Can't Install 14 Updates (including Update Readiness Tool)?
Mar 2, 2012
Reading around, it seems like everyone seems to have issues getting updates to install. This is on a freshly installed copy of 7 Pro x64 SP1.And here it fails later (it only tries to install 3 updates. the Update readiness tool spends awhile using a single core of my computer to install only to fail)DIT: UPDATE: after trying over and over, looks like the update readiness tool finally installed! I didn't change anything... really strange.

Have an HP G70-463CL that refuses to install some updates.Discovered SP 1 has not been made available or installed. Tried the manual install of SP 1 from the MS website and it fails and tells me to "Check for Update Readiness Tool" Downloaded that tool and attempted to execute it and it also fails. The readiness tool reports "Installed encountered an error: 0x8007000d, The data is invalid".The Laptop originally came with Vista and later a Win 7 x64 DVD was supplied, and was upgraded about a year ago. We noticed there was two C++ Security updates that have been trying to update everytime the PC is turned off since JUNE 2011.how I can get the readiness tool to work? If I cannot make the tool work I know I have no chance of installing 46 missing secuity updates.

I reinstalled windows 7 a few weeks ago and everything went well and its running really fast and never crashes or anything but SP1 just will not ever install. I tried disabiling my antivirus, installing it without any other updates, downloading it off the Microsoft site and installing it manually, going into troubleshooting in the control panel for the updates and it did some checks and said it repaired some update stuff but it did nothing and I tried the update readiness tool. It installed and did a scan and said it fixed some stuff but it didn't fix my problem. Here is the log from the update readiness tool. I searched around on how to understand the log but couldn't really find much so hopefully one of you can help. I did download and copy the KB2633952.msu file into the CheckSUR directly like it says on the Microsoft site to fix the unavailable repair files. [code]

My Windows Update is failing. For whatever reason, my Vaio cannot install Windows 7 SP1. The update fails and it returns variations of unknown error or errors whose numbers are nowhere to be found when I search. (I've tried it 7 times, got 5 5 error numbers and 2 unknown errors.).Right now, I'm following the troubleshooting steps at microsoft.com. It had me run the Windows Update troubleshooter, which claimed to make changes so the update would install. It didn't install.
The site claims that it could take "several minutes" and to not close the installer "even if the progress bar appears to stop, don't cancel the installation." Fine, I haven't. But the progress bar hasn't moved. As in, there's no green in the bar at all. It has been running for over two hours. I know I got the right file; I checked my Windows 7 Version before I downloaded.
It's just hanging at "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)" How long do I wait? Have any of you encountered this? What do I do nextI'm technically adept enough to follow directions - but that's where my computer expertise ends. When I searched the forums (maybe I didn't search well enough?) I didn't find this problem, but others mentioning similar issues with the SP1 update and other people successfully running the updater.

I'm having a problem with Windows Update. It's managed to install a few updates, bust most of the updates that it automatically finds fail to install (many important ones too - security updates, etc.). A bit frustrating. For the past couple of days, it tries to install the same two updates every time I turn off the computer. The process takes about 40 minutes. Then it shuts off without an error message. Afterwards, when I turn the computer on again, it doesn't say anything but there are once more two updates that need to be installed - the same ones. It's been quite frustrating. For now, I've got the updates turned off, so it won't try to install them any more, but that's only a workaround and no solution.
I think the problem might be connected with some other installations problems. I've tried to download the updates and install them manually, but it didn't work either; first it said that my virus scanner was interfering (I disconnected from the Internet, deactivated the virus scanner, and tried it again, which got a little bit further but not all the way). At the end I got a kind of dubious error message, which I sadly haven't written down, but it was similar to the ones that I got when I tried to install Microsoft Office and also was unable to get the installation to run through to the end. In both instances, the installation was almost done, after which I got a message that there was a problem with some assembly components, and then it undid the changes. This normally took more than an hour - 30 minutes for the installation to get to the point where it started over, an hour to get it to cancel itself. Haven't found a solution there, and that sucks, because I really need it. I've got a lot of files saved in OneNote format that I can't use and need for work.
The Office error messages led me to a couple of forums where it had worked out because people had updated their .NET framework. I can't do that because .NET is part of the OS framework in Windows 7, apparently. Then I read that some other people had just used Windows Update to update their OS, and then it worked. That's what led me to the discovery that my updates weren't working. I believe that that's got something to do with the problem.I've installed some software, but there's the problem with Windows - I can't install it at all. Not sure what to do here. Windows Update lets me look at the update history. I've found that I get the error code 643 for the two updates that have repeated over the past two days again and again. For the other ones it's a little different; they tried to install once and didn't work. For those, I get following code: 80080005.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I have my Windows Update settings set to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." The reason I use this setting is because even though I usually install the updates (because mostly they improve things), sometimes I'll see an update that I know I do not want to install. So I want to have control over which updates get installed. However, I ALWAYS want to install the latest "Definition Update For Microsoft Security Essentials", and since those updates are released very frequently, it's very annoying to always have to install them manually. Is there a way that I can have ONLY those definition updates installed automatically while still leaving it so that all other updates are not automatically installed?

I was searching pictures with Google and accidentally got directed to the not-so-secure site that showed a pop-up window saying something about that "rogue" MS Removal Tool program. Pop-up had only OK button and close function at the top corner. After considering I didn't press neither and closed Google Chrome using task manager. I restarted my computer several times to determine to if I got the infection, but apparently I dodged the bullet this time.Is it possible for MS Removal Tool to install itself using only pop-up or does it require install before it can activate itself and wreck havoc?

Windows Update seems to be stuck in and endless cycle of applying the same 5 important updates over and over again. Probably been happening for about 3 months now, and despite going through the install process and following all the instructions to the letter, every time I start up, the same updates are available for download again. Here is a screenshot of Windows Update showing the updates in question

It appears to be solved, however Windows Update does not work. I get the message "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." Needless to say, the restarts do not help. I also tried installing Windows Essentials for virus protection which could not receive updates. I have since uninstalled an am using Clamwin for virus protection.

The updates were for MS Framerwork KB2600217 and KB2656351

for a few days (maybe a week) now I have had trouble with my Canon MX870 Printer/Fax. I have been using it successfully for the past 16 months now, via USB connection, installed on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP PC (I just unplug it and plug it in to whichever computer I need to print from). For some reason, it has decided not to recognize the drivers on my laptop.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall (no go).I also deleted every instance of MX870 from the registry that it would allow me to (some it wouldn't for some reason no access yes I am Administrator).Reinstall again still no go.The Windows 7 Updates were failing to update the Fax component which I thought was the problem, then all of a sudden it was successful still no printer. Now, it is unsuccessful again.I don't use the Fax component. The reinstall from the CD is successful, but when I plug in the printer, it fails."Device driver software was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed. [code] Also, each time I unplug then plugin the USB cable, it attempts to reinstall the device drivers, the printer successful, the fax failing. It never did this before when I was happily printing away from both computers.
I have no problem printing from the XP machine when it's plugged in there all is good there.I have been to the Canon website and downloaded the latest drivers, which installed perfectly, but again when I plug in the printer, it fails to install the fax driver and the printer won't work..I have also tried all of the various USB ports and ruled that out.I've also run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter also without success. Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I can't even print to PDF. My CutePDF program is also not working. I thought this may have been a workaround until I got the printer working again, but no luck.CutePDF will go thought its processes (it's now ticked as default as my Canon is now longer even listed), up till the point where you need to name the file you're creating (that box doesn't appear) all you get to do is print, choose CutePDF, then it disappears no file or if there is, I have no idea where it's gone or what it's called can't find a trace of it.I have not downloaded or installed any other programs (except Windows Updates) in some time that could have caused this. I am at a loss. This is a business computer and printer and is causing much angst.I am running Windows7 (64bit) on an Acer Aspire Laptop (only 16 months old) Firefox 13.0.1.Also running Microsoft Fixit for Printers doesn't even detect the printer and tells me to install one it already is As does the Troubleshooter Does not detect the printer.

Every time I shut down, Windows Update installs the same 2 updates. It never gives an error message saying that the install failed. It just insists on doing it again. This is the update from last week, I guess. I'm afraid I'm at work and away from the affected computer. It's not critical, it's just annoying, bc shutdown now takes too long.

While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.

I recently formatted my Dell Inspiron Duo netbook, with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I installed all of the software which I run on it without any problems. When I try to update Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus (32bit) Windows Update only finds a few updates, and after they're installed it doesn't find anymore updates. It doesn't even find Office 2010 SP1.{Note: I had no problems with other updates like Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or other Microsoft updates.I tried uninstalling Office 2010 and installing it again but nothing changed. The privacy settings which show up the first time you run an Office application I set it as "Recommended settings".I also tried downloading Office 2010 SP1 (32bit) and when I tried to run it an error came up saying something like version mismatch (I presume that you need to install other updates before running the setup & I also tried to download an other update but the same error came up.)

Ok over the past week or so windows has been installing the same 3 updates every night! Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
So I checked to see if they failed and they were installed successfully!
I have ran 3 different MS Fixit things to no avail. I have tried to update the PC manually however it does not go past 0% on installing the updates it just says preparing updates.
I tried adding 2 optional updates to make it 5 and manually clicking update however it sticks on 0% downloading updates.
I am usually pretty good at troubleshooting and fixing PC problems however this one I am defeated! I do not want to restore if possible, will this take away ANY of my files e.g work I have done I have never had to do it before!

edit (Ian): This thread has been split from an audio drivers topic, as it may be of use to others having C004F012 errors.
When I went to install the x64 drivers, I got a message saying that my Operating System was not compatible, but then it asked me if I wanted to run it under the correct settings, which I did and then it installed. As for the Windows Updates, I tryed to run them and I get "Windows could not search for new updates" and error code C004F012.
