View 6 Replies View RelatedSome weeks ago my desktop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit) started crashing sometimes, mostly when I put it into suspend mode. It could generally be restarted by powering up again, sometimes a couple of times. I didn't do anything unusual at the time such as major new hardware or programs.Now the problem is systematic and I can't really boot anymore in normal mode. Windows 7 hangs on the screen with the four-colored animated window early in the process.I've tried: * The auto-repair option when booting. This reports an error for which no solution is known:
StartupRepairOffline
1 6.1.7600.16385
2 same number
3 unknown
[code]...
* The repair tools on my Windows 7 installation disc. Again no joy.
* Re-installing Windows 7. I did this as an "upgrade", not as a completely fresh install, as I couldn't face re-installing programs and getting user data off and on. The re-install itself did seem to finish. But every time the computer had to be restarted it would freeze. I then turned it off and on manually, and it continued as expected.
* sfc /scannow
* Memory test
* Booting with a protocol file (F8, ntbtlog.txt).
* Fixing the master boot record.
I've not tried restoring to my only system image (9 months old), as I thought this cannot be better than re-installing Windows 7 while keeping the programs and user data ("upgrade"). I did make a Windows Easy Transfer copy of the user files one time when I managed to boot for some reason, so I'm not violently opposed to trying this if there's a good reason.I can start in safe mode. I think the attached protocol file shows two boots: First a regular one which fails, and then a safe mode which doesn't load a lot of stuff but which succeeds. In the first, regular boot there are a couple of drivers that don't load.
i just restored to a disk image i recently backed up. When it was done i tried to boot my system and it automatically booted to the dell diagnostics. why is that? i can't seem to find a way to boot to my system.

Now I have been diagnosing my pc for some time now the latest problem has been automatic restarts very frequently. This problem raised while I was reinstalling the thermal paste of my gpu and fan. It did go well and the temps dropped to 45 c in idle but a new problem started, reboots. I tried these things till now:
- Clean boot
- Safe mode works fine (mostly)
- Run it with 1 stick and 2 sticks of ram
- Resetting the bios
- Start up repairs
For the moment, safe mode is working but normal mode wont start. As the windows logo comes, it shuts down altogether and restarts again and so on. I tried disabling automatic restart and got a bsod once.
Error was : 0x0bad0020
I've always wondered if running a manual automatic update (XP, Vista, 7) while you have auto updates turned on would slow things down? Often times I'm updating manually and then the icon pops up saying it is downloading or there are updates ready. Does Windows Update detect if there's already an update going or will it re-download the entire update?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past month, every time windows update automatically reboots my computer to finish the updating process, the computer shuts down, fades to black, but then something curious happens. Instead of the BIOS coming up, the screen remains black, and every single fan in my system (GPU, CPU, and 3 other case fans) spin up to full speed and remain there, with the pc never rebooting. I thought this was a BIOS issue, so I updated my BIOS, but this did not fix the issue. All my drivers are updated, and there are no yellow exclamation marks beside any items in Device Manager. My system is running 64 Bit Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1.
