Windows Won't Startup, Startup Repair Can't Fix It
Aug 17, 2010
I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.
I have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
the Startup screen. So I went to the Startup repair tool as was recommended, but after few tries nothing has changed. So I tried to recover to previous recovery point, but also nothing. Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. I might also know what could be the cause of this problem, because yesterday when I was shutting Win down, there was a blackout so obviusly some files are corrupted.
I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".
I cannot get my computer to restart. It tries to restart but keeps saying that startup repair cannot repair computer automatically. I try to do a system restore but it won't let me do that either
On start up a black and white gateway screen flashes followed by a startup Repair window. This gives me a pop up that says Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. There is the option of sending the information to microsoft or viewing problem details. When looking at the details, Problem Signature:Problem Event Name:StartupRepairOfflineProblem Signature 01:6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 02:6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 03:unknownProblem Signature 04: 21200290Problem Signature 05:AutoFailoverProblem Signature 06:11Problem Signature 07: CorruptFileOS Version:6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1Locale ID:1033Underneath the pop up box, The startup Repair window says WIndows cannot repair this computer automaticallywith the option of viewing diagmostic repair details or viewing advanced options for system recovery and support Under the advanced options, I have tried the startup repair, the system restore, the command promptchkdsk/f/rNone of which have worked Prior to this the notebook was working fine last night, I did not install anythingI ran the Farbar Recovery Scan ToolMod Edit: Removed FRST data, this is a malware tool not permitted in this forum and you have made no indication that this is a malware situation ~ Hamluis.
Start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically , I am getting this all of the time now when starting the PC ,i am sure it started when a new video card got put in but not sure?
I have no idea what was the last thing done on this computer (it is my wifes), but I do know that every now and then there has been a disc failure, checking disc startup, but it has always had a positive outcome.[CODE]
i use ubuntu OS and windows7 professional on an HP dv5 notebook, last week i made a mistake in that i removed the battery while the machine was on as i was using windows7. the time i tried to restart it again it recommended startup repair which ran but 'could not repair it automatically' i tried the f8 options but to no avail. when i run scan and memory diagnostics all are successful but the system can still boot. am able to view my data on windows through ubuntu but ubuntu can't execute windows programs. what should i do to restore windows without loosing data?
Whilst looking for a keygen for Microsoft Office 2010, I must have got a bad file.. yay. When I clicked on the app, my computer immediately went to the Startup Repair window and has been relentless. I've tried opening in SafeMode thru F8 for a system restore, no good. And attempted to start windows normally through F12.
Finally, the Startup mode is over and I'm attempting to turn it back on ... and we're right back into Startup Repair.
Usually I can resolve most issues myself but this one appears to have stumped me so I am graciously turning to you in my time of need.I am unable to boot Windows 7 on my Acer Ferrari One F0200 netbook. It has Windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed but due to an unknown problem or possibly persistent virus I have been unable to boot into windows.
below is a list of things i've tried up til now:
Tried to boot in all safe mode options (failed) Tried to boot from last known good configuration(failed) Tried to system restore from all available restore points (failed) Tried multiple Startup Repairs(all failed)

while writing this I managed to get a blue screen message(disabled the option to automatically restart on system failure) which had been flashing for a nano second previously.A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. it says to check for viruses on your computer remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.I had already ran the chkdsk /f before I saw this message and no files were corrupted/no bad sectors. So this is where I'm at, at my wits end hoping that I dont lose all my data.
I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install AC 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show me startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk... still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time. Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now conveniently lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures'. I am having a problem with windows 7, when i start the computer it says loading files and then goes directly to startup repair. I cant even get into the computer in safe mode or anything else by pressing f8 when istartup. It just keeps on this startup repair loop. Its states startup repair checking for problems, it attempts repairs but then it says it cant repair this computer automatically. I have tried system restore, sytem image recovery and tried to restore the computer to its factory state. when i try that i get a error 0x4001001300001002. I didnt get any recovery disks when i bought the computer either.
I have a Sony Viao with Win 7 Home Premium and I just deleted some form of Trojan with MS Security Essentials and then I ran windows updates before I restarted the machine. Windows update installed some security updates along with Service pack 1 and IE9. Now the computer will not load Windows. It goes straight to the startup repair but cannot fix the problem. There is not restore points other that when SP1 was installed and I gives an error every time I try to restore it. I can get to a command prompt and I have tried to run sfc /scannow but it tells me there is a system repair pending which requires a reboot and then does nothing. I also tried check disk(just as a last chance) but that didn't do anything.
I get the following on boot up Launch startup repair (recommended)start windows normally Selecting either options causes it to enter an infinite loop The last thing I did while it was working was to install a HP printer, it then said restart and since then I have not been able to get pass the Launch startup repair (recommended)start windows normally stage I have tried all the options under F8 on boot, but happy to try any suggestions as I could be completely wrong or may have overlooked something.PS I have read the threads on this forum but can not seem to get it started using the suggestions.
Everytime i turn my computer on it launches into startup repair (recommended) Windows laoding files Starup repair is checking your system for problems do you want to restore your computer using system restore
As of yesterday whenever I start the computer, it says "Windows Error Recovery - Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally."it then gives me two choices: Launch Startup Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. When I launch startup repair im left with a black screen with no cursor. Ive tried just leaving it alone but after 5hours it stayed the same so I just gave up and just turned it off. When I start windows normally it tries to load up windows but after a few seconds Im brought back to the first screen with the same two choices.I have also tried running safe mode and last known good configuration. Both of them lead me back to the first screen with the two choices.
I have an Acer AX1301, and when it boots, the startup repair screen comes up.The startup repair loads files, and then, sometimes, I can select input, but then it just hangs on the blue splash screen with the bird.I have left it for up to 24 hours, but it never goes to the next step.Safe mode doesn't work, and I have tried doing the repair from a Windows 7 recovery disk. No good. The first time I used the disc, it got to the point where it was searching for Windows, but seemed to hang on that. Also, if I press Alt+F10, I can get to the Acer recovery, which has 2 options, one which will completely re-install everything and clear the drive, and another that will retain user data. If I do the user data one, what will I lose on the drive? I have my files backed up, but will I have to re-install my various programs and preferences, email settings, etc., or will all of that be retained?
So earlier on, my laptop wouldn't respond so I shut it down. When I went to turn it off again it came to a screen saying "Windows failed to start up, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause". There is two options: Start Windows Normally, or Launch Start up repair, which is recommended. When I click on Start Windows Normally, it loads for about 20 minutes then restarts itself and lands back at the windows failed to start up page. When I click on Launch Startup Repair, it says "Loading windows files" and loads for a few minutes before showing the windows loading symbol, and then it goes to a black page with a cursor pointer on it. I can move the cursor about, but no matter how long I wait, it doesn't do anything. There is no F8 option ever when I start up my laptop, even when it was working. I am using windows 7.
Working on a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7 Home...
Within last week I have been having trouble with Windows 7 restarting. Originally noticed when the computer goes into sleep mode. When I try to resume windows it defaults to the startup repair tool. Usually this will run 20-30 mins and system will restore. It is happening regularly.
If I power down during the startup repair and do a hard reset, the computer will give me the option to start normally. When I select this the computer will continue and startup without issue.
If I shut down normally and restart the same result has also been occurring.
System runs fine once booted. Only other symptom I noticed is the clock time shown in the tray is consistently wrong now.
I have a Toshiba Satellite that started freezing up after some windows updates. It would run fine in safe mode but now it gets stuck on the windows startup screen. If I choose startup repair it just keeps searching. I had tried to restore when in safe mode but the computer old me it. Could not find restore point. I have been trying to backup files that I needed before doing a factory restore but now I am lost...
It started about a year ago, i just left it but now i feel the need to try and fix it. I have gone through Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery but it was no helpful.
K I have a serious issue right now.. I just put in a new mobo and cpu into my pc...My pc was running oem windows before the upgrade now i cant start windows up nor do startup repair... (im on my laptop) so my main concern is how am i going to get my pc up and running with little to no pain.
So yesterday I added another hard drive to my computer. I now have 2 SATA hard drives running in my machine. I used the disk managment, and the 2nd hard drive is working as it should.
However, when I shut down my computer and turned it back on, Windows will boot to the Startup Repair screen every time. I checked the BIOS and made sure the boot order was correct, and even took the 2nd hard drive off the boot order in order to make sure it wasn't causing any issues. It's pretty annoying, because every time I start up, I have to wait for the whole repair process before it will load normally. Each time it always says that there are no repairs that could be made.
I also am not able to put my computer in sleep mode any longer. I believe my BIOS setting is set to S1, and before I never had any problems. I would put my comp to sleep and everything would be fine. After the 2nd hard drive, my monitor will turn off and it sounds like 1 of the hard drives turns off, but the CPU and fan are still running and it does not completely go to sleep.
I am currently working on an emachines e525 (its for a friend, I would never buy an emachine) and when I got the machine it was stuck in a boot loop to the startup repair. I could not boot into windows via safe mode or any other method. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 and everything looked fine until I rebooted. The startup repair loop started again. Frustrated at this point I formated the hard drive and installed Windows XP. It was working great for a while even after I rebooted several times. I went to bed and then today turned the laptop back on and I got the unmountable_boot_volume blue screen.I also have ran chkdsk multiple times and it doesnt find anything to repair. I also ran a memory test (even though I did not believe that is/was the issue and it came back with no errors.
I've got two hard drives with Windows 7 on it. One of them, the operating system crashed entirely, on the other, it's a perfect copy of how the other hard drive was at factory settings (drivers and all). Now, you're probably wondering, hey, why not use the other hard drive? Thing is, I'm trying to save / keep all the programs on the first hard drive in order to save myself the hassle from 1) pretending I'll find / looking for the disks that I know I don't have and 2) the time it'd take to install them.the machine was *not* giving me anything except sending me over to start up repair, stating that it couldn't fix the problem. I used the other hard drive to boot into Windows, and was hoping to do a repair option on the other hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't think that's entirely possible. I used Hirens Boot CD to check out the System32 / Syswow64 folders, and there was hardly anything in there. So, naturally, started copying off certain sub folders from one to the other. Now, I can get it to attempt to boot / it sees the partition / I go to safe mode, and it hits Classpnp.sys for a split second, then startup repair. Startup repair let's me see that there is one root cause, but, after doing its thing, says that it didn't detect an issue with the startup.
1x Sony Vaio laptop 2x Hard drives (one with a factory restored image on it, another one that won't boot into the OS)The hard drive that I need to boot from / one that has my programs goes to Startup Repair after hitting Classpnp.sys in Safe Mode Startup repair has one thing fail (StartupRepairOffline issue), but says it didn't detect a problem / everything booted fine afterwards Attempted to rebuild the BCD (after successful fixmbr / fixboot), but it states it sees 0 installations of windows. However, I have a Windows 7 retail disk that sees the installation folder.
Everytime I start my computer it goes into startup repair searching for problems. I tried going to F8 into safe mode but it goes bac to searching for problems in statup repair. Is there any way I can bypass it from going to startup repair page and go into windows.
My system was working really gr8 till last week.. and one fine day, i had done some updates for my win7, then it asked me to reboot and as i did.. i got the boot screen and i selected win7 and i got win7 logo blinking.. and then it again rebooted.. and this time it went to startup repair.. after i run startup repair, luckily i had some restore points.. and after i restored my system.. everytime till now , it goes to startup repair everytime i boot my system ..win7 still asks to get updated and everytime i do it or without updating also it goes to startup repair and again i restore.. it is like a loop
