Way To Disable Automatic Logon
Mar 19, 2011
Few days ago my user account started to automatically logon. Before that I didn't have password, but I had to click on my username to start. I didn't change anything, or at least I didn't intentionally. When I go to netplwiz, option "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" is checked, so I don't no what else should I do to disable automatic logon.

Is there anyway to schedule an automatic logon for a certain time of day in Windows 7? I would like to schedule my computer to start up, login, run backup, and shutdown in the middle of the night once a month. So far, I know how to schedule a power-on using the BIOS, but I don't think backup will run if you're not logged in. I don't want to bypass the password protection all together....just when I want an automatic backup.

I love the windows auto arrangement function when moved to the edge of the screen, however there is one that is very annoying, that is bottom edge. I have one of my monitor in portrait mode, and sometimes I want to view two windows, one on the top and the other on the bottom. But I can not cover the all the area down the bottom because once I go near the bottom edge, Windows maximizes it. Now I know in the "Make the mouse easier to use" page, I can "prevent" it all, but I just want to disable the bottom edge and leave the top, left and right edge as the way they are. How can I do that?

I'm talking about search function by using windows explorer's search box.By default search in windows explorer begins as you type - it doesn't wait you to finish typing. I hate that and I want to begin search only when I want that (when finished typing the whole string) - by pushing search lens button on the right for example.

I often change power plan or (dis)connect the power cord depending on what I do with my laptop and where I am. Every time I do so, the display brightness changes into whatever it was last time I had the same power plan and AC power status. The display brightness has nothing to do with those settings. I adjust it manually to what I feel comfortable with in the current environment, and it's frustrating having it changed by some automatic setting that gets it wrong every time.I'm in a dark room, getting ready to watch a movie or something, everything set perfectly. Oh right, the power cord. Boom, instant 20% to 100% flash that kills my eyes. How do I disable this automatic adjusting and get full control over the brightness?

I wonder if it's possible to disable automatic restore point creation, and ONLY have Windows 7 store on demand system restore points that I choose to manually create at my convenience. If I go to Administrative Tools/Task Scheduler/System Restore I find two schedule triggers. Will disabling those triggers achieve this? Will my restore points be deleted if I do this or just the schedule

I've been hassling with a new Windows 7 laptop for weeks now. The external mic and line in was not working. Dell finally told me to go back to factory settings. After I did that today, I tried to tweak all the settings back to how I want them, but I'm stumped by the annoying message on startup that announces that I'm not connected, and that there must be something wrong. I got rid of it when I first got the computer, but now it shows me the weather and (wrong) time, which I don't remember from last time.I managed to make this message disappear when I first got this computer, but now I can't figure out how to do that. I think it may have something to do with automatic updates of some program. Does anyone know how to stop Windows from trying to automatically connect?
I suspect that this may also be interfering with Skype logging in. I read on the Skype support site that automatically updating programs could impact Skype. At this point it just keeps trying to log in, but just hangs there forever. I just used it yesterday without any trouble before I reinstalled, so I assume some setting needs tweaking on the reinstall.

How to disable automatic ALT button clicks in every application? Lets say if I have opened the MS word application - When kept idle or composing any matter automatically the control goes to "ALT" button which displays the File menu details. This happens on any application for example while watching a video or typing the emails. When I timed it, exactly every minute this automatic click happens. How to disable this?

his morning when I booted my computer, I was asked to change my password because it will expire in 14 days. My husband and I are the only users on this computer and we have never, in the past, setup a password and have never had to type in a password to logon. If I ignore the message I can continue to logon to Windows. Why am I suddenly getting this message? How do I disable this, before the 14 days are up?

We have just been sent a free computer for our office. A Windows 7 HP 32bit.We can login locally i think to a local user KB_SUF/User (where KB_SUF is the name of the computer)however whenever the UAC comes up when installing anything, we cannot proceed because it keeps saying "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request" The thing is they sent us the computer without removing it from the domain Now I cant install the programs i need to work and it doesnt seem like theres a local admin on this computer. I tried removing this computer from the domain but it requires going through UAC.Is there any way to make this computer a Local only PC?The company that sent us the computer is in another country and they say they can send someone over in 6 months which is longer than i can wait.

Is there any way to make Windows, Norton, McAfee, VAIO, or any other software actually download their updates during Hughes Nets 2-7 AM Download Zone, with out actually staying up and manually checking for updates? Maybe some way to have my net book access my wireless network at that time? Hughes Net down load manager is ok for files I find on the internet, but has no way of controlling auto updates.

I bought a 1 TB western digital external hard drive to use as a backup. I created a disc image of my computer but I am wondering if there is software that will create a daily backup by checking for any files that are different so that it does not have to make a new disc image daily. I plan on leaving my regular computer and this backup drive always on. Is this possible and what software is recommended?

Just like Vista, I cannot seem to find any way to stop the automatic driver installation. I love how when I uninstall a driver/device in XP, on reboot it pops up asking me what to do. Vista and 7 on the other hand, take it upon themselves to reinstall Microsoft drivers on reboot no matter what I do.
I've searched online and yielded no results, and searched here and didn't find anything either (Key words yield many results). Ideally I would prefer Vista/7 to just IGNORE the new device, so I can install the new one/update it myself. But if that can't be done, I'd at least like to be able to STOP the automatic driver installation.
Theres gotta be some way, even if I have to edit something or add registry keys, I just want to stop the automatic microsoft driver installation.

I have RC 7100x64 connected (per cat cable) to a wireless router. Windows 7 created a home network. Router is perfectly fine and my 2 laptops automatically login into the internet. In the beginning my despktop also jsut was able to be online after booting up.
At some point (I did all updates, installed all my software) the PC does not connect to the internet anymore. Tehonly way to get online is to:
- open Network Center
- leftclick "Connections: local area connection" --> disable
- go to trouble shoot problems
- then it finds " the local area network adapter is disabled"
- I click " fix it" and it will work.
I attached the screens
How can I make it connect automatically (as it did before)? I set all services I could think of to " automatic" (IP Helper etc.). From researching I read that XP had a similar problem with SP3. not sure if it is related, but coudl an update be at fault?
Everything is up to date, Kasperksy keeps viruses away, I did not do one of the registry-cleaner tools.
Since it worked at first, one of my isntallations or updates must have done it. I also did some of the "service optimizations" from here bu tundid all of them to resolve my problem.
One could say I should isntall a newer built, but first I just want to use it before I buy the real deal in October. Second, it used to work with RC 7100 and going through all the trouble reinstalling is a hassle.
Everything else works well.

I have an Asus x83v laptop and recently upgraded from vista to 7. On vista when I plugged in the hdmi cable the audio and video would automatically go through the tv and back through the pc when unplugged (video would be displayed on both when plugged in). Now since I installed windows 7 only the video goes through automatically and the audio stays on the pc speakers unless i manually change the tv speakers to default in the control panel. How do I set it up to change automatically like it did in vista?

I am building a HTPC and using XBMC to access all my media. I am trying to set it up so that XBMC automatically starts when the PC turns on. I am using Eventghost for this. XBMC has some great wiki's on how to do this, but all of them assume you want XBMC to boot as a shell and not boot explorer. In the future I may want to do this, but right now I am still in the design/set up stage and want explorer to run so I can go back and forth between it and XBMC.My problem is arriving when Eventghost tries to launch XBMC. I need to provide permission for it to run under an admin to make changes to my pc.I want to grant this automatically.I know I can lower my security settings for all programs, but I don't want to do that. I just want to allow XBMC to launch with admin permissions.I already have the "run as administer" box checked. My security is set to high so it still asks me. How can I change this so that XBMC will launch with admin permissions without having to grant it each time yet retain the security settings I have?
