Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.

If I just let it sit, the screen saver will appear, then the monitor will sleep. However, once the computer is locked, the monitor will not sleep.The monitor auto sleeping was working perfectly fine last week.I have triple checked the Power Options, ensuring the monitor sleeps in 10 minutes (screen saver activates at 5 minutes). I've also looked at the Advanced Power Options setting, and that is set at 10 minutes as well. I have reset to defaults and the problem still persists. I have also tried to set a GPO to see if that would work, nothing either.how the monitor will sleep when the computer isn't locked.I know I could just sleep my computer (I don't want to) or turn my monitor off (this gets annoying after a while).

Triple checked monitor settings/power options
Reset to defaults, then set the monitor to sleep at 10 minutes
Changed to a new theme
Enabled monitor sleep GPO
Restarted multiple times
Disabled screen saver
My monitor has no sleep settings (settings, not function; it has the sleep function)
I accidentally clicked sleep mode when shutting down the computer, and now it won't wake up. I can hear the fan running, but nothing is showing up on the screen, nor is the power light on.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.

I need to know what determines the state in which the computer thinks it's okay to commence sleep. Is it a lack of keyboard/mouse input or is the OS smart enough to understand that an application is running. I do not want the computer to start sleeping while Acronis is performing a timed image backup and I'm fairly certain that Acronis cannot wake up a computer that's sleeping to start its function.

This is very annoying it means i have to shut down the maching everytime i am not using it. The problem is that when i close the lid, the machine pretends to go to sleep for about 10 seconds and then restarts. When I reopen the lid, the machine no longer displays. I've updated all the driver I could find, but haven't tried a clean install yet (I do have everything backed up) and have run AVG antivirus which hasn't come up with anything.
When I try to put my computer to sleep, the screen goes into sleep mode, yet literally nothing happens with my tower. Then after a second or two, the monitor wakes back up and shows the login screen. I've tried checking powercfg /requests and -lastwake, and requests shows "None." across all topics, and lastwake says Wake History Count - 0.

Once it enters sleep mode, the only way to get it functioning again is to hold the power button, completely shut it off, and then boot my system back up. It appears as if everything starts back up once I open the lid or press the power button to wake it up, but the screen never turns back on. View 2 Replies View RelatedI got my laptop a few weeks ago and noticed that it will sometimes go into hibernate, and other times it will not, and instead hang on a black (but enabled/on) LCD. When you touch the keyboard, it even makes Windows 7 dings for incorrectly pressed key (meaning the OS is still on). If it is going into sleep or hibernate due to low battery and this error happens, it will just keep beeping really loudly at me until the laptop dies (I'm assuming that's the motherboard's part, though).I have no idea what to do, and I'm really freaking puzzled right now. I've already tried turning hybrid sleep on and off, and neither of them yielded any positive results. Anyone have any clue what I should do?
PS: I've noticed last night after gaming for a bit, that the fans remained in a full blast state (yes, even when the game is closed). This might be related to it although I am not sure. Also, I cannot upgrade my video drivers because the graphics are integrated with the Intel Integrated Graphics, meaning the drivers are made by the manufacturer.

is there anything bad about having your computer sleep often? i have it set to sleep when idle for 15 mins so it sleeps and wakes alot. Can there be anything negative from too much sleep?
