I would like to set the sleep option for my laptop when on commercial power. I need to know what determines the state in which the computer thinks it's okay to commence sleep. Is it a lack of keyboard/mouse input or is the OS smart enough to understand that an application is running. I do not want the computer to start sleeping while Acronis is performing a timed image backup and I'm fairly certain that Acronis cannot wake up a computer that's sleeping to start its function.
Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.
Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be
Whenever i try to sleep the com, then resume it from sleep 10minutes later, it seems to work. But let's say i let it sleep for 3hours or more - it starts up as if i did not shut it down properly - it displays the "start windows normally" and other associated options.FYI i disabled the hibernate option as i am using a SSD for boot (not sure if it affects the sleep function though).[CODE]
Have a Windows 7 computer running well for 2 months or so, but suddenly, it won't make itself sleep, but has no problem going to sleep with the start menu button. After a lot of Googling, I used "powercfg -requests" in Command Prompt (Admin Mode) and got SYSTEM:[DRIVER] FileSystemsrvnetAn active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine. So I Googled and overrid FileSystemsrvnet with "powercfg -requestsoverride driver srvnet system" and "powercfg -requestsoverride driver FileSystemsrvnet system" (don't know which one worked) but autosleep worked again. The new problem is that the connection will drop while I'm network sharing, which is what the override's supposed to do, right? Is there a better way to fix the insomnia problem?
The power saving sleep mode does not automatically "kick in" as scheduled using the power option menu in the control panel. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit operating system.
I recently reinstalled windows 7 on my laptop, fujitsu siemens and since then, it no longer goes to sleep (either when I close the lid or when I choose sleep from the start menu). This is very annoying it means i have to shut down the maching everytime i am not using it. The problem is that when i close the lid, the machine pretends to go to sleep for about 10 seconds and then restarts. When I reopen the lid, the machine no longer displays. I have to hold down the power button to force a shutdown and then restart.
When I go into Power options in the control panel it says "Chage plan settings" so I turn off my display after one hour and that's OK. Then it says "Put the computer to sleep" from 1 minute to 5 hours so what does that mean?
1. I have have issues with the computer not sleeping properly for the last couple months. Occasionally, instead of sleeping the screen will turn off but the computer will keep running and none of the keys will work, leaving the computer stuck in this state until I restart it manually or the battery dies.
2. In the last month or so, I started getting BOSDs. Here are the details from the BlueScreenViewer:
I've updated all the driver I could find, but haven't tried a clean install yet (I do have everything backed up) and have run AVG antivirus which hasn't come up with anything.
When I try to put my computer to sleep, the screen goes into sleep mode, yet literally nothing happens with my tower. Then after a second or two, the monitor wakes back up and shows the login screen. I've tried checking powercfg /requests and -lastwake, and requests shows "None." across all topics, and lastwake says Wake History Count - 0.
It is a random occurrence with my iPhone and Kindle. When I plug them in, the computer starts going to sleep, but if I keep moving my finger over the touch pad, it will eventually stop. I have 3 USB ports on my Dell laptop and the problem seems to occur randomly with any of them. I have tried new cords and it still occurs randomly. It seems like the drivers are updated and working correctly.
Recently, my computer will not wake up from sleep mode. Once it enters sleep mode, the only way to get it functioning again is to hold the power button, completely shut it off, and then boot my system back up. It appears as if everything starts back up once I open the lid or press the power button to wake it up, but the screen never turns back on. The fan starts up, the backlit keyboard lights up, the leds all blink, but nothing I try will turn the screen back on forcing me to press and hold the power button for a complete shut down.I have reinstalled the latest Intel HD Graphics driver as well as the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (both the stable and beta release).I do not get a blue screen or any sort of error. Upon the restart, I am not prompted with any error from windows or any signs of the forced shut down.
I upgraded to Windows 7 when it was first released and for some reason cannot use the sleep function. My power options in the control panel are set to "Balanced." I've opened up every menu I can think of and changed the settings but can't figure out why I can only use hibernate.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Most of the times after I resume from sleep, it's fine. Though every now and then I notice that when I try to wake my laptop up, the screen remains black and I can't do anything but a hard restart. Can anyone help me out with this please?
Computer Won't goto sleep? By default Windows 7 has media sharing turned on ( for xbox , ps3) etc this prevents it from going into standby Mode [code] Set to allow the computer to sleep
I've been using my computer for about a month and the sleep function has worked perfectly until lately. It has been correctly going to sleep when commanded from the Start menu, and also after the allotted time (30 minutes) goes to sleep when the computer is idle. But, for the last few days, it will not automatically enter sleep mode when I leave the computer idle for 30 minutes.
my computer sometimes wont resume from sleep when i hit a button on the keyboard, if i do it fires up then just dies out completely. its like someone hit the power switch on the p.supply. it just does this randomely, not all the time but its extremely annoying because i have to boot from scratch everytime. my specs are gigabyte ma790xt-ud4p, Amd x4 955 phenom 2 G-skill ripjaws 4gb ddr3(2x2gb) Seasonic 700w P.S CM v8 cooler and so on.im running windows 7 Ultimate 64
It is going into sleep mode like state *I am doing stuff on it when this happens. only problem is I can't wake it up. So I have to use the button to power it down and then power it back up. Now this COULD be because of the beta for SWTOR that I am in. *First time I have ever seen it happen is when I am running that game and it has only happened twice.
Computer has been working perfectly and decided to try the sleep mode last evening as opposed to turning it off. Bad move, now the keyboard, mouse and monitor are unresponsive. No way to communicate with the computer whatsoever. Tried re-booting but can tell from the sound of it, is only powering back on in sleep mode.
Never used the sleep mode on my computer before and tried it for the first time last night. Bad choice as now the mouse, keyboard and monitor are in a coma. Tried re-booting to no avail, simply comes on in sleep mode. Haven't a clue what to due as there is no way to communicate with the computer
It will go into sleep mode and wake up on its own 2 minutes later.Sometimes it will stay sleeping for a couple of hours and wake itself up.I thought maybe the mouse was doing it so I turned off the mouse wake.
I got my laptop a few weeks ago and noticed that it will sometimes go into hibernate, and other times it will not, and instead hang on a black (but enabled/on) LCD. When you touch the keyboard, it even makes Windows 7 dings for incorrectly pressed key (meaning the OS is still on). If it is going into sleep or hibernate due to low battery and this error happens, it will just keep beeping really loudly at me until the laptop dies (I'm assuming that's the motherboard's part, though).I have no idea what to do, and I'm really freaking puzzled right now. I've already tried turning hybrid sleep on and off, and neither of them yielded any positive results. Anyone have any clue what I should do?
PS: I've noticed last night after gaming for a bit, that the fans remained in a full blast state (yes, even when the game is closed). This might be related to it although I am not sure. Also, I cannot upgrade my video drivers because the graphics are integrated with the Intel Integrated Graphics, meaning the drivers are made by the manufacturer.
Here's my laptop specifications by the way:

is there anything bad about having your computer sleep often? i have it set to sleep when idle for 15 mins so it sleeps and wakes alot. Can there be anything negative from too much sleep?
I often have to use my laptop in a meeting, but don't like to wait for it to reboot. Can I just put it into sleep mode before leaving my office or is hibernate better?
I built this computer in March of this year and everything worked great. I had my power options set up so I could switch between high performance and power saver for when I'm not using it. Power saver was set up to turn off display and put the computer to sleep after 1 minute. I don't recall changing any of the advanced settings but maybe I forgot something.
I used to wake it up simply by hitting the space bar and everything would come back on. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 two days ago and since then when I choose power saver and it goes to sleep after whatever time I set it to, it no longer wakes up. Well, this is where I'm lost because it still makes the same noises like the fans spinning harder and all that but nothing appears on my monitor. At first I thought it had something to do with my monitor but I just realized that the lights on my mouse don't come on either. Which they used to before when I'd hit the space bar.
My build: Windows 7 Home Premium Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (RAM) 8.00GB System type: 64- bit
The problem started when I clicked on an image in google images. The computer shutdown immediatly and when I restarted it I got the notice that it had shutdown badly and options of starting in safe mode or normally. I started it normally and system repair ran. I finally got it started and everything seemed fine until I left it in sleep mode. When I came back it had shutdown and I had the same problem starting it. This has happened several times. If I shut it down and restart it is fine. I have System Mechanics Pro and scanned for malware and found none. Now when I search on google I am being redirected to other websites every third or fourth time.
My computer will BSOD after waking up from it's sleep. Now it wasn't a usual occurrence, it just lagged but lately it always went to blue screen after waking up.I checked, there are no Flash Drives plugged in, but the USB for the wireless mouse is plugged in but that never had any affect before.
I recently purchased this computer used. It has windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) and the computer is a custom build I think. Anyway, the option to "sleep" is there, but non-selectable. I think I've encountered this before and I installed a driver or something and it was fine. Also, the desktop themes are limited; I can't customize the aero window/taskbar theme..
