start and crawling along at startup. So I adviced he disable all programs except the antivirus at msconfig > startup. Next day he told me this at first worked right, but after another system start, he said the system got unstable with error dialog boxes showing up. My friend says he enabled all those programs back in msconfig > staI've learned a lesson: no matter how insignificant a change to a system, do a system backup, but...isn't it surprising that simply disabling a few programs not to start with windows can create such trouble?.
I have been doing some cleaning recently, and in the startup section of msconfig, startup options for programs that I deleted are still there. They're disabled, but how do I get rid of them from the list completely?.
Running windows 7 and attempted to change startup through msconfig and received an access denied you are not a security admin message , but I am a security admin.
Yesterday my laptop froze, i could do nothing. I reset the laptop, and upon restart it took long for everything to load, and then froze again, then i tried system restore in safe mode but just got blanc screens, also managed to open system restore on normal login but aslo still blanc screen, then i opened task manager, complete blanc screen everywhere, msconfig the same. Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.
Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but...this morning I noticed an exclamation in my taskbar that services were not running. I looked for services.msc in the search in the start button, but nothing came up. I also typed in MSConfig in the search in the start button search, and again, nothing came up. I also cannot find anything that resembles "administrative tools" anywhere, The exclamation point has since disappeared and in the taskmanager, it appears to be working, but...why am I not seeing these items in my start button? Exactly what does services.msc do? I'm running the 64-bit Windows 7.
I'm resetting (from disabled) in msconfig. I had a glitch after installing sp1 that caused BSOD after login. After disabling startup and services i was able to login in normal (selective)startup. My question is whether the entire list of ms corp services need to be enabled or should i select a core set . I have been starting the ones I recognize and what not , but is there a windows 7 setup suggestion list or possible list of core services to enable.
I am having problem with my HP Multimedia Keyboard, all the drivers are installed for Windows 7 (SP44446) kbd.exe is in starup in msconfig, but when I start windows, this process won't starts as before.I uninstall and reinstall but the problem still there, and I need to start it manually.

I have a quad-core AMD Athlon II 640 Processor. I always figured I have all 4 cores running at the same time, but today I noticed in msconfig>boot>advanced>number of processors that the default number of processors is one. I've recently had a number of freezes, and wondered if i were to increase the number of processors, would my computer's behavior change at all?
I have a file (spider.exe) is starting up when pc is started, I want to disable this file from startup, it is not shown on msconfig neither startup delayer.
I have an ASUS notebook running windows7 and 4g memory. I changed the msconfig boot.ini /MAXMEM from its default (an uncheked box, but I presume 4096) to 256 while trying to get a program to load. Saved and rebooted, now all I get is a BSOD with a stop error. since I cant get back into windows , would anyone know how to change this parameter back to its default? restore points dont work, automatic repairs dont work either.
my OS is windows 7 just wondering what startup programs i can disable in system configuration and more importantly which ones i shouldnt disable, or does it even matter. i just want to get max performance from my pc. i have attached my startup snapshot. also do all services need to be enabled in sys config.?
I've searched the net and this forum but can't seem to find an answer. I'm sure it's probably simple but I've never seen it before when I was using XP.Why is there an entry in Startup titled "Windows Operating System"?I'm loathe to uncheck it, I just don't understand why it would be there?
I run Windows 7 32 bit.Recently I noticed when I start up the computer AVG get's an immediate run time error and I cant' turn it back on Explorer (not internet explorer) is unresponsive. For example I can't even rename a file, it wont' let me
If I alt cntrl delete, I can't click anything, including the task manager. It seems like a problem with explorer, it happens every time I restart the computer and I cannot figure it out. (a little side note, I use rocketdock... completely unresponsive).
after installing Kaspersky pure in my computer, I got rid of the System fix virus but all the missing files or links,I did the uhhide from this forum and claimes back my desktop icons, but my startup menu still shows empty files,I cant seem my microsoft office and others
I have Windows 7 on Intel D945GPM MB, 3 GB RAM. System always reboots itself several times duing startup (3-4 times, including 1-2 BSOD). Took 4-5 minutes. After 3-4 times, Windows 7 loads normally, then I can use it the whole day without any problem what-so-ever.
After I shut it down or go into hibernate, then I have to repeat this multiple reboots again each time.
I read extensively about it. If it is driver or hardware issue, I don't understand why it ends up stable after 3-4 times. I don't have any problem with any problem with devices after Windows loads up eventually. The reboots only happens during startup.
Safe mode or Windows repair does not make a difference. I tried them all. It is so strange. I just have to wait for system to reboots itself 3-4 times.
I went to check my msconfig today and I noticed my "Startup Selection" was set to "Selective Startup". I certainly do not recall doing this and have been having no problems with my computer so I was wondering if it's meant to be like this? Should I leave it alone or change it back to normal startup?
i have a mini netbook with windows 7 starter and since yesterday every time i start it up it shows me this system information window and pressing esc does nothing what can i do..
I recently bought Windows 7. Sometimes when I start my computer, the USB will not work at the login screen. No keyboard or mouse works. If I get past the login, windows finds all my external hd's and starts to scan them. I think this is a problem with the USB.
