Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.
View 9 RepliesI have an acer aspire 5742 laptop. I was running windows 7. I do not have a disc as it was already loaded onto laptop that was a gift. Machine was running ok, it would overheat from time to time as i think the battery was on its way out, anyway thats not the problem. 2 days ago it switched itself off, when i tried to reboot i got a screen saying windows failed to start with options to -launch startup repair or - start windows normally. when i choose start startup repair it says in grey at bottom of screen loading windows files then it goes to a black screen and freezes. If i choose start windows normally it says starting windows and logo appears, then it just crashes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedComputer has been crashing randomly for about 3 weeks now. Typically its a problem on start up and if I keep trying it finally starts and stays stable. I have tried all the usual suspects, drivers, applications, safemode. Nothing makes any difference.

I've been having increasing problems with my Asus g73jh. Love the performance, but been having random crashes concerning video i assumed. Updated the graphics drivers as well as ran a bios flash on the laptop. The unit always has a problem with being moved and I just moved it for the first time in around 6 months (been using it connected to my screen in living room) to bring to class and it crashed with a page fault error when I arrived at class, then again with another bsod when I got home and unpacked it.

I made a mistake by downloading a windows something ware to boot up security. It then crash...so I went to task manager didnt work, which i then went to search and entered msconfig. I then chose safe mode in minimal services. It then says loading files. U see a black screen with thite letters of the files being loaded. Then u see ur mouse cursor, and then it boots up again and same process. So I tried launch startup repair, it launches a repair, but it says it startup cannot repair this computer automactically. I then result into going to tapping f8..it goes to the screen of advanced options. Problem is if i try safe mode it will crash. I dont have a backup, and i dont want to lose my movies of over 700 gigs.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." I recently downloaded a damaged file, which caused my computer (not this one) to be unable to start up normally. The computer now boots up in Startup repair, which is unable to repair my computer "automatically" and when I then click "View advanced options for system recovery and support" and go to the "System restore" tab and choose a Date and time for the restoration, it tells me that "There is not enough free space to restore the disk". I seem to have no options to try and sort out the missing space on the harddisk, which should be unnecessary because I am pretty sure there is still alot of disk space on the C.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi got a hp pavillion running windows 7 i was installing the windows update and pressed restart now, after this the force restart thing came up but i pressed cancel and it didnt like this, after 2 minutes of program errors it restarted and went straight into startup repair. running it on normal mode doesnt work and safe mode is not available. when it runs startip repair it wont fix anything and tells me to restore, i can get to the windows restore part and have restore points but they do not work and an error is shown, x8000xffff if i remember correctly.

I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
So lately my computer's firewall has decided to not work so I searched around and eventually concluded on doing a upgrade reinstall. As I didn't want to lose any of my files, drivers or programs. All seemed like it went well until the computer rebooted for the last time before it reaches the " Setting up for first use " dialog Though before this was able to happen the computer went into a reboot loop with bsod 0x0000001E
After a large amount of reluctant clicking The computer NOW only boots to the System Recovery Options window and the ONLY option is Startup Repair ; There is NO command prompt no diagnostics, nothing, Just Startup Repair, in which start up repair is unable to do anything and continues to loop itself with a Don't send dialog
I have tried inserting the installation disk and accessing the Repair Computer but it presents an incompatibility error.
I have no F8 menu at all, (no safe mode, which I can't access anyway because the computer can't set up for first use).
My Sony vaio just turned off last week and wont boot up. It turns on an flashes Sony vaio but that's all. I made a recovery disk and I can get into bios so I tried booting from internal disk and tried startup repair got nothing, tried system restore for every restore point and none will finish. Took each piece of ram out an tried starting it up to see if bad ram was the problem and it starts the same way. I also tried the restore from previous image but I have no image. So I tried to recover to previous recovery point, but also nothing. Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

I have a partitioned disk with windows 64 bit on one partition and windows 32 bit on another. Whenever I boot up the 32 bit partition it either goes to whitescreen straightaway, or crashes just after login in.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi use ubuntu OS and windows7 professional on an HP dv5 notebook, last week i made a mistake in that i removed the battery while the machine was on as i was using windows7. the time i tried to restart it again it recommended startup repair which ran but 'could not repair it automatically' i tried the f8 options but to no avail. when i run scan and memory diagnostics all are successful but the system can still boot. am able to view my data on windows through ubuntu but ubuntu can't execute windows programs. what should i do to restore windows without loosing data?

I get the black screen of death, no error message or anything. If I re-install the E5200 it works fine. I would like the get the Quad core working. It's already been replaced once. I just built a new computer using the new Intel 1155 socket CPU. As you may or may not know, all 1155 socket motherboards were recalled due to issues with the SATA ports. Long story short, I got a refund for my H-series Biostar motherboard, and when the revised motherboards were made available, i bought a P-series Asus motherboard. All of the system hardware is the same, accept the motherboard.
The computer was running fine with the H-series Biostar motherboard, but now that i have swapped for the Asus, i seem to be running into problems. My first instinct is that the leftover H-series motherboard driver is messing with my new P-series build, but i can't get to the control panel to remove it. I have found a way to pull up windows explorer when i boot into recovery mode. Is it possible for me to remove my old motherboard drivers through windows explorer, or will i need to gain access to the control panel?

My wife's PC refused to reboot about a week ago and after many attempts we eventually gave up trying to recover it and reinstalled from scratch. The history of that is over here. WIN7 won't boot. What should I do before trying a clean install? The PC was rebuilt with Windows 7 64 OEM and because my system disk is only 80GB I followed the directions from this post to locate the user and user apps data folders on the other disk. User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation, Windows update has now installed over 150 updates including SP1 and rebooted successfully many times along the way. However this morning at powerup the PC crashed back to black and rebooted twice before successfully starting up. It has now run quite happily all day. What should I do to monitor what is happening and capture as much info as possible so that if this happens again I capture what is going wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently bought Gigabyte GTS 450 Graphics Card. 90% of the time, I can get to the Windows login screen, but when it tries to go to the desktop, the screen goes black, my Graphics Card fans speed up until they sound like jet engines and I have to hit the reset button to get any signal. Sometimes I don't even make it that far. The funny thing is, occasionally, I will make it through to the desktop with the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" message, but I will get it again if I try to open Firefox. If I make it that far, I am usually stable until my computer is reset, or use any gaming software. It's been like this no matter what driver I use, the packaged driver, 275.33, or the latest 280.26. Gigabyte techs have told me to just try different drivers or send it in.. they've been absolutely worthless!

When I clicked on the app, my computer immediately went to the Startup Repair window and has been relentless. I've tried opening in SafeMode thru F8 for a system restore, no good. And attempted to start windows normally through F12.
Finally, the Startup mode is over and I'm attempting to turn it back on ... and we're right back into Startup Repair.

while writing this I managed to get a blue screen message(disabled the option to automatically restart on system failure) which had been flashing for a nano second previously.A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. it says to check for viruses on your computer remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.I had already ran the chkdsk /f before I saw this message and no files were corrupted/no bad sectors. So this is where I'm at, at my wits end hoping that I dont lose all my data.
