I recently purchased this computer used. It has windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) and the computer is a custom build I think. Anyway, the option to "sleep" is there, but non-selectable. I think I've encountered this before and I installed a driver or something and it was fine. Also, the desktop themes are limited; I can't customize the aero window/taskbar theme..

I just got a new HP desktop, and a wireless router to put into the USB port. It worked perfectly after initial install with the drivers, but after coming back from sleep, it does not see the adapter, and I have to re install the drivers to get it to work. If I shut down the system, then turn it back on, the adapter works perfectly.

Dell laptop running Windows 7.Always had option to put computer in sleep mode when closing cover.That option is gone.Also, mic stopped working. And when turning on computer, display has changed everything is large, and need to go back in and reset resolution. Tried going back two weeks in a system restore.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe Power Configuration will not let me change the value. The field, which is set to 'Never', is greyed out. There is a warning that basically tells me to check the Group Policy settings. Note 1: I can change all other power configuration options apart from this one Note 2: This happens on all 4 Windows 7 machines in my network (private home) Note 3:I run SBS 2003 and have a domain. I am pretty sure that there is no Group Policy that can be set to prevent a user from changing the sleep valueI have looked and none of the policies are even close. All polices that have anything to do with power configuration are undefined. Note 4: I have checked the group policy settings on the computers and no, I can't find a policy that would prevent anyone from changing the sleep timer. Note 5: Yes, of course I have admin rights on the computer.

I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy desktop with Win 7 Prof lets me see a Library with all my photos (in my Pictures folder), all neatly laid out in order of Date Taken.My new laptop simply says New Library when I click Windows Explorer and it appears empty.However, it tells me that MY PICTURES are already in a Library, but I simply can't find it and view all my pics.Additionally, there doesn't seem to be a DATE TAKEN option visible (although I have seen it somewhere!), instead it's DATE MODIFIED or something similar.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a separate partiton and installed Win 7 fine. It dual booted fine as well. I then renamed the old XP boot partition and this caused the PC to give NTLDR missing and wouldnt boot.
So I reinstalled Win 7 as a custom install and it all boots fine into Win 7 without providing me a dual boot option. I am not too concerned about this as eventually I was going to go completely over to Win 7 anyway
Question I have is
1) The old Win XP boot partition is viewable in explorer. Can I just reformat this and reclaim the space - I want to make sure that the PC is not looking for any files in that old partition
2) Can I delete the Windows.old folder as well
I have no choice but to try and load a program onto my Windows 7 machine that only has WinXP compatibility (well not 64-bit Windows 7 anyway) It is Samsung PC Studio for what that is worth.So my plan is to load it in XP compatible mode . The thing is there sem to be 2 parts to the program .1 is the program as such and the 2nd part is the usb drivers. I understand the procedure is to find the application file ,go to the compatibility tab and select WinXP.So my question is how do I know which are the right applications to change in this way? When I go into the folders there are quite a lot different ones . Is it really as painstaking as it seems ? I don't think when I just load the CD I am given an option to load in XP mode and when I click on the CD itself there doesn't seem to be an option to change all of the contained applications to XP compatible. Again I think I may be able to run the whole Win 7 operating system as WinXP but this seems like overkill

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've bough a Dell Inspiron 1564 with Windows 7 home premium x64 last month and everything was fine until a few days ago, when sleep mode stopped working. When I close my lid and open it up after some time there are 2 things that might happen:
1. The screen is just black, all the buttons are lit, I hear the fan, but no reaction at all. So I just forcibly turn off and turn it on again.
2. After opening the lid, nothing happens, when I try to turn it on, it loads up, but informs me that windows has not shut down properly last time (or something like that).
I set the hard drive to stop spinning after 4 hours of idle activity but it doesn't ever go to sleep. If I set the time interval to < 1 hour like 45 min then it will go to sleep.
I'm not talking about the computer going to sleep/hibernating, I mean the spinning of the hard drive.
I'm having problems when my laptop goes to sleep, I'm not sure what happens but when my battery is low, it goes to sleep but doesn't wake up even if I plug the charger in. The only way I can get this fix is to restart it by shutting it down through the power button.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Lenovo multi touch driver for my X61T. With Windows 7 build 7000 the same driver when I wake my laptop from sleep the touch screen works. Starting with build 704x (i can't remember the exact build but it was the first leaked x64 build) when I wake the machine from sleep the touch screen doesn't work (both pen and finger touch)
I have tried to change USB settings but I haven't seen any fix. A restart of the machine means the tablet works again. Any ideas about a patch until Lenovo makes new drivers for Windows 7?
My laptop is an MSI Gx660, running windows 7 64bit with 12gb ram.The laptop is only 1-2months old and My harddisk has very little files with about 205gb free on the C drive.
After using for a long period of time like 6-7hours, I would usually put my laptop into hibernate mode.When I click hibernate, the screen turns black but even after 20mins the power button including wifi and other lights doesnt go off, which I have to force shutdown by holding the power button. Even sleeping the laptop after 6-7hours does the same issue, unable to go to sleep(indicated by the blinking power button)
The wierd thing is that if I use the laptop for about 2 hours or less, I am able to fully hibernate or sleep, which I tested a few times.
I went to sleep last night with the computer on (Windows 7 7077) like always and this morning it's still on but none of the usb devices are working, monitor doesn't come back from sleep state but the fans on all the components are still spinning. I tried hard rebooting 3-4 times and still nothing. I let it sit and cool off for a bit and still nothing. Anyone know what the problem could be?
I was thinking it was the motherboard but then wouldn't the ethernet light be off if the board wasn't working? The only thing on the computer the has been overclocked is the CPU which I took from 3.0ghz to 3.8ghz and it's been running fine on the stock cooler for the past 6 months almost and then bam it's like this. I don't think it could of been over heating as the temps usually run 30C at idle and 50-60C at full load and the side is off of it.
I have recently notice that my laptop has the following issues:- Doesn't follow power option settings (shutting off the monitor, go to sleep on timeout, etc)- Doesn't turn on the screen saver. Previewing the screensaver turns it off in about a second (even if my hands are off the mouse/keyboard).- Windows 7 Projector Connection screen (WinKey+P) goes away after a second or so after bringing it up- Some windows open in background (for example, Picasa image viewer opens windowed in the background instead of fullscreen in front as it used to) From what I understand based on some light Googling and vague leads, there is some sort of interrupt happening that makes the OS think it is being actively used. Unfortunately I am not sure how to pinpoint and solve the issue from here on, so therefore I turn to this forum for help. Some notes about stuff I tried and know about this issue:- This must have happened in the past week or two. I do not recall installing any new software and the only updates that passed my memory were Windows Updates.- Checking Task Manager doesn't reveal any suspicious processes to me.- Some sources suggested this could be a faulty Logitech driver. I own a Logitech mouse and keyboard combo.
Something to consider, I guess? Specs:- Windows 7 32b SP 1, up to date- AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58- 2GB RAM- 250GB HDD- ATI Radeon Xpress 1150- Connected devices: LAN, Logitech Alto Connect Notebook Stand, Logitech S520 Keyboard + mouse that goes with that kit, USB external drive, VGA monitor, line-in running into the microphone port to play sound out of the laptop speakers
I had a problem about ipv6 on windows 7 for a long time. I have a ipv6 & ipv4 dual stack network. Every time I wake up my computer, the ipv6 cannot work. The appearance is that I can't ping and access ipv6 website. But after some research, I realize that only the DNS part is broken. When I ping the ipv6 site like ipv6.google.com, it tells me it find no host, but if I use nslookup, I can find the ipv6 address. And the following are my tries:
ping ipv6.google.com -- not work
ping 2a00:1450:8001::68 -- does work, the ip is the ipv6.google.com address
ping -6 ipv6.google.com -- does work like the above
I had my laptop for about 5 months running OEM Win 7 home premium 32bit. The system came with no disks so I am stuck, for now, with the copy loaded. Anyway, things had been running smoothly up to a few weeks ago, for when I tried to put my system into hibernate, like I've done many times before, the screen went black, but the system did not power-down. I could not do anything but power-cycle it. When it came back I got the "Windows failed to shutdown properly blah blah blah" message. I tried 'sleep' and the same thing happened. I don't do much in the way of adding or removing programs on this laptop, aside from updates and the only recent hardware change was using a usb mouse. Which I have tried removing this and there was no change. I have tried updating drivers that needed it (video, audio, and network) as well as the BIOS. No luck.

Means that Fn + F2,F3 doesn't work, change from Windows Power Options doesn't work, change from intel graphic doesn't work. If I have to restart some services to get it working? It's occasional and I can't find anything exact in EventLog. My system is HP Probook 4230s with Core i5-2410 with intel HD3000. Latest patches on both Win 7 Pro 32-bit and intel driver. Restart machines solve the problem, re-hibernate or re-suspend machine occasionally solve the problem, but mostly not.

All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!

I normally have the computer plugged into an ethernet channel, but today I moved it into a different room for work and it cannot connect wirelessly to the internet. In fact, it does not give me that as an option at all! Strange, as I never had this problem before.The only significant change that I had was I installed Adobe Creative Cloud, but I don't see how that could mess things up.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor.But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything.Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?
