Startup Black Screen With Shutdown/Restart Button And Ease Of Access
Oct 23, 2012
I believe this problem was caused by CCleaner/Revouninstaller, that's the only thing that did changes to my system before this happens. I tried searching for solutions on Google, and I found this guy with the exact same problem.(url) (Screenshot provided by him, perhaps this can help better understand my problem) Tried System Repair/Restore and Safe Mode, none worked. I followed up with a " Last known good config " option, but the problem is still there.

Ease of Access Center - Add or Remove from Logon Screen.I search a long time for a solution to disable the "Ease of Access" Button on the login screen on Windows 7 _x86 and _x64. I found a solution, but this was only for the x86 version of Windows 7. If you use this version on a _x64 machine, the login screen remains black.Microsoft did not include the function to disable the "Ease of Access" button on the login screen and this can be very dangerous within a multi user environment. This button is hard coded within the login UI. Therefore no regkey or something else is available to disable it.Out of this case I patched the authui.dll. This dll is responsible for the login screen and the shitty button.I made two ready pachted dll files. One for the x86 and one for the x64 operating system of Windows 7. The version of the files are from the original Windows 7 DVD and the version Nr. of the dll's are: 6.1.7600.16385. You can use this files on every language version of Windows 7 because this files are language independent. What was made - if you want to do it with your files by yourself:
1. Download Resource Turner (the version 1.99 can only handle x86 files!) or use Restorator 2007 Patch
2. This version can handle both x86 and x64 files.Open it any you will see 4 entries within the UIFILE section.
3 xml files (12400, 12401, 12402) and 1 txt file (14000)

I am seriously at my limit spent 3 days I still cant figure it out, done probably 100 reboots. Contacted ASUS Support they are useless still in contact with them in troubleshooting this matter.
This is my issue.
When I hit the Power Button my screen goes black, before a bios revision it would just reboot my computer. YES I have set Power Options, Power Button to shut down computer.
I noticed I am missing a Sleep Button Action as its not in my menus. Maybe this could be a leading reason why this is happening? Anyone know how to get this option to show up?
I have used another computer cases front panel and same issue occurs so it cannot be my front panel.
I have a gut feeling the OS ACPI is completely being ignored when it comes to what the Power Button should do, if I set it to Sleep/Hibernate/Shut Down SAME thing still occurs.
I have got the Power Button to work successfully maybe 8 times out of the 100. It actually Logged off, Saved Settings and Turned of Computer as what I am trying to get it to do.
I have reinstalled the ACPI driver from ASUS but nothing changed. Have the latest BIOS Revision as well. I have removed battery and cleared CMOS as well. Also loaded default BIOS settings.
My System:
HAF 922
Phenom II 955
M4A79XTD EVO AM3
G Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600
750GB WD Black Cavier
1TB Green Cavier
320GB Cavier
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (Maybe can use ACPI I think dont know if it can conflict?)
Weird thing, guy at ASUS told me to set it to "S1 Only" in BIOS and it actually worked twice, third time I hit the power button it went back to same behavior.
I noticed my chances are higher for it to turn off properly when the power options advanced settings window is open for some reason.
I hope someone knows how to fix this.

A colleague at work has this really weird thing going when logging in to Windows 7 professional 64bit.While he is typing his password, a window from the ease of access center pops up uninvited. Also I'm interested in removing the ease of access button from the login screen altogether.I only found 1 thing on google about it, but only for removing the button, I found nothing about the popup.

I've found that when whenever I let my computer go to sleep, hibernate or restart it or shut it down then a blue screen will appear and restart the system. When the system comes to it will tell me the event name was Blue Screen and that the computer is recovering from a unexpected shutdown.I'm currently running my computer on the High Performance plan and not letting it go to any other mode?By the way, my system is a dual boot with Windows XP. XP is on my main drive and 7 is on my second drive.

Last night my husband used his acer laptop successfully. Today when he went to use it the browser was open as usual to the yahoo home page. He hit the refresh button and the screen went black and the spinning circle is all that shows. He tried rebooting it and again nothing happens.

When I shutdown, right near the end the screen goes black as one would expect and then for a fraction of a second I get BSOD and it will restart and let me know that it BSOD'ed. It's a new install of windows 7 on a new PC that is working well under stress testing. And i haven't messed with much but xbmc and some light overclocking without voltage changes. I've uninstalled anything recent and some tuners that the mobo manu had on their support page.

Setup (Windows 7 ultimate 64bit) went fine until its first restart, then it took 10 minutes or so from bios to black screen to login.
After login, everything is fine and smooth. Installed latest nvidia driver for 8800gt Windows 7 64bit, installed antivirus and spybot s&d. restarted.
Again with the 10-minute-black screen. I can't have this.
I have winxp 32bit on the same hard drive but different partition.
I use two monitors but tried using just one and still have the same problem.
I have updated my bios (gigabyte motherboard), still have the same problem.
What is causing this problem? I'm not willing to upgrade/downgrade/change video card, motherboard, cpu or hard drives. Does not make any sense. I only want to try Windows 7 since it's "faster" but I'm perfectly content with winxp sp3. Why is winxp not having this problem? geez.
Can anyone help or should I just give up on Windows 7?

When I booted up my desktop this morning I could not open any programs, search for files, or open any folders. This is the very first time that this has happened to me. I thought that maybe it was a bad boot, like it is most of time so I restarted my computer. Now my desktop screen is showing a totally black screen with only a cursor. I fear that this might mean that my hard drive is starting to fail. What should I do to get off this black screen? EDIT: The screen turned off as in the computer is no longer feeding it any video. This is usually the part before the computer boots back up but it has been at this screen for a good 4 minutes now. It usually takes 5 seconds.

Just purchased 2 new (refurb) PC's for my wife and I. It's all I could find with Windows 7 still available. They are both HP Pavilion p7-1233w 64 bit Desktops running Win 7 Home Premium SP1.During Windows setup of PC #1, it asked for a restart. When the PC powered back up, it had a black screen from the start (before the Post screen). I power cycled it several times with no luck. Even switched monitors and video cables. The next morning it started normally with perfect video.I assumed the Refurb PC had a problem and set it aside for return.Been setting up PC #2 for a few days now with lots of restarts. All was well, until I did a restart just now. There was the identical problem. Power cycled the unit twice, and still had the black screen. Then I unplugged the PC, and pressed the power button to discharge the capacitors (fans ran for a few seconds). When I returned power and started the PC again, it functioned normally. I've done 10 quick restarts since to try and replicate the problem, but it only happened that once.
I love these PC's, and I love Win 7, so I hate to give them up. But I don't want the video freezing up on me every time I do a restart. I assume now, that PC #1 is not necessarily defective.Since this is occurring before the post screen, I wasn't sure if it could be windows related.

All right so first I'll give some of the basic specs of my system. I have the following hardware:
Phenom II x4 955 CPU
ASRock 870 Extreme 3 motherboard
Corsair vengeance 8gb RAM
An 850 OCZ PSU
a HDRadeon 6870 GPU
and a basic optical drive
Also, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
A while ago, my brother was playing some hardcore HoN on my computer. When the game ended, the screen turned black and i was forced to restart the entire thing. I get past the windows logo just fine and even hear the "welcome" sound as the OS starts up. Then, nothing. The screen just turns black with nothing but the cursor. I am able to move it around and everything but cannot do anything. Ctrl-alt-del doesnt work either.
So, i restarted again and this time went into safe mode and tried to check things out. I updated my graphics drivers (which were in no need of an update) and then restarted it again. Still nothing! I tried this multiple times, uninstalling, reinstalling, took a break. When I came back, I decided to boot from the disc and start afresh. I went through the process of setting up the OS and all the motherboard drivers (and the GPU drivers)...
I was able to login and download firefox and a couple of other security programs. I thought I had done enough and windows needed to be restarted to finish its update so I decided to restart again... The same black screen with the cursor! I have tried everything I know and I don't want to be stuck in safe mode forever!

I have an HP pavilion laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium X64 - new install. The laptop has begun hanging with a black screen upon my request for it to shutdown, restart, boot, or anytime i attempt to run something which causes the windows 7 are you sure you want to allow changes to the computer message box. The only change made before this happened was a windows update. The problem started a few starts after this install. I have searched but most issues address a black screen with a completely unresponsive computer. Mine comes out of it within a minute or so.

I recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine. As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant firewire port I unhooked from the Mobo. I then booted and peformed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down. Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive.
I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processers and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates). Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down. One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting, just shutting down...

I'm using I have a DELL4500S desktop, on startup it will not go to the login screen, the screen is just black with the cursor showing. I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging everything and restarting it. Nothing is working. When it first starts a pop up shows and says "This Application has failed to start because SAMLIB.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."I'm not sure what it's talking about and what to re install and I can't reinstall whatever it is because I can't get to the start menu.

But when I restarted my computer, after the motherboard splash screen a black screen with a blinking cursor top left appears and windows doesn't boot. But sometimes, especially when I wait a few minutes to turn it on it boots normally till I shut it down. It is so random.

CPU: AMD phenom ii x6 1100t black edition 3 .3ghz

I recently was away for about a month and I did not use my desktop for that period of time. I tried turning it on yesterday and it would show the BIOS screen and then a black screen. It doesn't display anything else.I tried searching this problem and have tried various suggestions. I tried removing individual sticks of memory to see if it would fix anything. The motherboard keeps displaying FF, but one time it displayed 7F. I'm not sure if there is a problem with my video card or hard drive. I unplugged my video card and completely removed it and brushed dust off and plugged it back in, but that didn't fix it. Sometimes it flashes some text right after the BIOS screen, but it still just goes to black afterwards. What I think is my HDD light blinks sometimes and sometimes it doesn't light up at all. Could my hard drive have died?

I've recently encountered a problem with my 2 year old computer. Sometimes (not always) after turning the computer on and getting the Welcome screen the screen remains black (apart from the cursor). Eventually it may continue loading to the desktop however sometimes it doesn't. It's getting annoying because if it doesn't I have to cold reboot it. The only 'recent' upgrade to my computer was about 2 months ago when I installed a AMD Radeon 7850 OC to replace my overheating ATI Radeon 5770.

Today I was playing a match of Counter Strike: Source on my Windows 7 32-bit pc. During the game my computer had frozen and I was required to reboot my pc, after the reboot had completed and the windows 7 loading screen finished what I was left to see was a black screen... stunned I restarted my pc again and again this black screen. The computer keeps giving me the option to "recover" the start up files but when I click on this option it says windows is loading the files but when that completes it just goes to the windows loading screen then black again.
I have tried putting my windows 7 disk into my drive and using it to restore my pc but it does the exact same thing, loads up and goes straight to the windows loading screen then to the back screen.... I have been trying for hours now to get this to work! What I have: Windows 7 32-bit install disk, Windows 7 32-bit system repair disk, Laptop with windows 7 32-bit and windows 7 32-bit installed and running. Anything you can say to help will be appreacheated.
P.S Sometimes there is a 2x2 pixel green box in the top left hand corner...
P.P.S If there is a solution that requires all files deleted then that option is fine by me.
Its midnight and I'm kinda tired, but after removing all usb devices startup repair has appeared and is trying to fix my errors.

I have encountered a problem that is starting to annoy me. The other day my laptop froze and I restarted. After the flash windows screen it goes black and I can see nothing, doesn't get to the users screen. I have had windows 7 on for 2 months and all has been perfect.
I have tried to install the Nvidia drivers again (re downloaded drivers 179.48 and 186.82 with mod .inf). Both said installed correctly but after the restart still got black screen. Currently I am in safe mode on video controller as the display card. I uninstalled the old drivers as well.
the 179.48 were on previously and I have had no problems until the other day. I am stuck for any other solutions on what to do. I have a dell m1710 with a 7950 gtx. Win 7 build is 7201 64bit. All help would be greatly appreciated as I am at a wits end...

When I start my computer, the windows logo animation happens, and then it goes to a black screen with a cursor in the middle. I have done startup repair a few times, and the first time it did something, but now when I try it says there there are no problems. I cannot start it in safe mode either. One major problem is that there are files that I really need for a school project on this computer. So, is there anything I can do to recover the files and fix my computer?
