Computer Freezing/Hanging A Few Minutes After Boot-up?
Nov 20, 2012
So for the past day I have been having a problem with my PC. I booted it up and within two minutes the whole thing froze, I couldn't Ctrl-Alt-Del or anything, so i figured something just went kaboom and decided to restart. Same thing happened.. so I decided to boot into Safe mode. The safe mode boot worked fine and I've prob alley booted into Safe Mode at least 20 times the past day and it only froze once.I don't know if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue or what, but It's really frustrating. I have run MSE and it can't find any viruses. Also, when I try to play music/or open a file,my computer hangs and it takes like 20 seconds of the little circle loading mouse icon for anything to happen, and sometimes this will also trigger the computer to downright freeze.
So far I have tried :Going into MSCONFIG and disabling startup/processes = Did not work System Restore : Delays the freezing for a little while but it comes back after a couple hours, the Hdd/sdd hanging is still present = did not work Ran a chkdsk = said it was fine Ran the WD HDD Diagnostic tool = said hdd was fine Did something called sfc /scannow (i think that's it) ... = said i was fine This is a custom built PC i made and I have had it for a month and a half, I also checked for loose cables but did not see any.
Specs :
CPU: i5 3570k

HDD: WD Black 1TB
Ram : 8gb g.skill Ram
PSU: 750w OCZ
Mobo : ASRock Z77 Xtreme4
OS : Windows 7 64bit
Also, I have checked eventviewer and I get a lot of errors but they don't make sense and I don't think they are the problem.Error examples: The driver detected a controller error on DeviceIdeIdePort0. source: atapi Error Id: 11 NEXT Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. Source : WMI Error ID: 10

I've just been encountering a new problem. My computer just starts to hangup after just a few minutes of use. Programs lockup for minutes and even my mouse freezes for a few minutes at a time. I don't really know what could be causing it. No processes seem to be taking a lot of CPU usage, and there doesn't seem to be any suspicious processes either. Even as i type this, Google Chrome is freezing and unfreezing, but all my keystrokes are captured

So my screen freezes and cant move my mouse at that time. it came after i installed my amd bulldozer fx 6100 into my recent build (Msi 890fxa gd 65 board, gskill ripjaws f3-10666CL9D-9GBRL , msi radeon 6870 twinfrozr 3 and some sata 2 WD harddrive. It sometimes happend on my old build where was an amd phenom II x2 565 3.4ghz processor... Now its happening nearly every 15mins or so. After i defrag my 2year old harddrive it comes after 30-60minutes..I think its about the processor not being compatible to the memory and motherboard(OR the harddrive being 2years old and sata 2 and nomore in the markets, makes crappy noises even .Because the memory box says "Designed for Intel LGA 1156 platforms / Compatible whit Intel LGA 1155 sandy bridge and amd am3 CPUS.And their website says that the 890fxa gd65 board does not support that memory, but still detects and works in my build. My chipset in the motherboard is AMD am3 and supports am3+.

My windows 7, IE 8 is freezing, hanging quite a lot lately. It happens when I click on links in emails or go from one website to another while surfing. I have only email and a website page or pages open, so shouldn't be putting a lot of demand on memory. Do security settings cause this while checking security in the background before allowing page to come up. Often my mouse also freezes so I have to wait. When I start task manager (ctrl-alt-del), it reports all applications are running; however they are not.

When I'm trying to install Windows 7, it gets stuck, generally at "Completing installation", but sometimes before, at the first background screen... I can only get to "Completing installation" using the safe mode install. I've tried taking all unneccessary parts out, and used several different sticks of RAM.I've also tried different hard drives, different DVDs (the current one is a retail disk), and a different graphics card. When it freezes, the monitor will just go black - into standby - and I can't turn it back on. I've tried disabling the USB ports in the BIOS.[CODE]

My laptop was fine yesterday. All I did was take it home from college.I have Avast! anti virus, Lavasoft ad-aware and malwarebytes..so the chance of a virus infecting my system is low.Computer loads fine, gets to the login screen.I login.Computer sticks on the Loading screen.once it finally loads it just shows the taskbar and a black background. It does not seem to respond any more than that unless I press ctrl + alt + del which then allows me to use the computer as normal, however, as I say it takes about 20 - 30 minutes to get to there.my other account (the one I am using just now.) is not much better. It doesn't take 20 - 30 minutes ( about 1 - 2 minutes) and it loads fine without the black background problem.

I recently installed a WD 15k Raptor hard drive and my computer now takes about 7 minutes to boot up, it gets stuck at the starting screen, where no hard drive action will happen, then 7-8 minutes later there will be loads of activity then will start up, ive tried narrowing it down, by removing the old hard drive (because im using the other old hard drive that had the OS on for media) and just running the new one, but no luck, I also tried reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my old hard drive, which had no problems before, but the same effect, takes 7-8 minutes to boot. Ive even tried removing any new hardware I installed before it, but still the same problem, Ive asked a lot of people and Ive had various solutions, but no effect, I think its to do with the power supply, or the SATA cable and power addapter I purchased for the new hard drive. Ive also tried booting in safe mode, and it still takes the same time to boot.Computer spec:Processor: i7 870RAM: 8GBGPU: AMD Radeon HD6870HDD: WD 15k 300GB Raptor HDD, WD 5400 1TB HDDPSU: 500W

My computer has started freezing up with the cursor hanging constantly as the blue rotating circle as if something is loading. I can't access any programs or bring up the task manager but I can move the mouse. It started out happening infrequently when I would first start the computer. It would boot up normally but when I tried to start a program it would freeze and the only thing I could do was power off and restart.
Now it happens every time I start the computer unless in safe mode, which works with no issue. Usually within the first 5 minutes after booting up the computer freezes. I have been able to open some programs or games in full screen and play normally but I am unable to alt+tab out of the game. When I exit to the desktop, everything is locked up as if the freeze has already occurred in the background.
I am running Windows 7 64bit SP1
Intel Core i5-3570k CPU
8GB RAM
GeForce GTX 670 GPU

I have an HP Pavilion G42-303DX. It's only about 8 months old. About 3 weeks ago after turning it on, a screen came up saying the cooling fan wasn't working and continued use could result in lost files. I went ahead and continued so I could backup files. Later in the day the fan made a funny noise and then started again. Since then it has been working. A few days ago the laptop started freezing randomly during use. The last couple of days it has been freezing every 10-15 minutes or so. I have to hold in the button to turn it off. I don't know if this is due to the fan maybe not properly cooling the laptop. According to HP my warranty has already ran out (I thought they typically lasted a year?). I imagine it would be cheaper at a repair shop than to send to HP if needed. But before I spent any money, I wanted to see if maybe it was a simple fix I could do myself. I ran startup repair and restored it to a previous day. It didn't fix the problem.

Recently after I tried to add another cooling fan into my NZXT phandom case my pc would turn on and freeze. Sometimes before the windows logo even comes on my mouse and keyboard lights would turn off. I have since disconnected the extra cooling fan but the problem did not go away. I have checked my temperatures and they are not very high. My only thought on this problem is that when I also tried to add a 2nd extra fan (which did not fit well with its clamps due to the graphics card being right below the location) onto my north bridge which at some time had a heat problem as all with this motherboard do but was fixed with a cooler. In trying to add the 2nd fan I might have moved the cooler slightly and messed up the thermal paste connection. However I am not completely sure because my temperatures seem normal and are not in the high range. The only problems or hints I can see are the freezing after several minutes after startup, not reaching the windows logo at all, and my mouse and keyboard lights not turning on when the pc does not reach windows logo before being a black screen.

The pc is about 3 years old.For the past 7-8 days, my computer is randomly restarting or freezing up. The problem persists till I restart it 3-4 times. Then it functions properly till the time it is shut down. On checking Event Viewer I saw that one of the reasons for the problem is given as 'The Network List Service service depends on the Network Location Awareness service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start". Two other reasons which are also there quite a few times are "DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments in order to run the server" and The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: AFD, CSC, DfsC"I have also noticed that after the first restart, the PC freezes even in the OS selection screen. All seems to be fixed after the 4th restart till the time I shut down. I am using Kaspersky and it is about to expire in a few days. If I remember correctly, the problem started on the day Kaspersky first giving reminders about renewing license. Can these be connected?

This morning i turned on my PC, and for the first few minutes it worked fine, but then it turned horrible. Everything froze when i attempted to click it or even hover my cursor over it. I tried to open task manager to shut down Firefox, but it took around ~20 minutes for task manager to open. Once everything was closed, I scanned with MBAM Pro and nothing was found, so I read about this on other sites. They said to clean the registry with a program called WiseCleaner. It took me 15 minutes to get it, but when it finished scanning it found 853 problems in the registry. I also defragmented the registry. Also, whenever I try to boot into safe mode, my computer freezes at CLASSPNP.SYS. Not sure what to do now, as no improvement was made.

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

in these past few days, long, 30-second hangs have been occurring increasingly frequently, with no more than a few seconds between hangs today. It starts out one program not responding at a time, then spreads to all the rest of the programs. Sometimes it's so bad that the computer ignores ctrl-alt-delete. I don't know what's causing it, but it is made more perplexing by the fact that no more than 10% of the i7-2600K cpu is being used at any time, and the programs only use 3-4 GB of 16 RAM.

It boots fine but when it gets to the windows 7 splash screen the log in box takes up to 20 mins to display. When it does display I can log in and the computer runs fine.I have tried:
- virus scan which is clean
- malwarebytes comes up with nothing
- restoring to before the problem started
But, the problems remains - up to 20 mins for the log in to appear. It is almost as if it forgets to put it up.

So I noticed it happen a long ways, few months back, but one time it hanged and I resetted and it was completely okay from then on. Considering it happened only once, I stupidly believed my friend that sometimes computers have little slip-ups.Now, recently, it would hang a few times at random moments. Sometimes a little after start-up, when it's loading all the programs from the start, at some times just...at a completely random moment. I would restart it, but sometimes upon pushing the restart button, it would sometimes turn off, then turn on again, and sometimes (everything is so randomly patterned) it would turn off. I would cut the power completely, wait a few minutes, and possibly try again. By now I'm getting more and more anxious as this action increases at every moment.Goggling does little help since 'hanging' computers is such a broad broad topic, but I think it might be a hardware issue?
I'm not sure how to clean my CPU since admittedly, I don't want to touch anything in case I screw up. I know well enough about static and all that but I am not in a country that provides all the computer parts and necessities in the world.I'm not sure what else to take and do to proceed. I'm a little iffy, admittedly, at installing strange programs. I reaallly don't want to screw this up because I'm not exactly able to afford much since I'm just a high schooler. No BSODs for this issue. It hasn't BSOD'd in the lonnnnngest time. Just hangs at the screen.

Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with Vista on it had all sorts of issues. I cleaned them all up, but couldn't stop it from hanging. Seemingly random. Complete and permanent freeze requiring 10 seconds on the power button to restart.
Eventually decided to move to Win 7 RC. Formatted hard disk completely (with BootIt NG) before installing. Still having the same problem.
Memtest86 reports no issues (after 47 hours).
Chkdsk no errors.
sfc.exe no errors.
Hitachi dtf no errors (although it's a Toshiba drive).
All the regular spyware, adware, malware programs - no issues.
Interestingly, the problem doesn't seem to occur in Safe mode or when performing chkdsk, installing Windows, or anything else outside the main windows environment. This leads me to believe it's not hardware, but some system/software element common to both Vista and Windows 7?
I'm using a Lenovo 3000 N100. 1.73GHz, 1gig ram, 32 bit Win 7, version 6.1, build 7100.
Also, I'm currently trying to run a Windows Update from within Safe Mode With Networking, but it's not working. Should it be?

I currently have it set to turn off my displays at 3 minutes of inactivity, and put the computer to sleep after 10 minutes.Sometimes, the displays won't turn off after 3 minutes, but it will then put the computer to sleep after 10 minutes while the displays are still on. More often, it will turn the displays off, but won't ever put the computer to sleep. Why wouldn't the computer go to sleep?Wouldn't any activity turn the displays back on? And so if they don't come back on, why wouldn't it go to sleep?why wouldn't the displays turn off, and then it goes to sleep?

I have a desktop, custom built, that has been a nightmare since day one. Anyway, last time I brought it in for repairs they checked the motherboard and RAM- it was all fine, and they replaced my hard drive. For the past month or so, my computer will freeze or hang while I'm in the middle of working on something. I'm a photographer and it usually happens when photoshop is left sitting open for a few minutes. Firefox will freeze and so will PS and Bridge. When it freezes, nothing works. Ctrl+alt+delete will work to open the task manager, but it won't actually end any tasks when I try. I am forced to hold the power button down to shut it off. About 3 days ago I got a message upon start up saying that I needed to check disk but immediately said that it couldn't check disk due to a corruption? Stating that a recently installed software was the problem and I needed to do a system restore. I tried to do a system restore to before I installed my machforms update and it wouldn't let me! Stated that the c drive is corrupt and I need to do a check disk. So it's sending me in a circle and I can't complete either. Today, when I booted I received a lovely grey screen. This happened about 7 times before it booted normally. I tried to boot in safe mode but it froze.

I have a peculiar problem with my lappy. Once I start it the system runs for sometime (usually for 15mins to 1-2hours) and then it suddenly hangs for 15-20mins. When the system hangs, the mouse becomes a circle and nothing seems to be moving. This problem started after I installed Spybot S & D. Although I have uninstalled S & D, the problem still persists. Currently I see some of the folders in my C drive appear like Hidden Files.

My comuter normally takes about 2 minutes to boot up. Unfortunately yesterday it just hanged after the first black screen with the windows symbol in the middle and after about 10-15 minutes there was a message that it could not boot and tried to do an automatic repair. The message later said it could not repair the problem automatically and would send an error message on line. It booted up fine into safe mode and I deleted my graphics card driver in case that was the problem. I used a third party programme to run a disk check and now it will eventually boot up into windows after hanging on the same screen for 10 to 15 minutes which is very frustrating - the graphics card driver was automatically loaded after it boot up into Windows with no option of a roll back. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 service pack 1 and also upgraded my ATI Raedon 4300/4500 series Graphics card driver to version to 8.821.0.0 dated 26-1-10.

I'm not sure if this is the ISO (doubt it) or my hardware (more likely).
I have motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
BIOS version F2 (updated today 12/12/2009)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 245
RAM: ddr2 800, 4GB (2x2GB)
Windows: 7 Ultimate 64bit
Video: GeForce 8800 GT 512MB, PCI-Expressx16 -- latest driver
from nvidia (downloaded today 12/12/2009)
Monitors: two (2) 19" Widescreen LCD. One is DVI, another is VGA+adapter=DVI.
Problem:
Win7 setup (install) -> first restart -> bios finished -> blank/black screen for 10 minutes (or so)... then win7 loads and resumes fine.
This 10-min delay happens every time win7 restarts. Note that this happens even initial setup/install, no other programs installed yet.
Previous OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit, SP2. No problem with booting.
I have tried unplugging one monitor, switching, using the onboard ... all with same result.
Can anyone help me, I'm desperate -- about to ditch win7 and go back to XP pro.

Just received a new computer. The specs:
Dell 2305 All-in-One
Windows 7 64-bit
8 gb RAM
AMD Athlon II X4 610E processor
Blu-ray combo drive (Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5504H)
Everything works fine except the time it takes to rip my CD's. Using Windows Media Player or Media Center on my other computer, it takes about 2 minutes. On the new Dell, my computer temporarily freezes after ripping the first track, and then will take at least 20 minutes to complete.under the heading of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, there are no channels listed. So I can't enable DMA. The only thing listed is "AMD Sata Controller". Is this a problem with the AMD controller drivers? I've installed the latest from the Dell site. Should I uninstall the AMD controller driver and try to install the Windows 7 drivers instead?
