Hanging On Boot, Won't Repair / Can Access As Slave Drive / Fixable?

Jul 7, 2012

My Win 7 drive refused to boot, refused to repair and refused to restore.I slotted in a spare little Win 7 drive, booted okay, can see the 'dodgy' drive, can see the data and need to know if I can fix it in this way to become my bootable drive as it is full of programs I would rather not have to spend hours reinstalling.I have Win 7 home premium for my sins.

Slave Drive Access / Taking Ownership Of Folders - File Not Found Error

Feb 8, 2012

I know there are a myriad of slave drive access issue posts on here. My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. Furthermore, when I going into my music or video folders - I get a "file not found" error when I try to open the files.

Slow Boot Due To Slave Drive

Jan 26, 2010

I have recently upgraded my computer from vista 64bit to win 7 64bit. I am usually ok with computer problems, but this one has stumped me. I use 2 hard drives. One 500gb SATA for OS. The other is a 250 Seagate IDE slave drive. Everything has been good since back in my xp days. Until this week when I installed windows 7. It takes about 10 minutes for my computer to boot into win 7 OS while my slave drive is plugged in. When I unplug the slave drive my computer runs very nicely.

SPECS:

ASUS P5Q-Pro
Intel 8500 -OC to 3.8 from 3.16
8GB DDR2 RAM

If any other specs are needed I have no problem giving the information.

Revo As Boot Drive, Want To Install XP On Slave Spinner?

I have a OCZ RevoDrive 120Gb I recently installed as boot drive C:, for Windows 7 64bit and it is running fine.I want to install WinXP 32bit on my SATA slave drive, but not sure if it is as simple as booting to DVD drive and selecting a partition on my SATA drive and loading it, or because the REVO is now the boot drive if there is more involved.

Windows Doesn't Boot After Removing Slave Drive?

Sep 9, 2011

I installed a new hard drive, and then installed windows to that new hard drive with the old one still connected and I now the two drives are somehow, linked so that if I remove the old drive, windows doesn't boot. When I reconnect the drive, windows boots up fine. I checked the boot priorities in the bios and its all as it should be.

I tried the windows repair disk, used the top option three times (as I've seen recommended on other forums), to no avail. I've tried the other options but the problem is, the windows installation is not detected, same with restore points, nothing works.

I think there's something to do with the Disk Management utility. I have the two disks, disk0 and disk1, disk1 is the disk I want to remove.

this is what the page looks like:

disk0 (boot, page file, crash dump, primary partition) disk1 (system, active, primary partition) + (8mb unallocated)

It seems the System-(thing?) is on disk1 so when i remove the drive, the computer doesnt boot. Makes sense. What doesnt make sense is that windows ISNT installed on that disk so why the hell is "system" on there and causing trouble??

Would making the partition on disk0 active solve my problem? I dont want to click on anything and break it so I ask here.

Slave Drive Not In Explorer

Oct 7, 2009

I am a first time Windows 7 user, coming from XP. I read that you could not go directly from XP to 7 without having Vista first, so I did a full wipe and format of my drives and installed 7 last night.

I noticed that I could not access the newly formated slave drive through the computer, but I could see it in Device Manager. As seen here:

I am unsure whether this is because of something I had done unknowingly during installation or by chance something entirely different. Might anyone have an idea?

Can't See Slave Drive Data

Jul 2, 2012

I have a win 7 hard drive that would not boot up. So I purchased a USB 2.0 to Sata/ide hard drive adapter in hopes of accessing the drive to copy the users files off of the drive. I see the drive in disk manager and it says that the drive is healthy & encrypted so enter the bitlocker recovery key for the drive, butI get the following error: 'f: is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect.

How can I get the data off of this drive?

Windows 7 Slave Drive Recognition

Jun 23, 2011

I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I'm having problems. I had originally used IE 9 but i was having so many problems i went back to using IE 8. Right now the problems that i'm having are, Windows 7 does not recognize my slave drive and it will not let me open an external link for a new window from an open window (thus i can't even verify my e-mail address for the game i want to start playing). Oh and one other thing, i keep getting a message that says i'm not running a valid windows program. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I've included the TSG SysInfo as well.

SSD Migration And Using Programs/applications On Slave Drive?

Apr 10, 2012

quick breakdown. Ive installed windows 7 onto my ssd (primary drive) and updated and installed all drivers. so its now a blank canvas. ive got a 500gb wd hd which has all my programs, data, pictures etc on it, including the old o/s.files and folders I can easily backup and move across as i please but ideally id like to keep the ssd relatively clutter free. (for games, data hungry apps)do i need to back that old drive up, reformat it and start again, installing the same programs to it minus the o/s?or does anyone know if i can run those original programs from a slave drive and if so how can i access them in the new o/s?in particular things like antivirus programs, itunes (which has a 130gb library) and so on which are already installed on the old drive but at the moment inaccesible as programs except for their folders.

XP Cannot Access Other Drive With Dual Boot

Nov 18, 2009

I've got a bit of a perplexing problem here that I hope somebody can provide some insight on. Set up the dual boot with your (very awesome) tutorial and everything works perfectly there. Windows 7 was installed first to the C: drive, XP is on an E: partition of the same drive. The D: drive is a second physical drive that is just used for file storage. If it matters, both physical drives are paired drives in Raid1.

The problem comes when I've loaded into Windows XP, I can't access the D: storage drive. It reads as size 0, and can't be formatted or read.

Under Windows 7, everything works. I can access the storage drive fine and have no problems using it.

I originally thought it was a permissions thing because the D: drive was formatted in Windows 7, but in XP I can read from the Windows 7 C: drive just fine.

I am at a loss, can anybody offer any suggestions as to why the drive would read fine under 7 but not when in XP?

OS Takes A While To Boot, Access Other Drive

Sep 1, 2012

Recently installed Windows on a SSD, very satisfied with its performance so far.

However, sometimes, Windows will take an unusually long time to boot, it will just sit there, and then I will hear my mechanical hard drive (data drive, no OS files installed on it, connected via a different SATA port) spin up, and at that point the Log in screen will appear.

I'm curious as to why it needs to access the data drive at all, there is no System Reserved partition on it, and no Windows files as far as I can see. I have attempted to keep it as a purely data storage drive.

Computer Freezing/Hanging A Few Minutes After Boot-up?

Nov 20, 2012

So for the past day I have been having a problem with my PC. I booted it up and within two minutes the whole thing froze, I couldn't Ctrl-Alt-Del or anything, so i figured something just went kaboom and decided to restart. Same thing happened.. so I decided to boot into Safe mode. The safe mode boot worked fine and I've prob alley booted into Safe Mode at least 20 times the past day and it only froze once.I don't know if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue or what, but It's really frustrating. I have run MSE and it can't find any viruses. Also, when I try to play music/or open a file,my computer hangs and it takes like 20 seconds of the little circle loading mouse icon for anything to happen, and sometimes this will also trigger the computer to downright freeze.

So far I have tried :Going into MSCONFIG and disabling startup/processes = Did not work System Restore : Delays the freezing for a little while but it comes back after a couple hours, the Hdd/sdd hanging is still present = did not work Ran a chkdsk = said it was fine Ran the WD HDD Diagnostic tool = said hdd was fine Did something called sfc /scannow (i think that's it) ... = said i was fine This is a custom built PC i made and I have had it for a month and a half, I also checked for loose cables but did not see any.

Specs :
CPU: i5 3570k
GPU: AMD Radeon 7970

HDD: WD Black 1TB
Ram : 8gb g.skill Ram
PSU: 750w OCZ
Mobo : ASRock Z77 Xtreme4
OS : Windows 7 64bit

Also, I have checked eventviewer and I get a lot of errors but they don't make sense and I don't think they are the problem.Error examples: The driver detected a controller error on DeviceIdeIdePort0. source: atapi Error Id: 11 NEXT Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Windows 7 Nor Windows 7 Repair Disc Will Not Boot, Keep Getting 'startup Repair'

Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

System Immediately Boots To Startup Repair - No Access To F8

Jan 4, 2013

So lately my computer's firewall has decided to not work so I searched around and eventually concluded on doing a upgrade reinstall. As I didn't want to lose any of my files, drivers or programs. All seemed like it went well until the computer rebooted for the last time before it reaches the " Setting up for first use " dialog Though before this was able to happen the computer went into a reboot loop with bsod 0x0000001E

After a large amount of reluctant clicking The computer NOW only boots to the System Recovery Options window and the ONLY option is Startup Repair ; There is NO command prompt no diagnostics, nothing, Just Startup Repair, in which start up repair is unable to do anything and continues to loop itself with a Don't send dialog

I have tried inserting the installation disk and accessing the Repair Computer but it presents an incompatibility error.

I have no F8 menu at all, (no safe mode, which I can't access anyway because the computer can't set up for first use).

Windows 7 Won't Boot (Can't Even Boot Startup Repair)

Aug 8, 2012

Hardware Information (This is from memory and may not be completely accurate):The computer model is emachines The processor is a dual core Intel Pentium The graphics card is NVIDIA (Can't remember the model.)4GB of RAM installed Software Information (Also from memory, but this is likely to be more accurate than the hardware.): Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Antivirus software is Comodo Internet Security - Also the firewall (product information).I often used Advanced System Care for optimization.-product information.after searching the internet for ways to fix my problem for the past three days, I'm at a complete loss. I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless. So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive. After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work. The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)
