting F2 and F12 allows me to run bios and memory tests, but to no avail. The laptop always attempts a resume. How do I break this sleep-resume cycle and do a fresh restart? Reinstalling the OS is out of the question (too many important files will be erased

Windows Crash On Restart From The 'sleep' Option?

Sep 21, 2012

I have a new Lenovo machine with Windows 7 preloaded

I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

Webcam Not Detected After Sleep, Shutdown, Or Restart

Oct 30, 2010

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate edition. I got a Logitech Quickcam pro 9000, I have had it for a while and always had this problem. So the problem is whenever my PC is shut down, restarted, or wakes from sleep my webcam is either not detected, or is detected as a USB 1.1 device, instead of USB 2.0. In order for it to be detected as USB 2.0, or even detected at all, I have to unplugg it and plug it back in. I have all the current software and drivers for my motherboard, windows, and my webcam, in fact I just rechecked yesterday. So, my motherboard is an Nvidia 780i sli. I have looked in the Bios and USB 2.0 is definately enabled. Besides I know it working cause none of my other devices have this issue, plus like I said if I unplugg then plug the webcam back in, it is once again detected as a USB 2.0 device. I have tried all my USB plugs on my PC, and same result. So maybe a bios update? I have the P06 and noticed there is a P10 bios version now. Also when I go into device manager and click show devices by connection, I do not see a USB 2.0 catagory anywhere. Shouldn't USB 2.0 devices be in the USB 2.0 subcatagory? Or is it listed as something different cause of my MB, or Windows 7?

BSOD Plus Restart From Sleep Mode And Shutdown Errors

I am totally new to this and am really confused. About maybe a week ago I started having BSOD, plus Windows wouldn't restart after going into Sleepmode, and when I tried to Shut Down it would bring up the shut down screen then just keep "shutting down" with out ever shutting down.

So I read some internet stuff and "Reinstalled Windows 7" and seem to still have the issues.

Front Panel Audio Jack Doesnt Work After Sleep Mode Until Restart

Jun 3, 2012

I have realtek ALC898, part of gigabyte Z77 UD5h mobo, windows 7 ultimate 64bit. Rear jack speakers always work, sound always works. But after sleep, the front panel audio jack does not work, ie headphones silent.

Workaround 1) go to device manager, disable realtek high definition audio, then enable it, then front panel audio jack works properly. workaround 2) restart the computer and it works again.

I tried disabling sleep and using hibernate, since I read somewhere that hibernate is like a restart, but apparently it is not. Using hibernate, once it resumes from hibernate, front jack still doesnt work just like using sleep mode.

It sounds like resuming from sleep mode or hibernate mode, that windows 7 is failing to reinitialize some of the realtek audio drivers, at least those associated with front panel audio jack for headphones. So have to restart or disable/enable realtek high def audio in device manager. I have most recent realtek drivers, tried both from realtek, and most recent from Gigabyte, both have same issue. My windows 7 is fully up to date.

Am I right in this is just failure of 7 to reinitialize some drivers?

Won't Sleep From Start Menu But Sleep Timer Works?

Apr 1, 2012

I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.

Slow Resume From Sleep If Sleep For Long Time

Apr 21, 2011

I currently run Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 8gig ram, intel i7-2600k cpu, and my OS runs on an OCZ SSD (all specs are in my profile)Sleep mode is set to S3 in BIOS, I have hibernation disabled (so no hibernation.sys file on my c drive)When I put my computer to sleep then immediately wake it up, the login screen shows instantly, I type in my pass and it loads in like 0.5 seconds. When I put my computer to sleep but wait for around 1-2 hrs before waking it, it shows the login screen instantly but after i hit login, it gives me the Welcome spinning circle thingy for like 20 seconds before I can see my desktop. That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.

PC Won't Restart

Sep 5, 2012

Bit of a weird one this. My PC won't restart. When I try to get it to restart, it will stay on the black screen right at the very beginning but with nothing else happening; no disk activity or anything. The only remedy is for me to switch it off via the power button and then switch it on again - it boots fine from this. It shuts down absolutely fine, and there are no other problems with my system at all. It's actually more of annoyance than anything else as there don't appear to be any other adverse effects at all. I am guessing it's a mobo issue, but really, I'm stumped.

No USB On Restart Of Windows 7

Oct 19, 2011

So I've been messing around with varrious drivers to try and get "RAGE" working and to make this tumultuous process more agravating I've somehow inadvertently uninstalled my USB drivers as well. This wouldn't be an issue, except that my computer has no PS2 ports.I used "GPU caps viewer" to check my driver version as I'd not noticed a change in my gaming performance and I was unsure if the 11.10 preview 2 drivers had been installed. "GPU caps viewer" said i was still running 11.8 which is what I had before I tried changing drivers last time. So I guessed that my drivers had not changed dispite the fact i uninstalled/reinstalled using the guide on the AMD /ATI site.So on a bunch of sites I saw people were using "Driver Sweeper" to get rid of the registry files and hidden bits of the ATI/AMD drivers. I used this application, it found; stuff removed it and then asked if i wanted to reboot. Which I figured after Uninstalling the Drivers and this program tooling around it was probably required sooner than later to finish the uninstall. At this point the drivers are "uninstalled" and the generic windows driver is working because my resolution/aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and wont go 16:10/16:9.AND more importantly my USB devices were all still working.I restart the computer and It loads windows and I try to type my password and nothing happens, The mouse cursor is in the middle of the screen and I can not move it, and there are no lights on my keyboard. The optical sensor in the bottom of my mouse Also does not light up.I restart again, and check the BIOS, all USB ports are enabled, so I try booting in to safe mode. I can use my keyboard to work in the BIOS, and to select "Safe mode with networking" (vs safe mode with out)When safe mode loads, same issue. No power to USB devices.I tested a bunch of devices; xbox controler; USB memory stick, external HDD etc. and none work.I don't know what to do; the mouse and keyboard work in the recovery partition installed on my HDD, but I really don't want to lose all that data. Ill probably end up using a live CD of linux to get my files and then format the PC if I can't figure out how to fix this.
