View 1 RepliesI have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

"On the computer from which you want to shut down the remote computer, open a command window ("cmd.exe" in the Search box). At the command prompt, type "shutdown /i"to display the Remote Shutdown dialog box. Where it says, "What do you want these computers to do?" select Shut down (or you can select Restart if you want it to restart). Type at least one character in the text box for a comment/reason. Click OK." When I tried the above, the "OK" in the dialogue was greyed.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe clock in the bottom right-hand corner was always incorrect. He could change the time, but once he shut the laptop down and turned it back on, the time was incorrect again. I did some research online and tried many things to fix the issue, none of them were successful. So, he has just been putting up with the clock always being wrong. Then the other day when he turned it on, it wouldn't even boot Windows, and just says "time of day clock stopped".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 7 64-bit ultimate using a clean install since i had windows xp. Everything installed ok. The problem I'm having is that when i shut down, it automatically restarts instead of shutting down. It runs through the BIOS and POSTS as if i restarted. There are no errors listed when it restarts. It's as if i pressed restart instead of shutdown. The only way i can turn off my computer is when i hold down my power button for 3 seconds.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Alienware m17x and it keeps shutting down randomly. I tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows just to be sure and reupdating all of the drivers to match my computer's needs. (via windows update and Driver Genius)It never shuts down randomly in safe mode though, so it tells me: (Correct me if I'm wrong)
1) It's not one of the absolutely critical files causing it, since the files/drivers work without shutting down in safe mode
2) It's not an overheating problem since it doesn't shut down randomly in safe mode
3) Probably not a problem with the battery, or else it would shut down in safe mode too. (Right?)
I still have a 1 year warrenty with Alienware/Dell but I'd rather not wait several weeks (send/receive, fix, send back which takes a while b/c shipping takes atleast a week each way) for them to receive it, fix it, and send it back. (I'd prefer to use that as a last resort because I use/need my computer daily)Dell does have a BIOS flasher for Alienware m17x which I have not tried yet?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]
View 4 Replies View RelatedNearly every time I shut down my computer it goes fine until reaching the ring that says shutting down then the ring freezes and nothing happens. I have to hard boot it every time. When i put it to sleep or hibernation similar thing happens: screen goes black, the hard drive is working, and then nothing changes, everything is still on hard drives and all. I leave it alone for awhile to see if that helps but nothing happens while i leave it. It happens 90% of the time. Computer specs are uploaded with the profile, on that computer icon.
