Nov 8, 2011I have a co-worker that brought in his Acer notebook. It is running Windows 7 loads but only will show the background. Nothing else will show. When trying to do a repair it locks up the repair every time. Does the same thing if I try to install Windows again.

Laptops don't recognise it until drivers are loaded.Hp pavilion dv6500 won't boot. Mbr is damaged. Can't use repair disk as won't recognize Usb drive.So I put hdd into my other laptops 2nd hdd port " Hp pavilion Dv9800 and repaired boot sector that way. Tested it on dv9800 and boots fine.Put hdd back into dv6500 and get same mbr fail message.

May 11, 2011I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

I would like to create a system restore disk to allow me to restire system images, etc. However being a netbook the NC10 doesn't have a CD/DVD drive and while I can use an external one, it would be much easier to have the repair disk on a Flash Pen Drive.

Jan 26, 2012i have a Sony Vaio laptop with windows 7 home premium 32bits and i wanted to create a system repair disc with the windows 7 tools but this laptop has no CDDVD drive so obviously the tool gives an error asking for one to be pluged in...o the question is, is there any other way to create a system repair disc or do i need to get an external cddvd drive?EDIT: forgot to say, the point is so i can create an image of the system repair disc so i can put it on an USB drive

Nov 9, 2009I created a backup and image (Win 7 Pro) on an external (USB attached) HDD and then created a Windows 7 System Repair Disk. I then booted from the repair disk and the attached external drive is not visible.
The external drive is attached via through a hub, does it need to be attached directly? Is their a generic USB Mass Storage Device driver that I can load?
I was hoping that by creating the repair disk that all necessary drivers would have been loaded to the disk, but apparently not.

Oct 14, 2009Had an XP dual boot with Windows 7 RTM. Deleted XP C: drive and moved RTM D: drive over into it's space. I would like to keep and license this installation using retail Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition received with party pack.
Is there a way to change the Windows 7 D: drive to C: by running a repair install (upgrade over OS) as I would like to find a way to do this without having to do a clean install.

So far, everything appears to be the same... Except when I open iTunes I get an notice that says the registry settings needed to burn and import CDs are missing.I've been told that I can import the entire .reg backup and "hope that all goes well". It sounds rather sketchy and I am seeking better help.I've also been told that a wire could have come loose but I want to fix this registry problem before opening up my PC. Mar 3, 2011I've already ordered a new drive to replace my Samsung PATA, because the last time that I tried to use it, it made a peculiar buzzing noise for several seconds as it spun up, and when I removed the disc, I found two circular scratches very near the hub. The only thing that I can think of that would cause these would be the lens coming into contact with the disc, which I doubt that there is anything that can be done about .However, since I'm one of those people that finds it difficult to just toss things into the dumpster, I'm wondering if there is any practical means to remedy it's ills? Even if there was, I would only keep it as a spare, because I dislike it's performance compared to a SATA.

How To Repair USB3 Ext Drive When Power Or USB Connector Breaks
Jan 8, 2013just recently I had the power connection fail on an INTENSO USB3 ext drive -- as it was a 3GB drive I didn't want to lose all the data on it.Anyway I cracked open the case and it was simply a 3GB SATA Barracuda 7200 RPM normal HDD with a power and USB connector card embedded in the case.So I just removed the HDD and connected it up into a SATA slot on my desktop and it works fine as an INTERNAL drive (still fast too).Also frees up a valuable USB3 slot on my computer. (I only have 2 USB3 slots so each one is valuable).If I really want to use this as an external drive then I'd just get another SATA==>USB3 enclosure --but the disk is a bit heavy to use as a portable.
( I got the INTENSO drive for 70 EUR -- so even breaking it up it's still a bargan for a 3TB Barracuda SATA drive - whish Id' bought to or 3 of these and converted them to INTERNAL HDD's. !!).eems most of these larger external powered (not self powered) USB drives are simply normal HDD's contained in a SATA==>USB2 or USB3 container.

The size was like 25gb's so I saved it on my external hard-drive(I bought a case and put a hard drive(Seagate I think) in it). I know want to use this to restore my computer. So I made a system repair disk and loaded it up. However it cannot find my external hard-drive. I have "WindowsImageBackup " in my root directory of my external drive. Yet it still does not see it. I would install some drivers but I have no clue what drives I need as when I plug it into my computer and I am in windows 7 it finds my drive. What do I need to make window 7 recognize my image?

I've been stuck on the startup repair for almost 5 hours saying that it's repairing my hard drive or whatever (i forget exactly what it said), I first booted linux to check the SMART data on the HDD (i now know that I can do it with HBCD too) it came back all fine. I am now running Hirens Boot CD and DRevitalise to scan and repair bad sectors.
System Specs:
i5 3570k @ stock
MSI Z77 GD55 BIOS Version 1.6
8GB Kingston HyperX 1600mhz
Running HD4000 graphics
500GB Blue WD HDD
I do have a DxDiag on the desktop of the pc in question which I could get if needed (to tired to do now)
Edit: Reinstalling is not an option I will consider unless there is nothing else that I can do.
Edit: Turns out there is a tool from WD for HDD testing, am running that now instead if the last one.

Nov 11, 2012My pc is a stock Asus G53SX-A1, no hardware changes. Yet it says the reason I got a blue screen was due to hardware changes. My computer froze and rebooted during a video game. So I have been experiencing the classic startup repair loop and I tried everything I could find on google without progress. When I try to the option to fix the problem automatically it says it wasn't able to help and tells me the root cause is because there is no hard drive detected, and that if a hard drive is installed it is not responding. I can't detect in command prompt, but somehow I can see contents of it through BIOS so its really odd. When I tried to reinstall windows it says it can't find a hard drive to install on and I need to insert a drivers disk so I can set up the hard drive to continue. So I put in my Asus drivers disk and yet it tells me there's no drivers detected. I looked at the Asus website and all the downloads they have available are the same as on that same drivers disk it said it couldn't find drivers on. So right now my main problem is my pc doesn't detect that I have a hard drive at all even though I do, the same one the pc came with. This laptop has worked fine for almost a year and this issue just came out of nowhere, so any ideas as to why my HD would suddenly disappear in my computers eyes?

HD. would selected by them.The system copy come on the ext. HD and than done.Okay so far so good, but now is the moment there is a problem when I get my repair cd and load it, when it is loaded in the system, than see I the option Repair with system installation copy.When I hit that option than get I the error message, there is not a system copy on the Computer.No it is not on the Computer it is on my ext. HD. Advice from Microsoft.You don't see also not a menu for select the drive with the system copy.My question in this is, how do you fix your Computer when there is a problem.?If I said, it is not possible for selected the ext. drive via the Repair cd from Windows7 64-bits. Solved! I was looking the information and then I found the solution.When you made a system copy, then you made also a repair cd also known as recovery cd.When the system copy would been changed and not the repair cd, than get you troubles with restore system copy. The program don't find the system copy on your ext. drive.So I did make a new system copy and also a new repair cd and hoppa, it works.About the last question, still have I no answer on this.Than have I another question: By accident with Paragon Backup Restore program, must I created a new installation with the installation cd ( it is not the Repair cd), but I did seen that the installation cd did created a D partition, before this I didn't have.The virtual drive is empty but still has the installation cd from Windows7 used data from that partition.That is strange, because the virtual folder is empty.There is one thing what I can thinking: Windows7 installation created an extra partition from let we say, 7,39 mb ntfs.But than is the question there: Why do I see that from the extra partition with the device letter D, there is 3,68mb in use.?.There are no data in that folder.Now do I hope that there is someone that can explain me, how one or other works.
