View 2 RepliesSystem Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time. The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.

View 11 Replies View RelatedDo you guys know of a way to save a restore point and locking it that no matter what, it won't delete? I made a restore point and then installed Windows 7 service pack 1. The service pack screwed me so bad with software and hardware I used, I regret that I didn't do an acronis backup! When trying to fix the problems, I had reinstalled various drivers and uninstalled the Service pack, thus forcing Windows to create more automated restore points. Since my C drive is configured to use %30 of it's capacity for restore points, along the way, I guess my restore point was deleted because it's not in the restore points list, even if I check "show more restore points".I want to prevent this in the future so I am asking if if anyone knows how to create a restore point and LOCK it so no matter what, my restore point won't get deleted.

View 0 Replies View RelatedSo I tried posting my question on Microsoft Answers, to no avail. I kept getting an error message when clicking the submit button...don't know why though as they provided me with no details as to what could be causing the error.(In Order of most recent restore points) This is the list that I encountered after selecting Choose different restore point in the Restore system files and settings windows. [code] Final, least recent, or 6th restore point from the top called 4/2/2011 3:23:17 PM Windows Update affected programs:
--Every affected program and/or driver is the same as those listed in the 'Programs and drivers that will be deleted' list for the 5th restore point from the top.
--The only program not listed in affected program list in the 5th restore point form the top is the driver Brother (Printer) 07/08/2009 01.08.00.00, which I manually installed myself also.
--The 'Program and drivers that might be restored' list for the 6th restore point form the top has the same files, programs, drivers, or windows update, as the 'Programs and drivers that might be restored' list for the 5th restore point form the top.
As I asked earlier, I wanted help making a decision on what restore point I should use. Also, I wanted to know what is the best method and/or procedure when using system restore to set Window's setting back to an earlier restore point based on the details I gave up. How should I perform it or what precautions should I take, so that I encounter very little to no problems whatsoever?
At my school, every time you shut down the computer it wipes all user data (I believe) from the primary drive (or partition). So, every time the computer is started the primary drive/partition reverts to whatever restore point the IT department has set. I would like to do this to my personal computer, but the question is how? Is it something I can set the task scheduler to do? By doing some research I found that I can (not that I want to) create a new restore point at every start up with task scheduler, so it seems only logical that I can load a restore point of my choice at every start up without having to physically go into system restore at every start up.
I have 2x 600GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration divided into 2 partitions. The (primary) C: contains Windows 7 Pro x64 and related files and the (secondary) G: has everything else (i.e. all of my developer tools, games, and misc files that all have a scheduled back up onto an external). I would like the C: to revert to the restore point of my choice at every start up. If it is a "simple" script to perform this task...great! But, if it requires extreme diligence (like an entire IT department to maintain)... forget it, it's not that big of a deal.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi was unable to create a restore point(or should i say the restore point which were created were all shown up with this following error earlier, Error message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Anyways,today as i was updating my display driver, while uninstalling the old display driver and installing the latest one,my system didn't accept the driver and thus my system went out of order(more preciously,as i uninstalled the whole catalyst control centre, every icon was appearing bigger and my display adapter was also deleted). now, coming back to the problem, when i tried to go back to a restre point ,i actaually managed to get all my previous settings back but after the completion of system restore that same message was again there which saidError message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Now,i am a bit confused to what actually happened as all my settings were back and the system was there in its previous setings but then why i got that error message?

A couple of times I have fired it up and the displayed time in the task bar has been wrong. Also have a clock widget on the desktop page which is about 5 hours out. Emails have time stamps which are way out. This sounds like a CMOS battery problem to me, but when I asked a 'Tech guy' from Packard Bell and enquired which battery type I need he assured me that the machine didn't have one! I have reset the clock using the bios - but the widget clock is still wrong.Time zones checked, OK. Must admit, haven't actually checked motherboard yet, but feel sure there MUST be a CMOS battery there.

When I download a program and try to install it, it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A long while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem, fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. What can I do to get things to install without Safe Mode?

I am the administrator. Someone I don't trust at all, used my PC a while back. After he (did whatever he did) I noticed I couldn't access several files. I get a "access denied" or you don't have permission to view this file, owner info etc.. I can see a lot of the files, but their either empty now or I can't view them. I have used restore many times in the past, but now I get a message " no restore points".. I don't know what he did, or if he did anything.. It could be one of my kids changed properties by mistake, before I wised up and created a basic user acct w/ limited access for them.. I almost forgot. When I go into file properties there is a red x by my user name (administrator) Not in every property, but several.. Sometimes there is a red x by other user names, as well, but mostly mine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed some updates in my Proline notebook, but after installing the 30 percent, it failed to restart, with the screen showing nothing (as if it's off). I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get 15 monitors working on my system. I have a gigabyte GA990fxaud5 motherboard with amd fx 8150, 8 core CPU and 16 gb dual channel Kingston ram. I also have 4x firepro 2450 video cards 3 of x16 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.and 1 of x1 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit I have 2 of the x16 cards installed and its working fine and it takes me to a black screen that says "loading operating system" and then everything else goes smooth and takes me to the windows os. When I run the system with these 2 video cards everything runs perfectly and I can get 8 outputs. The problem is, when I put the third card in the system, the system boots, gets passed the bios (where I can press esc to access bios) but then it takes me to a black screen with no further activity. It's when I place the third card in, is when this black screen occurs without having any message.Maybe the systems confused with this third card. Maybe it's something in windows 7 settings. Or maybe bios.I have installed this exact firepro driver: ATI FireGL?Do I need to have SLI or CrossFire to run multiple video cards? How do i do that for these video cards I have? What are the settings in the BIOS that will enable these 4 video cards. The expansion slots on the mb are compatible with the 4 cards and it does have enough grunt to handle these cards, but it's now getting all 4 cards to operate together on the os.

View 3 Replies View Relatedso everytime I log-in to my computer it basically restores back to a certian point. And also It starts as a black screen with nothing except for my mouse until I open Task manager and run explorer.exe which for some reason doesnt run on its own anymore. Its probably due to the fact that I wanted to put a cool theme on my computer and that involves replacing the explorer.exe file and explorerframe.dll file, and I did that. But then I decided I didn't need a theme so I put the original Explorer.exe and explorerframe.dll back on to replace the ones I put on before. It changed everything back to normal except for the start orb. I wanted the old start back or atleast a new one. So I got windows Start orb changer. It worked well for some time until at one point everytime I turned on my computer I got an error saying expstart.exe failed and something about bitmaps. and It just black screens until I run explorer.exe from the task manager...and goes back a day or so
