I recently purchased this computer used. It has windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) and the computer is a custom build I think. Anyway, the option to "sleep" is there, but non-selectable. I think I've encountered this before and I installed a driver or something and it was fine. Also, the desktop themes are limited; I can't customize the aero window/taskbar theme..

I had to reinstall Windows and now I'm reconfiguring the power options. When I go to "control what closing the lid does" in my control panel, the option to Sleep is not there. It only allows me to select "Hibernate" or "Do Nothing"

The Power Configuration will not let me change the value. The field, which is set to 'Never', is greyed out. There is a warning that basically tells me to check the Group Policy settings. Note 1: I can change all other power configuration options apart from this one Note 2: This happens on all 4 Windows 7 machines in my network (private home) Note 3:I run SBS 2003 and have a domain. I am pretty sure that there is no Group Policy that can be set to prevent a user from changing the sleep valueI have looked and none of the policies are even close. All polices that have anything to do with power configuration are undefined. Note 4: I have checked the group policy settings on the computers and no, I can't find a policy that would prevent anyone from changing the sleep timer. Note 5: Yes, of course I have admin rights on the computer.

I have a new Lenovo machine with Windows 7 preloaded
I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

I located the SEND TO folder, and deleted the fax option, and added a folder I wanted. Both of thes options appear in the send to options list when I right click, and the folder works that I added. After searching the internet the only help I found for adding my default printer, HP 8600, like I did in Win XP told me what I alredy knew.So i opened the DEND TO folder and Dragged/Dropped the Default Printer into the folder and created a shortcut there. So far so good. The printer option appears in the FOLDER, but does not appear as an option when one right-clicks on a doc. I tried a reboot of the system, but it remains the same.

I just downloaded internet explorer 9. Previously, I was using IE8. Every day, when ie8 would open up (it would load automatically at startup from AOL IM), I would go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, and all the tabs and pages I had open when I closed my previous session would load (though in reverse order left to right, annoyingly). Now that I'm running IE9, when I go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, the option is greyed out - it does not work. The only time it works is if I close IE9 and then reopen the browser without rebooting. If I reboot, which I do every day, the option is not available like it used to be in IE8. (Seems like every time I download an updated version of anything anymore, something inevitably stops working or is worse than it was before - this soooo tiresome.)
I've tried a regedit I found somewhere on these forums - setting for 'turn off reopen last browsing session' to 'disable'. Didn't work.I do not have IE9 set to delete my browsing history on exit.I have the box checked for Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility view.

My pc can wake up from sleep if it is shut down, but if it's on sleep or hibernated, i can not wake it up. I've already turned on everything in Bios and Windows. There no option like WakeOnLAN from Sleep, just WakeOnLan from PowerOff in network adapter's Advanced tab properties. I've also updated network car driver. Maybe I should try with other network card?

I recently reformatted my HP Pavilion p6580t and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. For some reason, the sleep timer isn't working. It won't put alseep the monitor, nor computer. If I manually put it to sleep it works, but won't off the timer. The only thing I updated was the graphics driver SP59747 and install TP Link wireless usb network stick on the computer. After installing, the sleep timer isn't working. It did seem to work before installing those 2 items.

I have all my power settings to never go to sleep and when I leave my computer on unattended for about 20 minutes I come back and see the password screen. That may be ok as long as I don't lose any work in progress, but I would like to control this or at least understand it.

I have a relatively old laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad x61) which is running 32-bit Windows 7 and has an intel NIC.I have been trying to setup wake-on-lan (inmy local network) for this machine for a couple of days and haven't been able to make it completely work. I have upgraded the bios and the drivers on the machine to the latest versions and also enabled WOL in the bios and in the driver for the NIC. When I put the machine in sleep and then after 10 - 15 minutes send a magic packet from a remote machine, it does wake up.The problem is, when the machine goes to sleep and stays in sleep mode for a long time (over night), then I can't wake it up any more. The machine is still in the sleep mode (it does not hibernate), but I think it turns off something after being in sleep for a while.

My mic doesn't work after I wake my computer from sleep mode. To get it to work, I have to unplug my mic, shut down all my applications that use a mic, plug my mic in, then restart the applications. It works, but it's a bit of a nuisance to do that every day.

I'm not blindly posting the issue. I have done research and followed other threads in order to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail.I built my computer back in January of this year. Not up until a few days ago did I start having this issue. I can't think of any major changes I made in order to cause this. I can use my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard the wake the computer up from the sleep mode... but once it's up, neither of them are responding.Things I checked for: Latest update on the USB drivers, Logitech Software update (including the PS/2 Driver) Windows update. I checked if the option is checked ON for 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' (and it is on). When other things are plugged in the same USB port, they work just fine after sleep mode, e.g. my drawin

I have a recurring issue that drives me nuts to no end: Everytime I put my computer to sleep (I'm 99.5% sure this is the cause), Aero preview crashes, and prevents me from switching to an application with more than one window open (that is, using the taskbar). I have to kill and relaunch explorer to bring it back, but as I shut my laptop lid often, this is hardly ideal.

I've been having problems with my computer's sleep and hibernation. Whenever I use them, my computer shuts down instead, and when i go to wake it up I get a screen saying Windows shut down improperly. I did a little searching around and found out it seemed to be a common problem after installing SP1 for Windows 7, and that there was a fix. But when i went to download the fix, it told me I already had it downloaded. Yet I still have this problem. Other places said to try turning off the hybrid sleep option - except mine was already off.

I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.

I currently run Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 8gig ram, intel i7-2600k cpu, and my OS runs on an OCZ SSD (all specs are in my profile)Sleep mode is set to S3 in BIOS, I have hibernation disabled (so no hibernation.sys file on my c drive)When I put my computer to sleep then immediately wake it up, the login screen shows instantly, I type in my pass and it loads in like 0.5 seconds. When I put my computer to sleep but wait for around 1-2 hrs before waking it, it shows the login screen instantly but after i hit login, it gives me the Welcome spinning circle thingy for like 20 seconds before I can see my desktop. That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.

I have a Win7 Ultrabook. I'm using Areca backup software to backup my personal data.I created a Scheduled Task to run my backup weekly.I set it so that it would wake from sleep to run the task. But I'm having trouble finding a setting to tell it to return to sleep if it woke itself up. Is it possible to do so?In the alternative, is there something I can insert in my batch file (the scheduled task runs a bat file) to tell my book to enter sleep mode?

There are 2 options in the BIOS for my laptop fan:Silent and Normal.Right now, it is running under option 1 - "Silent".This may well be the reason why I don't hear any sound of the fan (unlike my other laptop that has a relatively noisy fan coming ON and OFF from time to time).Do I need to switch to "Normal" mode? Will there be any problem in the long run if I stay with the existing setting? The touchpad area and its vicinity are sometimes hot (not too much though) under the current setting. Has this anything to do with that BIOS option for the fan?
