Startup time seems normal.I have now licensed kaspersky Internet Security and Comodo free Firewall (Does this affect?)The operating system updates have automatically installing since the beginning of my use.Most of my use is surfing the Internet and web design programs.Asus A52F with 3gb memory.

May 30, 2012I have a process that is always running on my PC (Win7 sp1) that I can shutdown gracefully anytime and will also shutdown gracefully when the computer is restarted or shutdown if only it is given enough time. I'd like to add a little time (maybe 20 seconds) between the time the computer sends the shutdown command to all open processes and the time it sends the kill now command to any processes that are left open.If my process shuts down gracefully it restarts in about 5 seconds, but when it shuts down ungracefully it takes about 10 minutes.

Jul 3, 2012Windows 7 Professional: I think the shutdown button should have a confirmation prompt with a delay, whether on the Sign on page or the Start menu to allow for recovery when inadvertently clicking it. I know I can create my own shutdown, sleep, etc. but that does not resolve the issue, unless the shutdown buttons are disabled on the sign on page and the Start menu. If that cannot be realized the next solution is to make sure the shutdown button is set to other than shutdown by default(yes, it will not say shutdown then, maybe 'sleep') and shutdown is in the sub-menu instead. 'Lock' is not an option as some had suggested, unless it can be swapped with the 'shutdown'. I now found out they can be swapped... but it is misleading, because I thought the Power Button is the physical button on the hardware... thus when I press it now it will cause a lock?!

Dec 6, 2012I have used a power option to hibernate/shutdown my desktop after (say) 2 hours. This works correctly so that the system does not shutdown automatically when I am running interactive applications. At least one scheduled weekly task (McAfee virus scan) can take many hours and I normally run it overnight. But when it is the only task running, the PC hibernates (apparently after the prescribed interval) even though the application is still running.
I do not want to change my power settings to prevent automatic hibernation completely or to lengthen the interval meaninglessly. So: Is there any other way to ensure that the virus scan is allowed to complete before the system hibernates? During a scheduled scan, McAfee has an option to run "in the background". Would cancelling that option have the desired effect?

Apr 16, 2012I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly.
