Just found out Win 7 SP1 was not auto-installed in a netbook and a home PC today, even though both machines were set up to auto-update. The SP1 was sitting in the Windows update notification. Is this normal? Also after manually installing SP1 (i.e. click OK in Windows update), some old updates started to pop up and asked to be installed. I suppose they were for the SP1. Is this normal?
I was trying to install updates on my wife's computer for office 2010, when I received a message that updates failed. On going back to previous updates, I realized, that none of the updates had installed. I immediately checked to make sure the office setup exe file was enabled, and it was. Windows updates install just not office updates. (Amd 64 dual-core 6 gb ram 2 itb hdd. windows vista home premium 64-bit). What can I do to get these updates to install? Event viewer gives this output: Product: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 -- Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%.I also got a error code:80070643. What do I need to do to get the updates to install?
Friends "out of the blue" my rock-solid-for-three-years windows 7 Ultimate x64 rig seems to have a permissions issue [I'm guessing]. I went to uninstall a program, and it failed. tried to install a program and it failed. Did windows updates, selected about 10 or so, most installed ok, but three failed. I created a new administrator-level account [the system has only had one in its history, the main/only I have ever used], tried to logon for the first time, and it failed. This system is on a LAN [wifi bridged AP] and is a Homegroup owner, but it is not on a Domain.
I am running Win.7 64 bit Home Prem. Those updates won't install. I have tried to download from the net and they still wouldn't install. I even tried The Fixit link.I tried to reload Net Framework 4 but I couldn't. It wouldn't uninstall or repair.
Since early August all my Security updates have been failing. It adds time to each boot up period as it goes through the updates and then at the end will say it's failed and is reverting all the changes. I have already done some research on this issue and ran "sfc/scannow" as well as "chkdsk/f/r." Both seemed to go through with no problems. After that I did a Windows update and 12 updates seemed to go through with no problem until the required reboot where we're back to the same issue of failing and reverting.

For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

recently I've been noticing Windows 7 doesn't even automatically check all the updates it claims are important. Yes, I have it set to install Windows Updates automatically, but this would still prompt me to "start" the updates.I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my having Microsoft Office 2003 (the 2003 version of MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) but, that's not an excuse. They're prompting me to install updates for my software they're JUST releasing, and yet they fail seemingly almost every time? Do they even test the sh!t they release to the public? And how come sometimes they'll install if I manually do it myself as opposed to when I try doing it automatically? Why should it be any different?
I recently downloaded and installed a set of Windows Updates that came out on 4/26. I had about 8 of them. 4 of them installed successfully but 4 of them were downloaded and installed(on shutdown) but fail to configure on startup. The four I'm having issues with are:
KB2492386 KB2515325 KB2522422 KB982018
Each of these are updates for Windows 64-bit. I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with these as well. I plan on waiting a day or two and try again. I've tried twice today with no success. For future reference, what can cause an update to fail to configure?
I have had problems with failed Windows Updates for the past 3 months or so. I tried the windows update troubleshooter and it did not work. I tried to perform a clean boot and install the updates, it also did not work. I was able to successfully install a few updates to the .NET Framework by completely uninstalling it and then re-installing it (and double checking that it installed properly). At the moment I have 17 updates that fail to install and they pretty much all deal with microsoft office 2010. The only two not related to microsoft office are:
Update for Windows 7 (KB2545698) Update for Windows 7 (KB2547666)
I don't know what else to do. I currently have Windows 7 Professional x64. I bought the computer in March of this year and have not made any major changes. The only updates I have are from Windows Updates and the last time they successfully installed (besides the .NET Framework I just fixed) was 21/10/11 and it was a hotfix for windows (KB2482122) problems really started around 19/07/2011 (more than a few updates failed).
For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update. The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?
My wifes computer has been acting up for about a week now. IE 8 is not loading properly and is crashing. I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. Chrome works for a while and the she gets the AW SNAP message.
I did search out this problem...very old posts recommended I start a new thread. For the last 2 weeks every time I shut down automatic install...installs the same 8 updates.
for 72 hours now im geting constant updates on windows update, windows even re instaled SP1 ...story goes my hdd broke down 3 days ago so i installed on a new hd win 7 home prem. x64 +sp1, since that time i had at least 5 hours of updates (inc. setup),funny thing is a friend did format on his pc today and we spend 3 hours updating (dont think he finished, instead he went to sleep) My q is (as stated above) is there a reason for the 34/72/4/3/2/1/silverlight new updates found????? did Windows 7 went unstable???its rly anoying (got some failed updates to)until 3 days ago i had no probs.
Just got this new Acer aspire, windows 7 laptop and keep getting same error message when trying to install updates:' Windows update encountered an unknown error. 2 updates failed and were not installed - error codes 643 and 74F'.
I've tried installing certain ones, even some ones at a time, but the results are the same. Download complete. Please restart. But the update never happens and I don't get an error message.
Windows 7 updates have not been installing recently - All the latest set of updates that have been offered attempt to install and then they stop - I attempted to install one at a time but this is no help either
Where to start? Several weeks ago I installed a windows update & then my Bullguard firewall wouldn't start. I got remote assistance from Bullguard & they succesfully restarted my firewall.Since then I have permissions issues, I have tried changing my status from admin to standard but the standard option is greyed out. I have tried setting a new user account but that also will not let me apply any changes without a password which I don't have. Also when I go to All Programs this is empty? My other problem is my windows security updates faill to install ( error 8000ffff) I have looked at different solutions online & used microsoft fix it but all to no avail. I have 19 updates to install but they constantly come back with the same error.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and there are some updates I can't install. It loads to 15% then it says "failure configuring updates, reverting to old setup", or something similar. First I had 8 updates when this started happening but I managed to install the security updates by selecting them exclusively. I have have tried deleting my updates folder and download again but same thing happens. Is there a fix for this? It's annoying when my computer reboots because they can't be installed. These are the updates in question:
Basically my issue is when I install a Windows update, it installs then I go to shut down the PC and it installs before shutting off. I then go to pack on my PC and the update is back again, I have repeated this several times and It is still there. The update is:Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-bases systems (KB954430)
I have been trying to install some windows updates on a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Every time I try to update I receive two error codes. One is 8024200D and the other is 80092004. I have tried everything I can think of aside from wiping and re-installing windows to get rid of these error codes to install the updates
I have gone at least 5 months since I last installed windows updates. I had partially disabled the automatic updates (made it so that it downloads automatically but I choose whether to install them) and have recently decided to install the 101 or so updates that had been downloaded automatically.
About 74 of those updates, but I was able to troubleshoot windows update and so was able to successfully install 30 of those important updates.
The problem now is that I have 44 updates that are downloaded and require a shutdown or restart to be installed. However every time I shutdown or restart my computer I have to wait 5-10 mins for windows to configure the updates and in the end they fail and the changes are reverted.
I've tried troubleshooting again but it did not work. I wonder if these updates are older versions of newer ones I have installed and are therefore failing to install.
I have HP ProBook 4530s with Windows Home Premium 64bit. I just check the history of installed updated and I m shocked to see that windows updates are not being installed from last 6 months.
I have about 12 updates that are taking way too long to install. Right now they're at 65%, tomorrow they might be at 68%, or even 72%. But the point is that they never completely install. Normally I shut my computer off at the end of the work day but nothing updates before the computer shuts all the way down. Last night I kept the computer on all night while trying to install updates and I ended up getting an error message saying that they couldn't install because of missing components, but it didn't mention what was missing. I believe that I might be missing some .dll files. I HAVE had success installing a couple Microsoft Office updates but, when it comes to Windows updates, they never happen. I've tried the Microsoft Fix-It and the System Update Readiness Tool but neither of those things worked. Usually the error code that I get is 0x80010108 if that helps at all.
For several months I have had problems each day when asked to install "Windows Updates", some days I get 4 or 5 updates or more, for a long time it installed all except one. This has now expanded so I have three updates that will not install for some reason. It creates a restore point then tries and fails each time. I am using Norton Antivirus and have even disabled that, but I still can get the updates to install. I have never had this problem before. I also have a laptop and another PC computer that has done these updates, so why problems with this one? It's driving me crazy.I am enclosing a copy of the error message I get together with the list of failed attempts (only recent ones).
