Sleep Option Disabled In Powercfg.cpl?
Oct 17, 2010The Power Configuration will not let me change the value. The field, which is set to 'Never', is greyed out. There is a warning that basically tells me to check the Group Policy settings. Note 1: I can change all other power configuration options apart from this one Note 2: This happens on all 4 Windows 7 machines in my network (private home) Note 3:I run SBS 2003 and have a domain. I am pretty sure that there is no Group Policy that can be set to prevent a user from changing the sleep valueI have looked and none of the policies are even close. All polices that have anything to do with power configuration are undefined. Note 4: I have checked the group policy settings on the computers and no, I can't find a policy that would prevent anyone from changing the sleep timer. Note 5: Yes, of course I have admin rights on the computer.

I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

Aug 19, 2012I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad running Windows 7 Ultimate x32 to operate an astronomical observatory. This requires running a range of software simultaneously. On several occassions, my computer has gone into sleep mode and will not respond to waking requiring a hard shutdown and reboot. This introduces a host of registry errors and stops any astrophotography. I have looked into Event Viewer and all I get is the following entry:

Aug 24, 2009I downloaded the RC over the summer to try it out, alongside linux mint. I like it so much that I've decided to abandon the linux distro for now and let Windows 7 take over my whole hard drive. The one thing remaining before falling in love is the lack of standby mode. The sleep function is grayed out in the start menu, so I can't even put it to sleep. This is annoying because I'm using a laptop at school, which I would like to put on standby (instead of hibernating) between classes. This is a 100% fresh install. It was the first thing I tried once the install finished, because I had trouble with the previous Windows 7 install.

Oct 14, 2011I cannot provide a BSOD error code/info because there was none generated; there was no BSOD. What happened was that I had a few applications open. MSN, Firefox, Opera, and Songbird are what I normally have open, and they never caused a problem before. Then I had Google Chrome open, which I do at times with no side effects, and was playing Angry Birds. The link I used to play is this one: Angry Birds Chrome, then after about an hour playing, the computer suddenly went into sleep mode. It refused to wake up. I had to force reboot it. It was able to load up just fine after that. I looked in the event logs and found nothing to determine the cause of the sudden sleep mode.
The only thing I did different is playing Angry Birds. I don't know if it being in HD had anything to do with it, or if Google Chrome just experienced a glitch that affected the entire system somehow, though I don't know the odds of that. Another thought I had was the problem was due to a storm outside. It was raining and thundering outside. A friend of mine suggested the issue may have been due to a partial power loss that was enough to knock the computer into sleep mode, but not strong enough to cause a full on power outage.
Aero Peek Disabled After Waking From Sleep Mode?
Nov 22, 20097 x64 goes in/out of Sleep Mode successfully, but Aero Peek's visual effects disable approx. 2 sec. after the system wakes. If I log out/on the effects are still disabled; I have to reboot to establish.

* I also have issue with right-clicking and Explorer crashing, however mine only occurs when I right-click on the Recycle Bin, and only after my computer has been running for awhile and I am recycling multiple files.
Sleep Option Gone / Mic Not Working
Jun 21, 2012Dell laptop running Windows 7.Always had option to put computer in sleep mode when closing cover.That option is gone.Also, mic stopped working. And when turning on computer, display has changed everything is large, and need to go back in and reset resolution. Tried going back two weeks in a system restore.

Apr 22, 2011yesterday i turned off computer and everything was working perfectly. today i turned it on and i cant login to my user account and theres only 1 user (me). my password has 2 @@'s and the ctrl and alt were disabled i think because i also tried using the onscreen keyboard and cant make the symbols either. my keyboard is portuguese and uses alt + ctrl+2 to make these symbols. I CANT LOGIN TO MY COMPUTER! (not this 1).

We also noticed that most of the services are disabled and the ability to enable them is grayed out. We re enabled UAC but no help. Windows 7 was working fine but then after one of its automatic updates the sound stopped working on the system.(i.e. Red "X" on speaker icon) I have tried enabling the audio in normal, mode safe mode. The driver is up to date and I have even tried re-installing it.
System restore provided a temporary fix as after one normal use of the PC windows will re-disable the audio. (and yes I disabled auto updates....windows still manages to disable the audio)
I had the PC sent out under Manufactures Warranty to try to resolve the issue, but as the warranty only covers physical damage to the system all the service center was able to do was confirm that it was a software problem (they checked the hardware and found it to be working properly).
So I have determined that the audio is solely software related and that it must be disabled deep in the system as the usual enable/disable buttons have no effect.

Won't Sleep From Start Menu But Sleep Timer Works?
Apr 1, 2012I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.

That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct). Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage. The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference) I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?.
