after installing Kaspersky pure in my computer, I got rid of the System fix virus but all the missing files or links,I did the uhhide from this forum and claimes back my desktop icons, but my startup menu still shows empty files,I cant seem my microsoft office and others
View 2 RepliesI recently followed procedures for removal a rogue Windows 7 Recovery malware application on my Windows 7 Home Premium system. After the successful removal of the malware, my Start Menu Programs are all missing (basically nothing in there) and 95% of all my icons (on the desktop, within Win Explorer) are all grayed-out. (They still work but are gray). I have a feeling it could be a corrupted user profile, but I'm not sure. So far, I've restarted twice, right-clicked the start button to make sure default settings are set, ran a CMD prompt with SFC /SCANNOW.

I believe this is self-inflicted. I'm running Windows 7/64 on a Dell N7010 laptop. It has a OS (C:) drive (58.5GB) and a Local Disk (D:)drive (527GB). I originally found the "C" drive becoming full. Not being overly computer savy, I tried to move program files and any large files I could locate to the "D" drive. Everything seemed to work fine, until this virus. Now I believe the computer is reverting back to the original location of these files on the "C" drive, and I'm not sure on how to link them back to my All Programs menu.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have successfully formatted my second HD into 3 partitions: Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 64 bit, and XP. The startup menu works fine but the two Windows 7 lines are the same. I may not be using the correct term for startup menu, but it is the one that appears when dual booting. Anyway, I would like to find the file so I can change the two identical lines to different lines. That is, instead of both saying "windows 7" I can change them to "Windows 7 x86" and Windows 7 x64" or something like that. Anybody know where that file is?

And all of it has the logo for VLc media player? so basically when i click it it loads on that program but it will not load it as it only does media files. And all the time I have to right click to say open file location then it finally loads the program. So my question is how do I put it all back to normal? I'll post a screenshot so you can better understand what I am talking about.

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Somehow I have lost the "Pin to Start Menu" and "Pin to Task Bar" options when I right click on a program's icon whether it is running or not. Another strange thing is that when I right click on My Computer and select "Manage Computer", I get an error message that there is no program associated with that command. I ran "sfc /scannow" and it returned "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." So I am at a loss. I do recall seeing an option to remove those privileges somewhere, but I cannot for the life of me remember which program I saw it in.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCurrently running windows 7 64 bit. My problem is that my windows will not boot up and will just sit at the 'loading' screen forever and nothing will happen. I've tried using the system restore function but whenever it loads to the blue screen the window pops up for not even a second and goes away. I've tried running a repair/install disk and running in safe mode does not work either. Also the F8 functions won't do anything either, restore to a working point etc. I've scanned for malware and nothing shows up. Windows was working just fine until I normally restarted it and this problem occurred. I'm not sure what the next step I should take to fix this problem is.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently ran into frustration trying to save or make new any files in the root C: directory, with Windows7 Home Premium being set by default, of course, to not allow this. I did a cursory skim of some information online about changing these settings, and made some changes a bit hastily. Specifically, for the C: drive I took ownership of every subdirectory and gave my account full permissions under security. Annoyingly, this didn't fix the original issue of saving to that drive (which I no longer care about anyway), and it caused (at least) two new problems. Now my start menu has far fewer listings than it used to have; I imagine some programs were listed in it based on the previous permissions. I tried to do a system recovery, both through the OS and with a recovery disc, and that does not work either. It lists restore points, but after restarting it says that the restore was unable to complete.Can I fix the permissions and ownership of just the restore directory and program components, enough to run one, and revert?Or, failing that, is there a way to undo recent ownership changes made? I poked around in the Event Viewer, but it's not laid out very clearly.It's ok if it's not possible or easy to do it this way; I can grab just my vital files and completely reinstall Windows if it's absolutely necessary, but it seems excessive. I doubt the system restore files are corrupted. More, let's say, confused.Let me know if you need any of the error message codes. Somehow they never seem useful. Screenshots forthcoming.

A friend helped me get rid of the virus(I think), but a lot of my stuff still seems to be hidden. Unhide.exe got back my desktop icons, and some of my Start Menu, but I'm still missing almost all of the right side of said start menu. The Control Panel, Help and Support, Search, etc etc.I have Windows 7.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhat I had initially: Quote: 120 GB hardisk divided into 3 partitions.1st partition (22.2GB) with XP, second partition (30GB) with win 7 and rest (60 GB) as mass memory for storage.What I did: Quote: Installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS desktop 32 bit with USB on the partition which had XPFor that I had to format it and convert to ext4 and also create a swap memory of ~3GB.Thus I finally have 1 partition with ubuntu another with win 7 and another with mass memory.Now, Problem:MBR got damaged as win XP partition was formatted (which had bootloader) and thus I can't login to win 7 from Ubuntu Grub.To solve this problem I had to create a USB recovery disk for Windows 7. But now the problem is even after using bootrec command which gave sucess result for fixmbr, fixboot, scanos and rebuildbcd i am not able to boot into win 7. The computer just hangs after bootup with a blinking cursor.

If I alt cntrl delete, I can't click anything, including the task manager. It seems like a problem with explorer, it happens every time I restart the computer and I cannot figure it out. (a little side note, I use rocketdock... completely unresponsive).
Each time I start my system, I get an error in the Event Viewer:

I have Windows 7 on Intel D945GPM MB, 3 GB RAM. System always reboots itself several times duing startup (3-4 times, including 1-2 BSOD). Took 4-5 minutes. After 3-4 times, Windows 7 loads normally, then I can use it the whole day without any problem what-so-ever.
After I shut it down or go into hibernate, then I have to repeat this multiple reboots again each time.
I read extensively about it. If it is driver or hardware issue, I don't understand why it ends up stable after 3-4 times. I don't have any problem with any problem with devices after Windows loads up eventually. The reboots only happens during startup.
Safe mode or Windows repair does not make a difference. I tried them all. It is so strange. I just have to wait for system to reboots itself 3-4 times.
I went to check my msconfig today and I noticed my "Startup Selection" was set to "Selective Startup". I certainly do not recall doing this and have been having no problems with my computer so I was wondering if it's meant to be like this? Should I leave it alone or change it back to normal startup?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 on both my new Desktop and my 2 year old laptop. My laptop was the first to receive the upgrade to 7 and has been working awesomely. The start up is phenomenal and shutdown is no hassle, however my laptop runs on the 32 bit software. Now my desktop, I just recently upgraded it to 7 last week however I haven't noticed the same performance boost as I have on my laptop. I do run 64 bit on my desktop, but I am curious as to why the shutdown and startup times are rather slow.
I have gone as far as to limit the start up programs as well as some of the boot options being the GUI boot and maximizing the number of processors that are used during startup. Sometimes even during the start up the screen goes black for a few minutes after I enter my login password. I have Intel Quad Core 2 with 8GB Ram and TB of Hard Drive space. I just don't understand why it takes much longer to start and shut down when my laptop with less performance can.
