View 4 RepliesI've done a lot of searches using variations of the above title and came up empty or just plain missed the answer.I'd like to know, if it is not asking too much, the following points:
1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.
i've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am seeing something I have never seen before under power options. The selection is either unbundle (which acts like the normal power usage) and power saver. What is unbundle and how do I get it back to normal? I can't find the answer anywhere. Here are a few screen shots I took. [URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to reinstall Windows and now I'm reconfiguring the power options. When I go to "control what closing the lid does" in my control panel, the option to Sleep is not there. It only allows me to select "Hibernate" or "Do Nothing"
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to hack that button so you could, say, launch a special "locking" program instead of loggoff, shutdown, or any of the other options?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally set my power button to "shut down" in the right click taskbar>properties>start menu>power button action
drop down menu. but now whether i choose switch user, sleep, hibernate, log off, it always shuts down. the button on my laptop is super sensitive and i just don't want it to power off anymore, i've accidentally hit it one too many times.
Dell laptop running Windows 7.Always had option to put computer in sleep mode when closing cover. That option is gone. Also, mic stopped working. And when turning on computer, display has changed everything is large, and need to go back in and reset resolution. Tried going back two weeks in a system restore.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI located the SEND TO folder, and deleted the fax option, and added a folder I wanted. Both of thes options appear in the send to options list when I right click, and the folder works that I added. After searching the internet the only help I found for adding my default printer, HP 8600, like I did in Win XP told me what I alredy knew.So i opened the DEND TO folder and Dragged/Dropped the Default Printer into the folder and created a shortcut there. So far so good. The printer option appears in the FOLDER, but does not appear as an option when one right-clicks on a doc. I tried a reboot of the system, but it remains the same.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsince a few days the hibernate option is not working on my computer. I tried the Microsoft fix it programs for disabling and enabling hibernation, but it didn't help.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Performance mode, and set it to NEVER turn off ANYTHING, including the monitor.I hit apply, etc etc.It will hold this setting for a while, then after a reboot, or turning off at night, it loses this setting, and reverts to turn off monitor after 20 minutes. Why is Windows 7 doing this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded internet explorer 9. Previously, I was using IE8. Every day, when ie8 would open up (it would load automatically at startup from AOL IM), I would go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, and all the tabs and pages I had open when I closed my previous session would load (though in reverse order left to right, annoyingly). Now that I'm running IE9, when I go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, the option is greyed out - it does not work. The only time it works is if I close IE9 and then reopen the browser without rebooting. If I reboot, which I do every day, the option is not available like it used to be in IE8. (Seems like every time I download an updated version of anything anymore, something inevitably stops working or is worse than it was before - this soooo tiresome.)
I've tried a regedit I found somewhere on these forums - setting for 'turn off reopen last browsing session' to 'disable'. Didn't work.I do not have IE9 set to delete my browsing history on exit.I have the box checked for Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility view.
Kindly am running on windows 7 and the open folder in the same window option is not working.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy screensaver and power options are not working at all. they where working fine a few days ago and then all of the sudden they started to work intermittent and then they just stopped all together. i have a wireless mouse and ive never had any problems with it. when it first started happening i would unplug the mouse and the screen saver would kick on. but now thats not even working i have tried everything i have found on the internet and still nothing is working all the drivers are updated and nothing is running in the background so i am stumped
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the x64 version. I am having the problem that Power Point Viewer doesn't work. I don't want to buy or install Microsoft Office 2010 only for the Power Point Viewer because I really don't like it, don't use it and it takes huge space in my hard disk.Same about Open Office. I have been using the small application of Microsoft to run the power points. Just the viewer. Is anyone with x64 running the power point viewer? Does anyone know of a small sized alternative?

I enabled the power administrator ( i hope that's the right term) and the cam coder was recognized instantly.
what exactly the required permission that i should give my regular user in order for the USB to work? ( i would like to disable the administrator for security issues...)
I have all my power settings to never go to sleep and when I leave my computer on unattended for about 20 minutes I come back and see the password screen. That may be ok as long as I don't lose any work in progress, but I would like to control this or at least understand it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have build 7068. From the start my screensaver and power options are not working. The problem is sometimes they DO work. I am having trouble diagnosing it because of that fact. What would cause this? I just want the monitor to turn off 30 minutes after stop using the computer. That's the main issue. I go to "power options" and set it at 30 minutes and never put to sleep. What am I missing here?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 7000 x64 on a quad core intel box. Most things have been working great but I have been having one annoying problem, the screensaver won't start, and neither will the power saving settings (i.e. turning off monitor, computer sleep)
Basically I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and figured out what software or hardware could be causing it or if anyone knows of a tool to check what input is keeping the computer out of the idle state.
For some apparent reason both of my ports have stopped working, there's no power at all to them.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe power button on my PC has stopped working as it used to. Pressing the power button on my PC would normally send the PC to sleep, then pressing it again would wake it.Two things I have noticed
1) My PC stopped automatically going to sleep like it used to (after 1 hour) as set in the power setting's of the control panel - I have to manually "Shut Down" or "Sleep" from start menu now.
2) Pressing the power button, now just restart's the computer, greeting me with a "Windows did not shut down correctly" message after the BIOS post.
After the initial install of windows (if I remember correctly) the power button did not do anything unitl the ACPI drivers where installed (giving a message in the action centre saying "You need to install the power management"), after installing the ACPI drivers (Cool & Quiet from the ASUS site) the power button appeared to work as expected. Then randomly, a while ago, I got another message in the Action Centre, again saying "You need to install the power management ....", but I archived the message and am not sure how to view it again.Im not sure as to why this would start happening as it would suggest something has happened with the ACPI drivers and I dont know how I can actually check ACPI drivers in the device manager console. Also, is cool n quiet something specific to ASUS motherboards? I dont think I had this problem with a previous MSI board.#

Have just installed new desktop with windows 7 home premium 64bit. I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse both Microsoft. The screensaver does not activate. The setting is for a blank screen. Nor does the power save seem to work. I use the factory default settings. I've seen some posts with the same issue but no solutions except to uninstall the power DVD software and I'm not sure I should or want to lose that feature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically, my HP DV6-3065EA running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) laptop died. I went into a computer shop and asked how much a simple diagnostic test would be to find out how much a repair would be. He quoted me 90. Phew, jog on! That wasn't going to happen!Anyway, I decided to replace the power jack. No hard job, just a simple unplug and plug back in job. (looks abit like this Hp power jack image by chikyeung on Photobucket). I replaced it; everything is running fine. I tried to put a USB pen drive into a usb socket. Didn't work. Tried another, didn't work. I have tried several devices and they all work on other computers but don't seem to be working on mine. I have been trawling the internet for answers, and as of yet, nothing -.-! I wouldn't call myself a novice, trust me, I've tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling all of the USB drivers, checking bits of the registry.etc. Nothing. So today, i thought, right, WIPE THE COMPUTER! I backed up everything, went back to scratch.

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOver the past 2 years my PC has been afflicted with random power off/power on/reboot events. It will go for months without these and then have multiples of the events in a day. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws. The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.
