Upon troubleshooting, I found that my computer cannot make System Restore Points, and it apparently tries to do so for 6 minutes. I deleted all restore points, expanded the space to 100%, and turned off and on system restore, without any success - I cannot create a restore point. My VSS service seems to be running just fine. The specific error is EID: 8193, and the text is: Failed to create restore point (Process = C:Windowssystem32 undll32.exe /d srrstr.dll,ExecuteScheduledSPPCreation; Description = Scheduled Checkpoint; Error = 0x81000101).

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have Win 7 64 bit installed on my laptop as well as my desktop. System images for both are on external HD's.
On the laptop, I have created a system image on blank DVD's using DVD-R's. No problems -- I can restore from the DVD's.
However, when I try to create a system image on blank DVD-R's on my desktop, I get a message saying something like, "format was unsuccessful." If I use a DVD+RW the process runs to completion and I can restore from it. I had to use RW's because I don't have and +R's.
I get the same unsuccessful message if I try to format a blank DVD-R with Win 7.
My DVD burner on the desktop says it is a +R. Does that mean I can't use -R's.
I've no idea whether this is a Win 7 problem, burner problem or a problem on my part.
Would someone please try to straighten out the dense old mind?
I recently installed some updates in my Proline notebook, but after installing the 30 percent, it failed to restart, with the screen showing nothing (as if it's off). I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

Time and time again I see talk of an image backup. Why do I need that? I am given to understand win 7 has a restore point so if stuff fails one can go to the last restore point without losing too much. Why is this restore point not sufficient? Why do I need an image - how is it better/what exactly does that do? How large is it likely to get?

I started it as usual, ran a TuneUp Utilities check (as I usually do) and, in the meantime, was prompted by my iTunes installer to install a new version of iTunes. I clicked OK on the install thing, then all of a sudden I get this message from the HP Support Assistant: Windows System Restore is not activated. So I go to the System Protection folder to try to manually enable it, but I get an error message that says an unexpected error occurred: System restore has found an error, try to run System restore again. I do this a thousand times, and the same message pops up.
So I run my Norton antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy. The Norton search comes up empty, but the SpyBot returns this: Babylon Toolbar and Win32.Downloader.bltu. So I click to fix the problems and an error message pops up in SpyBot saying I'm not running it as admin, so the problems can't be fixed. Well, my user account is an admin account (the only one I have in this computer), so there's obviously something very wrong here, for it seems like whatever this is, it's keeping me from executing whatever task may remove it. I also execute sfc /scannow from a command prompt and the returning message is that I cannot run sfc /scannow because I'm not an administrator.
I want my system to automatically create a restore point before installing any program/software in it? How can set this up on my windows 7 64 bit laptop?

After going through the motions, I get a message that the restore failed due to an "unspecified error occurence at 0X80071a90. It doesn't matter what earlier restore point I choose.

The service pack screwed me so bad with software and hardware I used, I regret that I didn't do an acronis backup!When trying to fix the problems, I had reinstalled various drivers and uninstalled the Service pack, thus forcing Windows to create more automated restore points. --Every affected program and/or driver is the same as those listed in the 'Programs and drivers that will be deleted' list for the 5th restore point from the top.

As I asked earlier, I wanted help making a decision on what restore point I should use. Also, I wanted to know what is the best method and/or procedure when using system restore to set Window's setting back to an earlier restore point based on the details I gave up. How should I perform it or what precautions should I take, so that I encounter very little to no problems whatsoever?
At my school, every time you shut down the computer it wipes all user data (I believe) from the primary drive (or partition). So, every time the computer is started the primary drive/partition reverts to whatever restore point the IT department has set. I would like to do this to my personal computer, but the question is how? Is it something I can set the task scheduler to do? By doing some research I found that I can (not that I want to) create a new restore point at every start up with task scheduler, so it seems only logical that I can load a restore point of my choice at every start up without having to physically go into system restore at every start up.
I have 2x 600GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration divided into 2 partitions. The (primary) C: contains Windows 7 Pro x64 and related files and the (secondary) G: has everything else (i.e. all of my developer tools, games, and misc files that all have a scheduled back up onto an external). I would like the C: to revert to the restore point of my choice at every start up. If it is a "simple" script to perform this task...great! But, if it requires extreme diligence (like an entire IT department to maintain)... forget it, it's not that big of a deal.
I really must restore my PC to last night. I only gives me an option of either two days ago or earlier this morning though. How can I restore that exact time?

When I download a program and try to install it, it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A long while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem, fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive.The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.
