i have 2 23 inch acer screen. one hdmi and one vga..i have the "turn off display" set for 15 mins but it seems the hdmi (which is the main display) only turns off as the second screen stays on.i know i can just turn off the second display with WinKey and P but sometimes i have to rush out and have work up on both screens
View 9 RepliesOn my primary monitor I've run a 360 and my Windows 7 p.c into it. I've set up a shortcut hotkey so that I can disable the primary to swap to the 360 when needs be. However I'd like to be able to access the web whilst using my 360 without having to cycle through the monitor menu to swap back. So I got my old monitor on my desk, however I can't think what to do with it. It's got a lower resolution than my primary so simply making it the secondary whenever I want to use the 360 isn't viable (it messes up the icons).
I can't think of any work around, using ultramon and shrinking the main image isn't very good either due to it having both delay and a lower framerate even at the the highest systme usage settings. Can you guys think of any work arounds? I've tried saving the icon positions but then firefox still opens in the main monitor. I really would like to swap monitors on the fly with a hotkey and restore icons later.
I recently installed two 1920x1080 monitors onto my Win 7 RC 7100. I have them running through DVI out of my 1g NVidia 9800GT. Everything looks and works great, until i try to run MC on one monitor while i play around on the other.
First MC doesnt like 2 monitors so i have to use the windows key to make it lose focus if its in full screen. Even if i use windowed mode eventually it will eventually lock up must be restarted.
Has anyone else worked with MC on a dual screen setup?

I am using a java based application with alot of text (only allowed on set of the text) The size difference is like this ---- on monitor this size ---- the other this size.
I have tried mucking around with the resolution it makes the situation worse.
I am working in an office that uses dual screens to view stocks and things. When the users hit PrtSc, the system prints BOTH screens. I thought there was a hotkey that allows printing of the "active" screen only. The users are not in a position to paste things to the clipboard or snip. They just need a quick print of their ACTIVE screen.

I'm using a dual monitor setup with a philips 170B running at 1280x1024 and a LG W2253 wide running at 1920x1080. The problem is whatever I try to do, the screens wont be placed in a straight line, fitting exactly on the same size. Some small portion of the LG will be outsite of the other screens limits, making windows uneven, etc. Back in Windows xp I never had this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

There is a warning that basically tells me to check the Group Policy settings. Note 1: I can change all other power configuration options apart from this one Note 2: This happens on all 4 Windows 7 machines in my network (private home) Note 3:I run SBS 2003 and have a domain. I am pretty sure that there is no Group Policy that can be set to prevent a user from changing the sleep valueI have looked and none of the policies are even close. All polices that have anything to do with power configuration are undefined. Note 4: I have checked the group policy settings on the computers and no, I can't find a policy that would prevent anyone from changing the sleep timer. Note 5: Yes, of course I have admin rights on the computer.

I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a separate partiton and installed Win 7 fine. It dual booted fine as well. I then renamed the old XP boot partition and this caused the PC to give NTLDR missing and wouldnt boot.
So I reinstalled Win 7 as a custom install and it all boots fine into Win 7 without providing me a dual boot option. I am not too concerned about this as eventually I was going to go completely over to Win 7 anyway
Question I have is
1) The old Win XP boot partition is viewable in explorer. Can I just reformat this and reclaim the space - I want to make sure that the PC is not looking for any files in that old partition
2) Can I delete the Windows.old folder as well
I've installed 64bit win 7 on a 2nd partion of my main drive running vista 64bit. The installation all went smoothly and loaded into win 7.
But when restarted I did't get a windows boot manager screen so i could pick if I wish to load Vista or Windows 7, instead my system just loads straight into Vista.
Do I have to enable my system to be able to see the Windows 7 install?

i have done a memtest and it was successful without fail also this is the 3rd time I have done a clean install before was cause of ntoskrnl.exe so did a clean install now its cause of win32k.sys?

I have a problem with Windows 7 and my dual monitors setup. I have 2 SyncMaster 245T monitors, connected via DVI cable to a NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX card. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia for the card, but I am experiencing a fairly regular issue with regards to running Dual monitor setup.
When ever the system goes in to sleep/hivernation mode for more than a few minutes, upon restarting, the second monitor is no longer on. I have to physically go into settings and extend my monitor again. Simply rebooting the computer reboots it back up on only the one monitor. I have noticed twice now that this also has occurred when the computer went into screen saver mode too.
Additionally a freakish thing I found happens when I was trying to isolate the trigger of this problem is that, when I turn off the power to the 2 monitor (Not mains, just the switch on the second monitor. So mains power is still supplied) windows 7 has a major hissy fit.
It repeatedly sound the audio cue for disconnecting hardware, while the one monitor left on, constantly flickers, in what seams an attempt to return to one monitor. Only returning the monitor back on would stop the unsuccessfully attempt to return to the one monitor.
I have tried to look for anyone else with similar problems on the net, and apologize if a similar problem has already been posted here, but my search revealed nothing. I was wondering if anyone knew of a fix, or has had similar issue that they resolved.
When my computer wouldn't turn on in the morning I did the usual diagnostics; unplug things one at time test with spare components etc... Any way I qucikly figured out the PSU was dead so I ordered a new one and was back up and running. However when I reassembled the computer after unplugging everything (and removing the m/b) I plugged the HDDs back into different SATA ports from which they orginally came. When I came to boot the computer up I got the error message: 'BOOTMGR missing' or it may have been 'NTLDR missing' I can't remember.
I fixed this problem by using the 7 startup repair utility. I have no problem booting into Windows 7, but I have lost the option to boot into my XP install on anther disk. I looked in the boot tab under System Configuration and the only OS showing is this Windows 7 install. So my question is this: how can I get the choice of which OS to boot back?
(I should mention that the XP install is on a different disk from the 7 install).

My system perf is slow. I installed few softwares. I have deselected most of the startup services and programs from msconfig. Eventhough my system bootup time is slow, and whenever i open mycomputer it taking time to load.
I have decided to install Windows 7 Enterprise Edition x64 by formatting my C drive. But there is no option while i do clean install.
Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently run Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 8gig ram, intel i7-2600k cpu, and my OS runs on an OCZ SSD (all specs are in my profile)Sleep mode is set to S3 in BIOS, I have hibernation disabled (so no hibernation.sys file on my c drive)When I put my computer to sleep then immediately wake it up, the login screen shows instantly, I type in my pass and it loads in like 0.5 seconds.When I put my computer to sleep but wait for around 1-2 hrs before waking it, it shows the login screen instantly but after i hit login, it gives me the Welcome spinning circle thingy for like 20 seconds before I can see my desktop. That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since we've got this desktop we seem to have problems with the screens. It's like it randomly chooses different worlds to reside in. We turn on our computer and then it's just our background picture with no taskbar or programs, but if we just turn the monitor off and then on again it goes back to our regular screen. Then once our screensaver picks up and we decide to get back on, it does it again and so on. Sometimes when we minimize things it disappears off into those other worlds (off to the right side of the computer screen somewhere). Does anyone have any clue as to why this is going on? Is there a way to delete those other "worlds" that my computer visits every so often and that all my stuff likes to travel to?

Stay with me I have 2 Hanns G 23" monitors and a HP 24", I would like the HP to be the centre one, in which I do most of my work, the other 2 which I hope can be left and right of centre, going with the graphics card at the moment, I have screen (1) and screen (2) it was simple setup, but I have to push my mouse to the right to get into my 2nd screen thats sits on my left, ok I could place this screen on my right, it's not the point, when I get the 3rd screen will I have the flexibility to make the centre screen i.e the one that will hold my icons etc number 1 screen, then in a perfect world push the mouse to the right and I am in the RH screen, or push the mouse to the left (from centre screen) and I am in the LH screen?
