Set Custom Option For Power Button Action List Default?
Sep 28, 2011Is it possible to hack that button so you could, say, launch a special "locking" program instead of loggoff, shutdown, or any of the other options?

View 1 Repliesi've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally set my power button to "shut down" in the right click taskbar>properties>start menu>power button action
drop down menu. but now whether i choose switch user, sleep, hibernate, log off, it always shuts down. the button on my laptop is super sensitive and i just don't want it to power off anymore, i've accidentally hit it one too many times.
In my laptop existing OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
Hardware config is
HP i7 Quad processor 1.7 GHz.
4 GB DDR3 Ram,
500 GB HDD.
My system perf is slow. I installed few softwares. I have deselected most of the startup services and programs from msconfig. Eventhough my system bootup time is slow, and whenever i open mycomputer it taking time to load.
I have decided to install Windows 7 Enterprise Edition x64 by formatting my C drive. But there is no option while i do clean install.
I recently bought a dell N5030 that has windows 7 installed. The problem I am haveing is that when I go to download I get a error msg that says "error 2738. could not access VBScript runtime for custom action" I have not a clue what this means ? I had downloaded things before with no problem and dont know what or why this is coming up.

1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.
I'm looking for a software that can create one installer which can install a custom list of applications.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHUsually the first option at the top of the right-click menu is 'Open' but for some reason mine has 'cmd' at the top instead.Whenever I try to open file folders with just a click, the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
View 14 Replies View RelatedFor some reason it seems that autorun prompts are entirely disabled on my laptop, I'll put in a CD and nothing happens, I plug in a hard drive and nothing happens, etc. I don't get the options window like I did before I did a clean install.I even did a reset of the settings:And that didn't help. I set them all to "Ask me every time", but still, nothing.Once I GET autorun working, is there a way to add an option to the list of choices? I use Media Player Classic for video DVDs, and in XP I actually HAD that on the list - but for some reason it's not there anymore. It just has WMP, VLC, and a couple other ripping programs I have installed. I want to have the option to play my DVDs with MPC - right now I have to keep manually opening MPC and doing it.

Is there a way to fully display my installed programs w/o scrolling in such a small window above the start button? Have I asked this clearly? LOL. Sometimes, I may not iterate what I am trying to ask.
I've searched the tutorials and the forum and couldn't find anything on the following, Is there a way set a schedule for sleep mode? I would like my system to go to sleep at 11:00PM and awaken at 6:45AM 7 days a week. If so, how is it done?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently building a custom desktop (Specifications in My System Specs) and I've run into a few problems along the way:
- When I first put it all together and powered it up, the edge of the motherboard literally caught on fire for a second and I immeadiately turned the power off.
- I returned the motherboard and the psu and got both brand new again.
- I just tried to reinstall the motherboard and psu and now I get no power at all to the pc.
- I checked all connectors to make sure they were plugged in tightly and correctly. Everything looked fine. The 12V atx power connector and 24-pin connector were both plugged in correctly.
- I checked the psu with a paper clip and checked the voltage of each pin that should have been outputting voltage. Everything was fine there. And the psu powered up and the fans turned as soon as I pressed the switch.
- Checked for bad heads on the motherboard. None.
- I also went through all of these steps already: PERFORM THESE STEPS before posting about POST/boot/no video problems! - New-System-Build - Homebuilt-Systems

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with the OEM folder used for custom branded OEM installs. I've figured out how to set the OEM info and add custom wallpapers and screen savers to the install media. What I haven't figured out is how you actually set the default wallpaper or screen saver during the install? If someone knows where the info is stored in the registry I can probably do it with a reg file like I do the OEM info displayed on the system screen. I've been testing by installing from a USB thumb drive. Once I have everything the way I want it I'll burn a DVD of the final version.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am seriously at my limit spent 3 days I still cant figure it out, done probably 100 reboots. Contacted ASUS Support they are useless still in contact with them in troubleshooting this matter.
This is my issue.
When I hit the Power Button my screen goes black, before a bios revision it would just reboot my computer. YES I have set Power Options, Power Button to shut down computer.
I noticed I am missing a Sleep Button Action as its not in my menus. Maybe this could be a leading reason why this is happening? Anyone know how to get this option to show up?
I have used another computer cases front panel and same issue occurs so it cannot be my front panel.
I have a gut feeling the OS ACPI is completely being ignored when it comes to what the Power Button should do, if I set it to Sleep/Hibernate/Shut Down SAME thing still occurs.
I have got the Power Button to work successfully maybe 8 times out of the 100. It actually Logged off, Saved Settings and Turned of Computer as what I am trying to get it to do.
I have reinstalled the ACPI driver from ASUS but nothing changed. Have the latest BIOS Revision as well. I have removed battery and cleared CMOS as well. Also loaded default BIOS settings.
My System:
HAF 922
Phenom II 955
M4A79XTD EVO AM3
G Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600
750GB WD Black Cavier
1TB Green Cavier
320GB Cavier
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (Maybe can use ACPI I think dont know if it can conflict?)
Weird thing, guy at ASUS told me to set it to "S1 Only" in BIOS and it actually worked twice, third time I hit the power button it went back to same behavior.
I noticed my chances are higher for it to turn off properly when the power options advanced settings window is open for some reason.
I hope someone knows how to fix this.
