System Update Readiness Tool?
Aug 7, 2012I have downloaded and installed the "System Update Readiness Tool".
Now how do I run it. I CANNOT find it in "All Program". How the heck do I run it?

Windows 7 X64 SP1 Will Not Install And Update Readiness Tool Will Not Run
Sep 20, 2011Have an HP G70-463CL that refuses to install some updates.Discovered SP 1 has not been made available or installed. Tried the manual install of SP 1 from the MS website and it fails and tells me to "Check for Update Readiness Tool" Downloaded that tool and attempted to execute it and it also fails. The readiness tool reports "Installed encountered an error: 0x8007000d, The data is invalid".The Laptop originally came with Vista and later a Win 7 x64 DVD was supplied, and was upgraded about a year ago. We noticed there was two C++ Security updates that have been trying to update everytime the PC is turned off since JUNE 2011.how I can get the readiness tool to work? If I cannot make the tool work I know I have no chance of installing 46 missing secuity updates.

Jun 25, 2012I reinstalled windows 7 a few weeks ago and everything went well and its running really fast and never crashes or anything but SP1 just will not ever install. I tried disabiling my antivirus, installing it without any other updates, downloading it off the Microsoft site and installing it manually, going into troubleshooting in the control panel for the updates and it did some checks and said it repaired some update stuff but it did nothing and I tried the update readiness tool. It installed and did a scan and said it fixed some stuff but it didn't fix my problem. Here is the log from the update readiness tool. I searched around on how to understand the log but couldn't really find much so hopefully one of you can help. I did download and copy the KB2633952.msu file into the CheckSUR directly like it says on the Microsoft site to fix the unavailable repair files. [code]

Apr 8, 2011My Windows Update is failing. For whatever reason, my Vaio cannot install Windows 7 SP1. The update fails and it returns variations of unknown error or errors whose numbers are nowhere to be found when I search. (I've tried it 7 times, got 5 5 error numbers and 2 unknown errors.).Right now, I'm following the troubleshooting steps at microsoft.com. It had me run the Windows Update troubleshooter, which claimed to make changes so the update would install. It didn't install.
The site claims that it could take "several minutes" and to not close the installer "even if the progress bar appears to stop, don't cancel the installation." Fine, I haven't. But the progress bar hasn't moved. As in, there's no green in the bar at all. It has been running for over two hours. I know I got the right file; I checked my Windows 7 Version before I downloaded.
It's just hanging at "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)" How long do I wait? Have any of you encountered this? What do I do nextI'm technically adept enough to follow directions - but that's where my computer expertise ends. When I searched the forums (maybe I didn't search well enough?) I didn't find this problem, but others mentioning similar issues with the SP1 update and other people successfully running the updater.
Can't Install 14 Updates (including Update Readiness Tool)?
Mar 2, 2012Reading around, it seems like everyone seems to have issues getting updates to install.This is on a freshly installed copy of 7 Pro x64 SP1.And here it fails later (it only tries to install 3 updates. the Update readiness tool spends awhile using a single core of my computer to install only to fail)DIT: UPDATE: after trying over and over, looks like the update readiness tool finally installed! I didn't change anything... really strange.

Oct 8, 2012I have had the generic.win virus on my computer for a while now due to my anti virus program not being able to remove it. It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines. However I believe that the virus has corrupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where I can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool.
When I try to run the system repair tool I know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ultimately restore my computer. Unfortunately it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I just want a virus free computer. My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files.

(I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. Dec 28, 2011the other night i left my computer on and it said it was going to auto update at 3am, i came back downstairs to see it had updated and tried to use my mouse/keyboard (wireless Microsoft ones) and nothing was happening.. it said the windows update had installed correctly in the bottom right hand side, i guess the only thing it can be is a driver issue as it works on my windows XP partition i am using now and also works on a recovery disk/startup to get into bios.. the problem i have is i have tried a USB to Ps/2 connection with no luck (with my wireless mouse/keyboard and a wired one of both), ive gone into system recovery and apparently i don't have any system restore points (im 99% sure i did/do) ive booted into safe mode the story is the same there.

When my computer would not turn on yesterday, 8/8/12 I tried many things, eventually restarting in Safe Mode - which did at least get me out of the black error screen and into windows. After poking around and testing things, I finally decided the only way to go was System Restore. There, I found there'd been an automatic critical update on 8/7/12. After restoring to before that point and turning off all automatic windows updates, my computer is now running fine.

Windows 7 Update And System File Checker Will Not Run?
Aug 26, 2012The problem started when I had three updates that would not install at shutdown. I tried to run check disk and system file checker which neither would run initiallyCheck disk runs now and says there are no problems. SFC says "Window Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." As for Windows update, I have tried deleting the temp update files located atC:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. I have also tried to Resource readiness tool as well as Microsoft Fix It for windows update. The fix it tool says it finds errors and fixes them but the problem is not fixed. It shows up every time I run the tool. Since deleting the temp files, windows update just says "Windows could not search for new updates" with and error code of 80070002.I suspected a virus at first but was unable to find anything with a full scan of AVG and Malware Bytes. Guess that doesn't mean there is not one.

In both cases, the update seemed to hang and I left the computer switched on overnight with the monitor switched off.On the first occasion it was still hung in the morning so I reset the computer. All seemed to be OK during the day but when I came to close down there was an update to apply. I guess it was the same one. It hung again and I left the computer overnight again. This time it had switched off but when I switched it on again it came up with a temporary profile.A message appeared telling me to look in the event viewer but that is a waste of time as there are several hundred million entries which don't mean anything to me.Where do I go from here? I guess I can do a system restore but that is likely to lead me back here after a day or two as the system tries to keep itself up to date.

Jun 18, 2012over the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000D" and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers.But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).

Sep 15, 2011My computer was installing the latest updates for windows 7 professional 64 bit and the battery died during the shut down process, and now when I start the computer it will allow me to log in but when it hits the desktop it freezes up completely. I have tried using the system restore but somehow my restore points cant be found anywhere and when I tried using the system repair option on the installation cd it says it cant because the problem is unfixable. The error it says it has is in the boot sector and it says the error code is 0x45d, but when I ran it a second time it didn't say that. I really don't want to deal with pulling off all of my personal files and then installing a fresh copy of windows because that would be too much of a hassle, but if i have to i will.

I have been having some troubles with this computer since day of purchase. The first BSOD I had was posted and resolved here: BSOD during battlefield 3. Previously, my computer would BSOD during game activity, such as battlefield 3. Elmer identified the probable cause being Avira, and sure enough when I attempted to delete it the computer BSOD; I managed to delete it in safemode and have had no BSOD's during game sessions ever since. However, lately I have encountered random BSOD's during Windows update and System start up (Just before the windows logo screen) of the same error code; I have posted the DMP file and CPUz screenshots. I think it is also worth mentioning that in games I have noticed stuttering no matter what graphical settings I set it to.I am having difficulty tracking down the Hardware responsible for this BSOD; I have run memtest overnight and it passed without fault. Could the 60gb Force 3 SSD be responsible? Or the RAM?
System Restarted After Windows Update - None Of USB 2.0 Ports Working
Aug 12, 2011Left my computer running Win 7 home premium on overnight, had just installed a fresh copy of windows. I saw a message saying the system was restarted because of windows updates. Now, none of my USB 2.0 ports work, neither the rear ports nor usb mobo headers work. The two usb 3.0 ports do work however. Those 2.0 ports were working fine previously. Never seen update do this before.

Please wait while this update completes." I click ok and the program shuts down. I cannot uninstall the program (I get error 1060). Is there a registry key missing? Feb 9, 2012I've discovered three problems with this laptop and think they all might be related? Windows Update not working with error 0x80070057 - I have searched the internet for help on this and tried suggestions like; starting/stopping wuauserv service, deleting WinUpd cache. System Restore not working; unable to create restore points or restore (the last point is from November), this gives error 0x81000101 Shadow Copy Timeout. Again searched and tried fixing all suggestions like making sure the SysRestore services are running. Device Manager is completely blank; also tried suggested repairs like setting correct permissions on Enum folder in registry. On top of the problem specific fix attempts I've also done the following general fixes: sfc /scannow - found problems but unable to fix repaired registry from RegBack reset all Services to default ran combofix and malwarebytes chkdsk /r removed McAfee have checked Windows & Sytem32 folder for correct user permissions I'm sure I've done a few other things but can't recall everything I've tried.Have also tried Windows Repair but stays at "Checking Compatibilty" for hours.Generally Windows seems to be fine except for these three issues; system is quick and general useage is without issues.

Windows 7 Black Screen After Update / Advanced System Care
Sep 15, 2012I'm currently in safe mode in my windows 7 laptop which I can only access this computer by. The reason is because when i try to boot windows regularly, I get past the login screen then to be pwned by some black screen with my cursor only displaying. I downloaded a software from IOBit called Advanced system care, then I ran a full system clean. I came back later to reset my laptop and encountered an update, I let it update. When the update was finished, I started getting the Black screen of death.
Things I tried:
- System restore (It couldn't find a restore due to the update)
- Uninstalling updates (No difference was made)
- The CTRL+ALT+DEL then some link for the fix (CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work)
- Start up repair (Nope, no difference)
- The /sfc command (It worked but, still no difference)
I'm think pretty much stuck as I don't have a Windows 7 CD, although I have a formatted USB, I'm considering downgrading to XP. But, I'm getting problems with that as well.
System Hangs On Shut Down After Power Loss During Update Installation?
Sep 18, 2011I had a power loss while installing a windows update about two months ago. Ever since then my system will hang either on logging off or shutting down.I have tried making a new user (No Help)it hangs in safe mode also.I also do not have a list of prior updates in control panel since this problem.The system works fine other than that.

Sep 23, 2012I updated my computer last night with this update [KB2744842]. This morning I tried to open windows 7, but it gets stuck in the opening animation. I went into safe mode and try to do system restore, but all the restore points disappeared.... Finally, I tried "Advanced startup options" and chose Last Known Good Configuration (advanced). With this I was finally be able to boot into Windows 7 64-bit, but now my internet would not work either Ethernet or wifi.
I have tried:

netsh int ip reset reset.log
Nothing works...
