Just wondering, is there a way so that if for example, I have a video folder that is being shared on the network, to continue being shared, even if the computer is turned off? I want to be able to share my files 24/7 but I dont want to keep the computer running all the time. Is there a way to share while in a very low power state?
View 1 RepliesI have just been given a Fujitsu Lifebook S6540 running windows 7 and on the whole it is fine but it is eating the battery when switched off. Research on the internet has shown that the computer, although seeming to shut down may still be running in the background. I have therefore been into the registry and changed the powerdown after shutdown code to 1 rather than 0 which should ensure a complete shut down. I duly did this and let the computer charge up before shutting down and then left it for a day.It did not make a shred of difference and found half the battery had been use

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have this problem where the wireless wont work after the power has been turned off and then back on. they use a power box for the main pc, modem and router and turn it off before they go to sleep to save on electricity costs. usually, my fix is to unplug the router, turn the modem off.. turn it back on and the router back on. from time to time the wireless will work after the power has been turned back on, but its either very slow or the connection goes in and out. i'm sick of having to reset everything before i want to use my laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is 1 year old and has worked great until a month ago. I was unable to connect to the internet and thru troubleshooting got a "missing network adapter". I have since upgraded the driver. I also purchased Registry cleaner program that supposedly found over 400 registry errors.I found by accident that I was able to connect normally if I turned the PC off by holding the power button. Then restarting, I got a message to start windows normally. When I did, and then it connected to the internet normally.Now, each night if I leave the power connected to the laptop and shut down windows from the Start command it works fine. I do not want to have to leave the power connected. Toshiba tech support is unable to help other that suggesting I return the PC to the "out of the box' status which is totally unacceptable to me.

i recently got an update from microsoft on win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating i had no sound in any application (aim, skype, chrome, firefox, Internet, etc.). this has happened before, and i ran microsoft's sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it.this time when i ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. i am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with ms updates. will downloadi can't go back to a previous configuration, i don't have one to go to
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I look into the case and see that the red VGA LED is lit up on the motherboard. Whenever this happens, I take my GPU out and reinsert it, close up the case, power up and it works again.

I can't enable wake on lan on my computer. First I tried with an on board LAN cart then I added external cart - Intel(R) PRO/1000 GT.In the device manager I checked "Allow this device to wake up the computer" and "Only allow a magic packed to wake up the computer" for the network adapter.In BIOS I enabled the PME Event Wake up property.On my machine I installed a Magic Packect sender/receiver to check whather the packets can reach the computer and I see that the packets are received when I send them from my phone.But when the computer is turned off I can't wake it this way. Also there's light from my LAN cart, so I assume that is has power from the mainboard when the computer is turned off. My mainboard is Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 and the operating system is Windows 7 32bit.

I turned the computer back on and the internet wouldn't work at all! I reinstalled windows 7 again, and this time I didn't do any updates. I went to the device manager and selected the Atheros AR5007 driver and selected "update". Halfway through, the computer gave me BSOD. I rolled back the driver to previous version and all works well now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am on Windows 7 x64. Today I turned my computer on and it stopped at the "Windows Error Recovery". From the 2 options given I chose "Start Windows Normally". After pressing Enter it will not go beyond the black screen where it says "Starting Windows" and immediately reboots to the "Windows Error Recovery" again. I then chose the other option which is "Launch Startup Repair", entered the Disk, wait for it to load system files but it reboots to the Disk loading the files again like an eternal loop. Tried the F8 Advance booting options, chose "boot in safe mode with command prompt", it starts loading but then it reboots itself again!!

I have a computer which, every time it's restarted or turned on, the network icon always had that exclamation point, and it can't connect to the internet. All it needs to do is an IP config release/renew, then disable then re-enable the adapter, and it fixes itself. But upon reboot/restart, it happened again!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with windows starting upon my PC, however, it only occurs intermittently, but seems more frequent now. When booting, the windows spiral begins then stops, and it reboots to the screen to choose startup repair or start windows normally. If I do startup repair, it doesn't find anything to repair, and reboot usually works fine. If I choose Start Windows Normally, 75% of the time if works fine. When the computer runs, it's fine and everything seems to run normally, I don't get blue screens or other issues. I'm not sure where to find any recorded errors to get more specifics.

I got windows 7 about 5 months ago and this sharing thins is about to make me want to find a good XP computer. When I first set it up I couldn't access but few of my files. I have read all I can find as well ask questions on forums. I have finally got it where I can most of the time see my own files. THEN yesterday I downloaded a jpg file from my cell phone to the computer. The image is side ways so I went to rotate it clockwise and the computer says I don't have permission to this file. I messed with it 30 minutes and could never get where I can edit it. Now, mind you it is in a folder and other files in that folder I can edit. I finally deceided to try to save as in another folder? It let me do that and from there I could rotate it. This makes no sense to me. How can I make all the files on this dang computer be available to me or anyone who is on my computer? Who ever made this sharing thing this way must be paranoid and trying to hide something from his wife. My life is an open book whoever is smart enough to get in my computer can surely see all my files anyway. All this is doing is keeping me from my own files.
