Routine Maintenance Followed By Automatic Shutdown?
Jan 27, 2013
What I would like to do is set up Task Scheduler to perform a regiment of consecutive routine maintenance after a set amount of idle time and then automatically shutdown when that is completed. For instance, would it be possible to set up Task Scheduler to, after a certain amount of idle time, consecutively run CCleaner>Malwarebytes>NOD32> and then perform Automatic Shutdown?
Sometimes my PC automatic restart. I never click restart button. Why is that? How do I overcome this matter? When windows starting it show "Windows is not shutdown correctly. Start normal screen. *Windows never show "Error message" in this process.
I have used a power option to hibernate/shutdown my desktop after (say) 2 hours. This works correctly so that the system does not shutdown automatically when I am running interactive applications. At least one scheduled weekly task (McAfee virus scan) can take many hours and I normally run it overnight. But when it is the only task running, the PC hibernates (apparently after the prescribed interval) even though the application is still running.
I do not want to change my power settings to prevent automatic hibernation completely or to lengthen the interval meaninglessly. So: Is there any other way to ensure that the virus scan is allowed to complete before the system hibernates? During a scheduled scan, McAfee has an option to run "in the background". Would cancelling that option have the desired effect?
Is it possible to schedule my computer to shut-down and re-boot into Windows 7 on a regular basis every 15 days without me being there to actually do this?I have two security cameras connected to my computer which record continuously. The problem is that after 15 days the software stops recording from the cameras and I have to re-start the software again to start recording. My problem is that I do not have a keyboard, mouse or monitor attached to the computer, and if I want to start recording again then I have to go through all the faff of carrying my monitor around the house to connect to this computer.I would be most grateful for any advice on how I can get my computer to shut down and re-boot itself again without me involved in the process. That way I can sidestep the inherent software problem of stopping recording every 15 days.
I apologize in advance if my post is missing any information; I attempted to follow the directions for properly posting but while I'm am computer functional, I'm not overly computer literate. [code] The system constantly crashes when playing video games and games consistently lag. We have completely re-installed the OS and replaced all parts in the PC at least twice. When the system crashes the speakers buzz loudly, although sometimes it sounds like it's coming from the computer itself. We switched from Nvidia because everything has checked out and it was hoped that the problem was the hardware not playing nice to no avail. I'm still getting the same error/crash. i just bought a new comp and am trying to use system mechanic/one click cleanup software that i had previously bought and an error comes up saying "system maintenance software has stopped working".application will exit and windows will search for a resolution and let me know when one is available. Does any one know what could be the problem?.
Is it better to have all such programs installed in the Program Files on Drive C, does the installation being there have any positive effect on the program? Or will the program be the same if I were to install it onto my second SSD?
I've already ordered a new drive to replace my Samsung PATA, because the last time that I tried to use it, it made a peculiar buzzing noise for several seconds as it spun up, and when I removed the disc, I found two circular scratches very near the hub. The only thing that I can think of that would cause these would be the lens coming into contact with the disc, which I doubt that there is anything that can be done about .However, since I'm one of those people that finds it difficult to just toss things into the dumpster, I'm wondering if there is any practical means to remedy it's ills? Even if there was, I would only keep it as a spare, because I dislike it's performance compared to a SATA.
I tried to reload the original factory format using f8/alt (due to virus). When it rebooted it went to "emachines recovery maintenance" window and inside the window said "please wait a moment". I went back several hours later and it still had the same message. I then purchased the reformat software from emachines website. I put the system disk software in the dvd drive and rebooted the system, hit f12 on the splash screen and it still gives me the same window and message. Is my hard drive fried or is there something else I can do to correct?
I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)
I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.
Im not sure if this is in the right category, but I think it could be Windows 7 related. My Powersupply died the other day so I purchased a new one and all was fine, except when I shutdown it either freezes or carries on for what seems like forever. The only thing is that on bootup my DVD Drive and SSD have changed ports so my dvd drive is now device00 and my SSD001.
Is there any way to make Windows, Norton, McAfee, VAIO, or any other software actually download their updates during Hughes Nets 2-7 AM Download Zone, with out actually staying up and manually checking for updates? Maybe some way to have my net book access my wireless network at that time? Hughes Net down load manager is ok for files I find on the internet, but has no way of controlling auto updates.
I bought a 1 TB western digital external hard drive to use as a backup. I created a disc image of my computer but I am wondering if there is software that will create a daily backup by checking for any files that are different so that it does not have to make a new disc image daily. I plan on leaving my regular computer and this backup drive always on. Is this possible and what software is recommended?
Just like Vista, I cannot seem to find any way to stop the automatic driver installation. I love how when I uninstall a driver/device in XP, on reboot it pops up asking me what to do. Vista and 7 on the other hand, take it upon themselves to reinstall Microsoft drivers on reboot no matter what I do.
I've searched online and yielded no results, and searched here and didn't find anything either (Key words yield many results). Ideally I would prefer Vista/7 to just IGNORE the new device, so I can install the new one/update it myself. But if that can't be done, I'd at least like to be able to STOP the automatic driver installation.
Theres gotta be some way, even if I have to edit something or add registry keys, I just want to stop the automatic microsoft driver installation.
Cannot find Automatic Log On on Windows 7 to uncheck it so machine will automatically go into desktop. We are on a network, but was able to do this on XP, but I have looked at all the discussions, printed them out and I just do not get that automatic at the top of the users tab that says Users must enter a user name and...and user is also Administrator.
I'm finding in Windows 7 that when I do things like delete files, after the deletion is complete, the Explorer file window doesn't automatically refresh.
any way to set it to automatically refresh or is it a feature of Windows 7?
Few days ago my user account started to automatically logon. Before that I didn't have password, but I had to click on my username to start. I didn't change anything, or at least I didn't intentionally. When I go to netplwiz, option "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" is checked, so I don't no what else should I do to disable automatic logon.
I have RC 7100x64 connected (per cat cable) to a wireless router. Windows 7 created a home network. Router is perfectly fine and my 2 laptops automatically login into the internet. In the beginning my despktop also jsut was able to be online after booting up.
At some point (I did all updates, installed all my software) the PC does not connect to the internet anymore. Tehonly way to get online is to:
- open Network Center
- leftclick "Connections: local area connection" --> disable
- go to trouble shoot problems
- then it finds " the local area network adapter is disabled"
- I click " fix it" and it will work.
I attached the screens
How can I make it connect automatically (as it did before)? I set all services I could think of to " automatic" (IP Helper etc.). From researching I read that XP had a similar problem with SP3. not sure if it is related, but coudl an update be at fault?
Everything is up to date, Kasperksy keeps viruses away, I did not do one of the registry-cleaner tools.
Since it worked at first, one of my isntallations or updates must have done it. I also did some of the "service optimizations" from here bu tundid all of them to resolve my problem.
One could say I should isntall a newer built, but first I just want to use it before I buy the real deal in October. Second, it used to work with RC 7100 and going through all the trouble reinstalling is a hassle.
I am wondering is there a way to have an automatic boot process run?Example: I work and get home at around 5:30-6:00 PM, I would like my PC to boot at 5:00 PM.If there is a way to do it great, if there isnt, no great loss.
I have an Asus x83v laptop and recently upgraded from vista to 7. On vista when I plugged in the hdmi cable the audio and video would automatically go through the tv and back through the pc when unplugged (video would be displayed on both when plugged in). Now since I installed windows 7 only the video goes through automatically and the audio stays on the pc speakers unless i manually change the tv speakers to default in the control panel. How do I set it up to change automatically like it did in vista?
I was curious if there was some sort of RELIABLE software that could scan my system and detect if I have out of date drivers. I see a lot of gimmicky programs advertising this capabilty, but I don't want it to be bs and my system just get all out of whack.
