View 0 RepliesSystem Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time. The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAt my school, every time you shut down the computer it wipes all user data (I believe) from the primary drive (or partition). So, every time the computer is started the primary drive/partition reverts to whatever restore point the IT department has set. I would like to do this to my personal computer, but the question is how? Is it something I can set the task scheduler to do? By doing some research I found that I can (not that I want to) create a new restore point at every start up with task scheduler, so it seems only logical that I can load a restore point of my choice at every start up without having to physically go into system restore at every start up.
I have 2x 600GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration divided into 2 partitions. The (primary) C: contains Windows 7 Pro x64 and related files and the (secondary) G: has everything else (i.e. all of my developer tools, games, and misc files that all have a scheduled back up onto an external). I would like the C: to revert to the restore point of my choice at every start up. If it is a "simple" script to perform this task...great! But, if it requires extreme diligence (like an entire IT department to maintain)... forget it, it's not that big of a deal.
I want to have a Factory Reset of my computer. In order to launch a System Recovery, I need to create Restore Discs. When I launch the Recovery Disc Creation, it says:"This computer does not have a burning drive, which is required to make DVDs. Please contact HP Support for asistance."My computer did not come with a build in CD Drive. Even plugging in a USB CD Drive will not make creating the discs possible. So. I ask you. How can I reset my computer to Factory Condition?
Computer Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)
Model: HP Pavillion dm3 Notebook PC
edit: This notebook came with a Recovery Partition built in.
Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.
View 6 Replies View RelatedDo you guys know of a way to save a restore point and locking it that no matter what, it won't delete? I made a restore point and then installed Windows 7 service pack 1. The service pack screwed me so bad with software and hardware I used, I regret that I didn't do an acronis backup! When trying to fix the problems, I had reinstalled various drivers and uninstalled the Service pack, thus forcing Windows to create more automated restore points. Since my C drive is configured to use %30 of it's capacity for restore points, along the way, I guess my restore point was deleted because it's not in the restore points list, even if I check "show more restore points".I want to prevent this in the future so I am asking if if anyone knows how to create a restore point and LOCK it so no matter what, my restore point won't get deleted.

View 0 Replies View RelatedSo I tried posting my question on Microsoft Answers, to no avail. I kept getting an error message when clicking the submit button...don't know why though as they provided me with no details as to what could be causing the error.(In Order of most recent restore points) This is the list that I encountered after selecting Choose different restore point in the Restore system files and settings windows. [code] Final, least recent, or 6th restore point from the top called 4/2/2011 3:23:17 PM Windows Update affected programs:
--Every affected program and/or driver is the same as those listed in the 'Programs and drivers that will be deleted' list for the 5th restore point from the top.
--The only program not listed in affected program list in the 5th restore point form the top is the driver Brother (Printer) 07/08/2009 01.08.00.00, which I manually installed myself also.
--The 'Program and drivers that might be restored' list for the 6th restore point form the top has the same files, programs, drivers, or windows update, as the 'Programs and drivers that might be restored' list for the 5th restore point form the top.
As I asked earlier, I wanted help making a decision on what restore point I should use. Also, I wanted to know what is the best method and/or procedure when using system restore to set Window's setting back to an earlier restore point based on the details I gave up. How should I perform it or what precautions should I take, so that I encounter very little to no problems whatsoever?
I really must restore my PC to last night. I only gives me an option of either two days ago or earlier this morning though. How can I restore that exact time?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi was unable to create a restore point(or should i say the restore point which were created were all shown up with this following error earlier, Error message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Anyways,today as i was updating my display driver, while uninstalling the old display driver and installing the latest one,my system didn't accept the driver and thus my system went out of order(more preciously,as i uninstalled the whole catalyst control centre, every icon was appearing bigger and my display adapter was also deleted). now, coming back to the problem, when i tried to go back to a restre point ,i actaually managed to get all my previous settings back but after the completion of system restore that same message was again there which saidError message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Now,i am a bit confused to what actually happened as all my settings were back and the system was there in its previous setings but then why i got that error message?

View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my system I have an SSD, so I have (Windows Restore) turned off. When I download a program and try to install it, it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A long while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem, fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. What can I do to get things to install without Safe Mode?

I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

I recently downloaded a damaged file, which caused my computer (not this one) to be unable to start up normally. The computer now boots up in Startup repair, which is unable to repair my computer "automatically" and when I then click "View advanced options for system recovery and support" and go to the "System restore" tab and choose a Date and time for the restoration, it tells me that "There is not enough free space to restore the disk". I seem to have no options to try and sort out the missing space on the harddisk, which should be unnecessary because I am pretty sure there is still alot of disk space on the C.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just came upon a very strange problem with my computer today. I started it as usual, ran a TuneUp Utilities check (as I usually do) and, in the meantime, was prompted by my iTunes installer to install a new version of iTunes. I clicked OK on the install thing, then all of a sudden I get this message from the HP Support Assistant: Windows System Restore is not activated. So I go to the System Protection folder to try to manually enable it, but I get an error message that says an unexpected error occurred: System restore has found an error, try to run System restore again. I do this a thousand times, and the same message pops up.
So I run my Norton antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy. The Norton search comes up empty, but the SpyBot returns this: Babylon Toolbar and Win32.Downloader.bltu. So I click to fix the problems and an error message pops up in SpyBot saying I'm not running it as admin, so the problems can't be fixed. Well, my user account is an admin account (the only one I have in this computer), so there's obviously something very wrong here, for it seems like whatever this is, it's keeping me from executing whatever task may remove it. I also execute sfc /scannow from a command prompt and the returning message is that I cannot run sfc /scannow because I'm not an administrator.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that installing software or running Windows Update takes loads of time (6 minutes longer than usual) while the system otherwise appears to run quickly. Running Win7x64 and Security Essentials.
Upon troubleshooting, I found that my computer cannot make System Restore Points, and it apparently tries to do so for 6 minutes. I deleted all restore points, expanded the space to 100%, and turned off and on system restore, without any success - I cannot create a restore point. My VSS service seems to be running just fine. The specific error is EID: 8193, and the text is: Failed to create restore point (Process = C:Windowssystem32 undll32.exe /d srrstr.dll,ExecuteScheduledSPPCreation; Description = Scheduled Checkpoint; Error = 0x81000101).
