Windows 7 Startup Repair Fail

Aug 13, 2011

Usually I can resolve most issues myself but this one appears to have stumped me so I am graciously turning to you in my time of need.I am unable to boot Windows 7 on my Acer Ferrari One F0200 netbook. It has Windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed but due to an unknown problem or possibly persistent virus I have been unable to boot into windows.

below is a list of things i've tried up til now:

Tried to boot in all safe mode options (failed)
Tried to boot from last known good configuration(failed)
Tried to system restore from all available restore points (failed)
Tried multiple Startup Repairs(all failed)

"Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically"

Problem signature:
Problem event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem signature 01 : 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 02 : 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 03 : unknown

[code]....

while writing this I managed to get a blue screen message(disabled the option to automatically restart on system failure) which had been flashing for a nano second previously.A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. it says to check for viruses on your computer remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.I had already ran the chkdsk /f before I saw this message and no files were corrupted/no bad sectors. So this is where I'm at, at my wits end hoping that I dont lose all my data.

Windows 7 Boot Failure - Repair Fail, Memory Fail?

Oct 25, 2011

I recently built a new rig and I had a problem with one stick of memory. The other stick worked alright, but I've been getting random failures. Can bad memory be inconsistent? Right now, I can't start my OS up at all. It goes straight to the Windows Repair Launcher, which fails. When it gets there, I can either find a restore point or let it 'attempt to fix' for as long as I can endure. The restore point option results in 'instruction xxx failed. memory reference xxx failed.'This leads me to believe there is a problem with the memory. But, could it be the motherboard? I played a video game for hours last night, as well as surfed the web and ran other applications. Everything was fine, until I shut down. This isn't the first time this happened. Last time, I 'fixed' it by switching the 'good' memory stick with the bad. The bad resulted in getting the OS up, but lots of BSOD's

Driver Fail Windows 7 Won't Boot Or Repair?

Jun 14, 2011

My friend has had this laptop for the past year or so, March 2010; and just recently her laptop decided to stop booting. Every time I try to boot windows it gives me a BSOD. All I have is the boot/repair disk from 2010; however it isn't working properly when I try to repair the OS or boot from the disk. It's a toshiba and it came with a repair program, but it also removes data on the HDD. Is there a link to a proper boot disk that I can maybe download to a flash drive and boot from there and repair? Or is there at least an easy way to pull the information off of her HDD before using the Toshiba program? Is it possible to just plug in the laptop to my computer, turn it on and access it from my personal computer? I also have an OEM version of Windows 7 from when I built my own computer, can I use that to repair her OS or will it recognize that it's not the same computer and fail? I know, lots of questions, you don't have to answer them in sequence, just tell me what would work best .

Note: She does NOT have a restore point on her laptop, I was able to get that far on my own before I decided to ask on this forum.

Startup Repair - Windows Cannot Repair This Computer Automatically

May 11, 2011

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

Windows Won't Boot, System Repair Fail, Error 2000-0146, Knoppix Cd?

Jun 18, 2012

I tried to boot in safe mode, it got stuck in mid boot. I tried to boot it with system repair, it said it was loading files and then it got stuck on a screen that said copyright Microsoft Corporation and had a green loading bar. My husband's laptop is exactly the same as mine, so I used it to create a system repair cd. I set the laptop up to boot from cd and tried it, but I got the same thing with it sticking on the green loading bar. I ran a diagnostics on my computer and everything passed except a hard drive test in which I got the error 2000-0146. I checked that error on the dell support website and it told me to take the hard drive out and plug it back in. I have not done this yet as the instructions to do so required me to disassemble the whole computer just to get at the hard drive. After some online research, I created a Knoppix (Linux based os) 6.7 boot cd and booted from the cd drive. This worked beautifully and I am now in the process of transferring all my important data from the hard drive to an external hard drive.

So here are my questions. Everything I read about error 2000-0146 says it's a hard drive failure but if that were the case, why does the hard drive seem to work fine when accessed from a Linux OS? Also, how would disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive fix the problem? I really don't want to take it apart if I don't have too. Could the windows boot files somehow be corrupted causing it not to boot, and if so could I access them with Knoppix and replace them with good files

Windows 7 Randomly Crashes On Startup Or Requires System Repair On Startup

Windows 7 Won't Startup Properly - Stuck In Startup Repair Loop

Feb 18, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').

I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.

Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F 15" laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium. 320 gb. Oh i'm also out of warranty.Computer always freezes at the point where it says "starting windows" and stays frozen. I even left it for alone for 24 hrs and it stayed on that screen.

Things I've tried:

1. I used safe mode to repair windows = just restarted in normal mode and froze at "windows is starting"

2. Used safe mode to restore to earlier point = could not to restore message

3. Created repair disc from another Vaio win 64 = froze at "windows is starting"

4. Used registry clean and malware bytes in safe mode = malware bytes found nothing & reg clean did nothing

5. Fresh install of windows 7 = windows bar loaded then froze at "windows is starting"

6. Reformatted hard drive & performed fresh install = windows bar loaded 7 froze at same point

7. Bought new Western digital 320 gb SATA Hard drive & tried install of win 7= same results

Drivers Fail At Startup

Jul 12, 2012

My laptop has been working fine for two or three months now, until today when I restarted it and suddenly could no longer use my USB mouse. Then I realized I had no WiFi signal, so I plugged into ethernet, and still had no internet connection. Most of my drivers seem to be broken, with my laptop functioning only as it would after freshly installing Windows, before actually installing any drivers.I managed to eventually find a way to install the WiFi drivers, and then the rest of the missing drivers, and restarted my computer to make sure everything was fine. The exact same thing happened again. Any idea what is wrong and how I can fix it without doing a fresh install? I don't currently have access to my backup drives so I'd lose a lot of stuff if I had to reinstall Windows.

Windows 7 Nor Windows 7 Repair Disc Will Not Boot, Keep Getting 'startup Repair'

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Windows Won't Startup, Startup Repair Can't Fix It

Aug 17, 2010

I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.

Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. I might also know what could be the cause of this problem, because yesterday when I was shutting Win down, there was a blackout so obviusly some files are corrupted.

Can't Boot Into Windows / Startup Repair Can't Fix

Jun 4, 2012

I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install AC 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show me startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk... still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time. Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now conveniently lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures'. Windows 7 64bit Startup Repair

As of yesterday whenever I start the computer, it says "Windows Error Recovery - Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally."it then gives me two choices: Launch Startup Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. When I launch startup repair im left with a black screen with no cursor. Ive tried just leaving it alone but after 5hours it stayed the same so I just gave up and just turned it off. When I start windows normally it tries to load up windows but after a few seconds Im brought back to the first screen with the same two choices.I have also tried running safe mode and last known good configuration. Both of them lead me back to the first screen with the two choices.

Windows 7 Startup Repair Hangs?

Jun 16, 2012

I have an Acer AX1301, and when it boots, the startup repair screen comes up.The startup repair loads files, and then, sometimes, I can select input, but then it just hangs on the blue splash screen with the bird.I have left it for up to 24 hours, but it never goes to the next step.Safe mode doesn't work, and I have tried doing the repair from a Windows 7 recovery disk. No good. The first time I used the disc, it got to the point where it was searching for Windows, but seemed to hang on that. Also, if I press Alt+F10, I can get to the Acer recovery, which has 2 options, one which will completely re-install everything and clear the drive, and another that will retain user data. If I do the user data one, what will I lose on the drive? I have my files backed up, but will I have to re-install my various programs and preferences, email settings, etc., or will all of that be retained?
