What I would like to do is set up Task Scheduler to perform a regiment of consecutive routine maintenance after a set amount of idle time and then automatically shutdown when that is completed.For instance, would it be possible to set up Task Scheduler to, after a certain amount of idle time, consecutively run CCleaner>Malwarebytes>NOD32> and then perform Automatic Shutdown?

Some weeks ago my desktop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit) started crashing sometimes, mostly when I put it into suspend mode. It could generally be restarted by powering up again, sometimes a couple of times. I didn't do anything unusual at the time such as major new hardware or programs.Now the problem is systematic and I can't really boot anymore in normal mode. Windows 7 hangs on the screen with the four-colored animated window early in the process.I've tried: * The auto-repair option when booting. This reports an error for which no solution is known:
StartupRepairOffline
1 6.1.7600.16385
2 same number
3 unknown
[code]...
* The repair tools on my Windows 7 installation disc. Again no joy.
* Re-installing Windows 7. I did this as an "upgrade", not as a completely fresh install, as I couldn't face re-installing programs and getting user data off and on. The re-install itself did seem to finish. But every time the computer had to be restarted it would freeze. I then turned it off and on manually, and it continued as expected.
* sfc /scannow
* Memory test
* Booting with a protocol file (F8, ntbtlog.txt).
* Fixing the master boot record.
I've not tried restoring to my only system image (9 months old), as I thought this cannot be better than re-installing Windows 7 while keeping the programs and user data ("upgrade"). I did make a Windows Easy Transfer copy of the user files one time when I managed to boot for some reason, so I'm not violently opposed to trying this if there's a good reason.I can start in safe mode. I think the attached protocol file shows two boots: First a regular one which fails, and then a safe mode which doesn't load a lot of stuff but which succeeds. In the first, regular boot there are a couple of drivers that don't load.

So, I've been having a bunch of problems with BSODs lately and I've been struggling to find the cause because even after disabling automatic restart in the system properties, the damn thing still restarts. All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.

I have used a power option to hibernate/shutdown my desktop after (say) 2 hours. This works correctly so that the system does not shutdown automatically when I am running interactive applications. At least one scheduled weekly task (McAfee virus scan) can take many hours and I normally run it overnight. But when it is the only task running, the PC hibernates (apparently after the prescribed interval) even though the application is still running.
I do not want to change my power settings to prevent automatic hibernation completely or to lengthen the interval meaninglessly. So: Is there any other way to ensure that the virus scan is allowed to complete before the system hibernates? During a scheduled scan, McAfee has an option to run "in the background". Would cancelling that option have the desired effect?

As the title states, each time I reboot my PC it will not automatically connect to my router unless I manually input the password. When I goto the connection propeties and view the password that`s saved it`s only saved the numeric portion of the wireless password. For example, if my wireless password is love123 upon reboot it only states 123 in the wireless connection properties. I tried going into the wireless and network sharing screen then manage wireless connections and completely removing and reentering the wireless connection/password but the same issue persists.

I have a problem that occurs only during shut down only. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

i have windows seven ultimate running on a machine just fine for about half a year. after installing some piece of software related to android rooting, i found myself unable to do anything on the computer, as launch windows explorer, restart shutdown, start any other program, as this error appears:windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.watch this: windows 7 error: you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item - Internet i rebooted by power cycle into safe mode. there i didn't encountered any problems, i was able to start programs, i uninstalled the latest software i installed before this problem, but this didn't solved the problem.also, while in safe mode, i created another admin user but is behaves the same way as the original user i have on this machine.

I have tried diagnostic tests on my hardware (HDD, RAM, CPU, MB) and all have passed. Neither has there been any voltage fluctuations or any type of physical damage to my computer hardware

I just built a new system today, and I have been running into some significant issues whenever I try to reboot. Basically, the system hangs up on the Starting Windows screen at the exact same instance whenever I reboot. This has been happening since I installed Windows 7 64-bit edition. After I booted and installed off of the installation DVD, it froze up on the first restart. I then tried to install Windows again. That worked, but it then again froze on the first reboot. I then had to manually shut down the pc and start it up again. Fortunately, it picked up where I left off and finished the Windows 7 install.After I installed Windows 7, I have had no problems whatsoever expect for when I restart, as the system freezes at the point specified on the image above. However, if I shut down my computer and then start it up, everything loads fine.
Here are my specs:
AMD Phenom II Black Edition dual core 3.2 ghz CPU (all four cores unlocked, overclocked at 3.8 ghz)
HIS Radeon HD 4670 GPU
BIOSTAR T A870+ mobo
Seagate Barracuda SATA 7,200 RPM 1TB HD
4 gigs G.SKILL DDR3 240-pin RAM

2) Inserts into PCI-slot makes computer auto-start.
3) Windows does not auto install the card, but the drives on the CD works perfectly and the sound is fine. No problems in device manage.
4) But when I shutdown, the computer restats. Happens every time. Have to shutdown manually on the button.
5) Tried a different PCI-slot, but problem persists.
6) Tried temporarily removing the card and windows shuts down as intended.

My Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]

My wife's daughter has an HP Pavilion dm4-2070 notebook with Windows 7 Professional.It had been working properly, but for the past week it will not shut down when you select Shut down from the Start menu; instead it restarts. It also won't hibernate properly; after about 10 seconds it resumes. It does seem to sleep properly, for example, when you close the cover. And it will shut down if you press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.I see a lot of posts on other forums with similar problems, but few solutions that seem to work. I have tried many of the suggestions (checking the shutdown and power settings, ensuring the network adapters can't wake up the computer, running SFC, updating the BIOS to the

I've got my system configured via gpedit so that it runs a custom batch script when it shuts down. The script can take about a minute to complete because it is telling some external hardware to run through its power down procedure. However when I tell the system to _reboot_ the script still runs and then when the system starts back up it has to run the startup script to power the hardware back up again.
Therefore I wondered if there is a way to tell Windows not to run the script if the action is reboot, not shutdown, or can I get access to the action via some parameters that can be passed to my script?

When I do a "restart", on the computer screen I could see "log out", a few seconds later, "shutdown." At this point, the system stalls at "shutdown." I waiting for over 5 minutes, and it was still stalled at "shutdown." To continue working with my computer, at the ""Shut down stall", I remove the power cord from my computer. About a minute later, I reconnect my power cord and click the power button. After that there is no problem. Except when I do a "Restart."

This crash will happen many times in a row and then not at all for a week or two and then happen many times in a row.
