How To Repair USB3 Ext Drive When Power Or USB Connector Breaks
Jan 8, 2013
just recently I had the power connection fail on an INTENSO USB3 ext drive -- as it was a 3GB drive I didn't want to lose all the data on it.Anyway I cracked open the case and it was simply a 3GB SATA Barracuda 7200 RPM normal HDD with a power and USB connector card embedded in the case.So I just removed the HDD and connected it up into a SATA slot on my desktop and it works fine as an INTERNAL drive (still fast too). Also frees up a valuable USB3 slot on my computer. (I only have 2 USB3 slots so each one is valuable). If I really want to use this as an external drive then I'd just get another SATA==>USB3 enclosure --but the disk is a bit heavy to use as a portable.
( I got the INTENSO drive for 70 EUR -- so even breaking it up it's still a bargan for a 3TB Barracuda SATA drive - whish Id' bought to or 3 of these and converted them to INTERNAL HDD's. !!).eems most of these larger external powered (not self powered) USB drives are simply normal HDD's contained in a SATA==>USB2 or USB3 container.
can I use a 6-pin graphic card when I only have 4 pins on my motherboard? I want to upgrade to a gtx 550 ti, and my motherboard is Asus P5KPL AM-SE. Can I use this card?
For some reason my USB 3.0 4-port hub is being seen as a USB 2.0 hub. I've tried unplugging the usb 3 cable and rebooting and reattaching the cable to my USB 3.0 Card, but it still sees as a USB 2 hub
My OS is win 7 32bit and I'm using office outlook 2007. I've been using yahoo and Google accounts through outlook 2007 without any problems. But for hotmail account, I found out that I had no choice but to use outlook connector, so I downloaded and installed it and added my hotmail account. But when I click inbox, nothing happens.
I recently posted about a problem I was having with Outlook Connector, thinking I'd broken it after initially installing it successfully. So, after removing and reinstalling it, I was delighted when it worked fine all over again. Both my Hotmail and Outlook Pop3 accounts were syncronising in both places and in turn on my Windows phone.
Now 2 days later and having altered nothing, my hotmail emails are only being delivered to Hotmail and my Pop3 account emails only to my Outlook! And subsequently my phone is only syncing to Hotmail!
I've not touched anything but something's changed and not working how I need it!! Is this a common bug? I seem to recall reading something somewhere about Connector only working for a day?
I just got the Cisco valet connector for my desktop and I plug it in and run the setup file which is on the device, but I can't get it to connect to the network. It's running Windows 7 64bit. I've searched google and I was on the phone with customer service and still no solution.
I have had a Sandisk Sansa Fuze MP3 with its own USB to recharge battery and add/delete music. Suddenly, my computer won't recognize the USB connector and I am told Code 34 is the issue.
I re installed audio drivers from HP but my notebook Windows 7 sound is still broken/choppy/halting especially while I'm opening another window or doing something else on or off line. how I can get smooth audio back? I run AVG & McAfee anti virus, but my machine is also slow, perhaps I have some kinds of virus, Is there a safe secure free antivirus that's trustworthy and actually works not just a sales pitch?
I have a nice new Gigabyte X79-UP4 motherboard, and it is behaving for the most part, however the USB3 ports are not working. Drivers for the port installed fine (from the disk that came with the motherboard) however it is not recognizing either USB3 or USB2 peripherals.
Device Manager reports that the USB3 ports are fine -
I did download the newest Fresco Logic drivers from Gigabyte and the package failed on install with the message below -
Even though the installer failed I was able to go through Device Manager & update the drivers, but unfortunately there has been no improvement in functionality - USB3 and USB2 still do not work.
I have tried several installer packages, from different locations, and all have failed!
I put in a SSD drive and now my two USB3 drives dont work. I hook up the 2 USB3 drives and installed the drivers and one work for a little while but the other wouldnt work at all. With the other hard drive I had in before that my Windows 7 was on both USB3 drives work just find. I called up Western Digital and you only have a 30 day tech support and can buy one for $14 or send them in. But they work fine until I put in the SSD drive.
This new USB3.0 ext HDD seems to be in an almost constant state of Windows thinking it is unplugged, then just plugged back in, back and forth. I had to shut autoplay on it off because it would happen at least once a minute, sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes a couple minutes. The drive and case are brand new, but this is just like what was happening with my old drive via eSATA. I thought something was just wrong with the drive or my eSATA port, but now this. I know the USB3.0 port is fine because I have plugged in flash drives (even a 3.0 one) and connected other drives via 2.0 in it, with no problem. As for the eSATA ext HDD at least, this was happening a couple months ago before I wiped my system, and is still happening now. New OS install changed nothing.
These drives show up as known and installed in Device Manager. Disk Management's info is correct. Acronis is the same. Sometimes they just need a coaxing from "Scan for Hardware Changes" to even try to let me do anything. Windows Explorer, though, shows it all on its own, when it does think it's plugged in. (& yes, the plug fits quite snugly into the port, all is fine there.) Also, on my fiance's rig, both drives are also behaving exactly as the should. It's something over here...what could be causing my system to have trouble keeping these external drives onboard?
I've used Outlook for a few years and have set up a bunch of personal folders for things such as online receipts for the past few years. I now use Outlook Connector (so I can sync my HTC phone) and have just tried moving each of those folders into my "@hotmail.com" folder, which is now the default. My logic being that by doing so, each of these folders will now be backed up online in my Hotmail account too. However, a pop up message appeared, stating that there was some kind of sync issue and would I like to try to repair this? I clicked ok and long story short, the folders are now no longer in their original folder locations or in the locations that I had moved them to. My inbox is also now filled with old emails that I've already replied to and subsequently deleted and some of my draft emails have returned to states that are not my most recent edits.I think Outlook Connector had stopped working correctly a while back, as my Outlook inbox and Hotmail inbox were not syncronised, and it's now returned to some earlier state or something?
I've had this issue in Build 7100 X86 and X64 and 7600 X64. I've used both the Default Driver and the Driver directly from Intel. I have an Intel Mobile 4 Express graphics card.
I recently, well I say recently but it was late 2011 I decided on building a new RIG, the final hardware change was my external HDD which I bought last week and a couple of days ago I connected and copied everything from my old HDD to the new one. It's insanely fast, USB3.0 is really fast. Although, coupled with Buffalo utilities it's even faster. When I restarted my system after configuring everything in the Buffalo utilities I restarted and it was fine everything was working as it should be until I used my PC today and it booted really slow. In fact it was so slow I had to reboot it again and it was even slower than before. I disconnected the HDD and rebooted and it was there in a flash...? Okay, this is odd, I have come across this before with an external HDD but this is the first time that I've encountered a problem with USB3.0.Scratching my head and coatie I pondered on what is potentially causing the problem, I then had a EUREKA moment. The Buffalo utilities use RAMDISK which is basically a virtual HDD which uses RAM. I delayed the boot of Buffalo Utilities and rebooted and it was fine. Whatever is causing the slow boot it's being caused by Buffalo. If I delay the loading of the software it's fine.
i recently bought a USB3 2.5" 1TB toshiba drive and it works fine on my USB3 ports but it doesn't work on my USB2 ports. Non of the people i have asked seem to know why. i Have 3.5" usb3 2TB that works on both USB3 and USB2, so the only thing i can think of is that the 2.5" draws more power from the USB3 ports thus allowing it to run.
I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 from XP, and I am using the Microsoft Natural Keyboard with the old ps/2 input. The problem is in Windows 7, the underscore on the keyboard does not work, it input a different character, so I am trying to find the original software drivers for it.
I have the situation where a directory path has changed and I have emails that have hyperlinks to files (in the emails) that point to the old path. In my old Unix days I would have just created a link using ln command. In Windows I can create a shortcut to the old directory (which works in explorer), but the name I create has a .lnk extension. This seems to break the hyperlink.Does anyone know a way to make the old path valid so that the hyperlinks work?xample:Hyperlink points to c:ax.doc c:a is renamed c: shortcut c:a created pointing to c: off course c:a is actually c:a.lnk in Windows Hyperlink broken In my real situation the moved directory sits in the middle of a long path.
so i dont know what happened to my hard drive but it went blank, so not it real life but i have a very very old computer. Its one of em hp media center pc's from the 2007 or the 2006. my intel thingy is intel platinum 4. my windows is windows 7 and when i launch the system repair disk it does not sense my hard drive and when i dont launch a disk in the computer and i boot it it says "please insert a boot disk or press a key to boot thingy"
I installed Windows 7 and after the Completing Installation part it rebooted like it should and then after restarting my PC gets stuck at the BIOS. All BIOS Controls do NOT work. I can't access the BIOS nor the Boot Menu.
I am running 64bit Windows 7 on a DX58SO motherboard with the latest bios and board drivers downloaded from intel.- Windows 7 has all of the updates installed. After I installed SP1 I noticed that I had a yellow exclamation mark by the network adapters icon in the device manager applet with the error displayed as:
WAN Miniport (Netwprk Monitor) #2 This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
The drivers as identified in the properties sheet (ndistapi.sys and ndiswan.sys) are in fact located in their proper location in Windows/System32/Drivers/
I tried to uninstall the Wan Miniport to see if a restart would load the drivers but Windows would not allow it to be uninstalled. My network is working OK so what exactly does the Network Monitor do?
I'm using Foobar v1.1.11 and I am experiencing a random breaks in music playback, for a fraction of second like when you plug in a earphone jack.
I have the latest updated drivers from Realtek(check sys specs). There is no problem in playback in WMP. I am using Foobar for the past one year with the Dolby Headphones DSP, but disabling it wont help either. I do not want to switch to WMP.
I tried searching for this issue or similar but it's an unusual one and difficult to search for so I'm hoping I've not overlooked a thread that contains the issue already.
Essentially I have the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium and everything is fine until I install the Asus Xonar D2X drivers. I've tried at least 3 versions of the drivers that I could find online. The drivers themselves work and the software installs correctly, once installed the sound works and I get the Xonar control panel.
However, once those drivers are installed most of the applications I have, Firefox, Internet Explorer, MSN, Windows Update, etc etc stop functioning properly. In order to make them function I have to set them all to run as administrator giving the UAC prompt and also meaning that some plugins etc within the apps don't function properly.
I've managed to narrow it down to just the Xonar audio drivers through a process of elimination and system restores and it is 100% reproducible.
Curiously using my motherboard's supplied soundcard works perfectly so I'm using that as a temporary work around until I can find a resolution to the problem.
My IT department pushed KB2468871 (among others) to me and it stopped my Windriver Tornado compiler / linker from working. It seemed to mess up the parameter passing so that when the linker (ld) ran there were no input files.
I need a GOOD usb3 card and front bay hub for my computer. Bought a SIIG SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Bay Hub+Host Kit Model JU-H40411-S1 back in Nov but have had major problems with it from day one and now believe it was partially responsible for trashing my Enyo and SuperTalent RC8. Over a month now of dealing with Siig has gotten me nowhere. The unit is totally dead, not recognized by anything and they keep wanting me to do a 32bit firmware upgrade. I keep telling them that I am running a 64bit Windows 7 Pro but that does not seem to soak in. Absolutely the worse customer service I have ever dealt with since 1969. I have about decided that no one makes a good quality add-on setup but am hoping I have missed something in my research. Really hate to dump my motherboard in order to get front usb3 ports.
i have the drivers downloaded. ive gotten it to work once but then i ended up deleted the amd driver thinkinin i didnt need it.
ive did the registry that everyone talks about. no luck. when i set my motherboard to ahci in the bios it never recognizs my hard drive only my optical dvd drive.
Im interested in setting up a multi monitor setup. My main monitor will be for gaming, and the other will be for web browsing/server admin clients. Could i run one monitor off my GPU and the other off my Core i5's integrated GPU via the built in HDMI connector? or would this cause a confusion with windows? the reason i ask is because i cant see my ATI 6950 handeling both BF3 and another monitor,
What is the name of the cable that will connect into the small (male) part of this connector ? On this page they mention a Molex Adapter, when I search for Molex Adapter I don't find a female connect with a power adapter.
when I registered and put all the information about my computer in you all can see that which should save me some time. I've been running my Windows 7 x64 machine for about 3 weeks without problem. All of my programs are installed on the SSD and the HDD is for data files. Simple. Easy.I run dual display with no problem, 1920x1080 on the 24" LED (DVI), and extended to a 19" LCD (VGA).My dad was kind enough to buy me a 32" 1080p Insignia TV for christmas. I bought a cheap HDMI cable online, and when it came in the mail i decided I would set my computer up to have 3 monitors. (I didn't know that my graphics card only supports 2 at a time, I know this now.)So I plugged in the HDMI Cable to the TV and to the Computer. The 24" LED screen (my main one) Twitches for a moment then returns to normal, the TV comes on, and the 19" LCD goes blank. All is good except Aero magically shut off. After fiddling with the display settings and realizing i can only have two monitors at a time. I decide on the 24" and the 32" for now, but leave all three plugged in. I restart the computer in hopes of returning Aero. THe computer takes a VERY long time to start up and when it does, i'm presented with a dialog telling me that a page file has been created for me. My page file SHOULD have been on my HDD (to keep room on my SSD, with 8GB of RAM i didnt think page file was THAT important).
I click the dialog and the page file settings open up. i go to check and make sure they are correct, but when i select the HDD from the listbox, everything stops working right. Page file dialogs go not responding. I open task manager and all looks good in processes. Start bar won't open. It looks like the computer is thrashing, but it never gets around to catching up with itself, so i shut it off and try again with the same results. Then i unplug everything but the DVI monitor, the mouse and the keyboard, and try again... same results. Tried safe mode... same results.so i shut it off and let it be for a day (i was pretty frustrated)I come back today, turn it on and it hangs forever on the 'Starting Windows' boot screen.I shut it off and figure.. I didnt have that much on there, I might as well wipe the drive and start from scratch, thats the easiest solution, so i pop in the Windows 7 x64 DVD, reboot the machine, all looks good, and i go for install, and it Hangs forever on the 'Setup is starting' screen with a spinning wheel cursor. One more time i restarted the computer without the disc booted 'normally' and it hung on the 'Starting Windows' screen for a little while, then entered CHKDSK. I let that run, and for the last 20 minutes, it's been sitting saying 'CHKDSK is verifying Usn Journal...'
