Windows 7 Boot Failure - Repair Fail, Memory Fail?

Oct 25, 2011

I recently built a new rig and I had a problem with one stick of memory. The other stick worked alright, but I've been getting random failures. Can bad memory be inconsistent? Right now, I can't start my OS up at all. It goes straight to the Windows Repair Launcher, which fails. When it gets there, I can either find a restore point or let it 'attempt to fix' for as long as I can endure. The restore point option results in 'instruction xxx failed. memory reference xxx failed.'This leads me to believe there is a problem with the memory. But, could it be the motherboard? I played a video game for hours last night, as well as surfed the web and ran other applications. Everything was fine, until I shut down. This isn't the first time this happened. Last time, I 'fixed' it by switching the 'good' memory stick with the bad. The bad resulted in getting the OS up, but lots of BSOD's

Windows 7 Startup Repair Fail

Aug 13, 2011

Usually I can resolve most issues myself but this one appears to have stumped me so I am graciously turning to you in my time of need.I am unable to boot Windows 7 on my Acer Ferrari One F0200 netbook. It has Windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed but due to an unknown problem or possibly persistent virus I have been unable to boot into windows.

below is a list of things i've tried up til now:

Tried to boot in all safe mode options (failed)
Tried to boot from last known good configuration(failed)
Tried to system restore from all available restore points (failed)
Tried multiple Startup Repairs(all failed)

"Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically"

Problem signature:
Problem event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem signature 01 : 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 02 : 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 03 : unknown

[code]....

while writing this I managed to get a blue screen message(disabled the option to automatically restart on system failure) which had been flashing for a nano second previously.A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. it says to check for viruses on your computer remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.I had already ran the chkdsk /f before I saw this message and no files were corrupted/no bad sectors. So this is where I'm at, at my wits end hoping that I dont lose all my data.

Driver Fail Windows 7 Won't Boot Or Repair?

Jun 14, 2011

My friend has had this laptop for the past year or so, March 2010; and just recently her laptop decided to stop booting. Every time I try to boot windows it gives me a BSOD. All I have is the boot/repair disk from 2010; however it isn't working properly when I try to repair the OS or boot from the disk. It's a toshiba and it came with a repair program, but it also removes data on the HDD. Is there a link to a proper boot disk that I can maybe download to a flash drive and boot from there and repair? Or is there at least an easy way to pull the information off of her HDD before using the Toshiba program? Is it possible to just plug in the laptop to my computer, turn it on and access it from my personal computer? I also have an OEM version of Windows 7 from when I built my own computer, can I use that to repair her OS or will it recognize that it's not the same computer and fail? I know, lots of questions, you don't have to answer them in sequence, just tell me what would work best .

Note: She does NOT have a restore point on her laptop, I was able to get that far on my own before I decided to ask on this forum.

Windows Won't Boot, System Repair Fail, Error 2000-0146, Knoppix Cd?

Jun 18, 2012

I tried to boot in safe mode, it got stuck in mid boot. I tried to boot it with system repair, it said it was loading files and then it got stuck on a screen that said copyright Microsoft Corporation and had a green loading bar. My husband's laptop is exactly the same as mine, so I used it to create a system repair cd. I set the laptop up to boot from cd and tried it, but I got the same thing with it sticking on the green loading bar. I ran a diagnostics on my computer and everything passed except a hard drive test in which I got the error 2000-0146. I checked that error on the dell support website and it told me to take the hard drive out and plug it back in. I have not done this yet as the instructions to do so required me to disassemble the whole computer just to get at the hard drive. After some online research, I created a Knoppix (Linux based os) 6.7 boot cd and booted from the cd drive. This worked beautifully and I am now in the process of transferring all my important data from the hard drive to an external hard drive.

So here are my questions. Everything I read about error 2000-0146 says it's a hard drive failure but if that were the case, why does the hard drive seem to work fine when accessed from a Linux OS? Also, how would disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive fix the problem? I really don't want to take it apart if I don't have too. Could the windows boot files somehow be corrupted causing it not to boot, and if so could I access them with Knoppix and replace them with good files

Windows Will Not Boot Even With Clean Install, Windows Repairs Fail, Repair Disc Won't Work

May 23, 2012

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F 15" laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium. 320 gb. Oh i'm also out of warranty.Computer always freezes at the point where it says "starting windows" and stays frozen. I even left it for alone for 24 hrs and it stayed on that screen.

Things I've tried:

1. I used safe mode to repair windows = just restarted in normal mode and froze at "windows is starting"

2. Used safe mode to restore to earlier point = could not to restore message

3. Created repair disc from another Vaio win 64 = froze at "windows is starting"

4. Used registry clean and malware bytes in safe mode = malware bytes found nothing & reg clean did nothing

5. Fresh install of windows 7 = windows bar loaded then froze at "windows is starting"

6. Reformatted hard drive & performed fresh install = windows bar loaded 7 froze at same point

7. Bought new Western digital 320 gb SATA Hard drive & tried install of win 7= same results

Windows 7 Nor Windows 7 Repair Disc Will Not Boot, Keep Getting 'startup Repair'

Feb 3, 2012

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Can't Boot Into Windows / Startup Repair Can't Fix

Jun 4, 2012

I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install AC 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show me startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk... still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time. Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now conveniently lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures'. Windows 7 Startup Repair On Every Boot

Mar 16, 2011

So yesterday I added another hard drive to my computer. I now have 2 SATA hard drives running in my machine. I used the disk managment, and the 2nd hard drive is working as it should.

However, when I shut down my computer and turned it back on, Windows will boot to the Startup Repair screen every time. I checked the BIOS and made sure the boot order was correct, and even took the 2nd hard drive off the boot order in order to make sure it wasn't causing any issues. It's pretty annoying, because every time I start up, I have to wait for the whole repair process before it will load normally. Each time it always says that there are no repairs that could be made.

I also am not able to put my computer in sleep mode any longer. I believe my BIOS setting is set to S1, and before I never had any problems. I would put my comp to sleep and everything would be fine. After the 2nd hard drive, my monitor will turn off and it sounds like 1 of the hard drives turns off, but the CPU and fan are still running and it does not completely go to sleep.

Windows 7 Won't Boot, Goes To Startup Repair

Oct 21, 2012

I've got two hard drives with Windows 7 on it. One of them, the operating system crashed entirely, on the other, it's a perfect copy of how the other hard drive was at factory settings (drivers and all). Now, you're probably wondering, hey, why not use the other hard drive? Thing is, I'm trying to save / keep all the programs on the first hard drive in order to save myself the hassle from 1) pretending I'll find / looking for the disks that I know I don't have and 2) the time it'd take to install them.the machine was *not* giving me anything except sending me over to start up repair, stating that it couldn't fix the problem. I used the other hard drive to boot into Windows, and was hoping to do a repair option on the other hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't think that's entirely possible. I used Hirens Boot CD to check out the System32 / Syswow64 folders, and there was hardly anything in there. So, naturally, started copying off certain sub folders from one to the other. Now, I can get it to attempt to boot / it sees the partition / I go to safe mode, and it hits Classpnp.sys for a split second, then startup repair. Startup repair let's me see that there is one root cause, but, after doing its thing, says that it didn't detect an issue with the startup.

1x Sony Vaio laptop 2x Hard drives (one with a factory restored image on it, another one that won't boot into the OS)The hard drive that I need to boot from / one that has my programs goes to Startup Repair after hitting Classpnp.sys in Safe Mode Startup repair has one thing fail (StartupRepairOffline issue), but says it didn't detect a problem / everything booted fine afterwards Attempted to rebuild the BCD (after successful fixmbr / fixboot), but it states it sees 0 installations of windows. However, I have a Windows 7 retail disk that sees the installation folder.

Windows 7 Won't Boot (Can't Even Boot Startup Repair)

Aug 8, 2012

Hardware Information (This is from memory and may not be completely accurate):The computer model is emachines The processor is a dual core Intel Pentium The graphics card is NVIDIA (Can't remember the model.)4GB of RAM installed Software Information (Also from memory, but this is likely to be more accurate than the hardware.): Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Antivirus software is Comodo Internet Security - Also the firewall (product information).I often used Advanced System Care for optimization.-product information.after searching the internet for ways to fix my problem for the past three days, I'm at a complete loss. I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless. So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive. After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work. The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)

It worked perfectly at first, but then I suddenly found that half of my services were disabled randomly. As well, my computer kept connecting with limited access to my household wireless connection, quite simply meaning I couldn't connect to the internet.Eventually, after throwing all the solutions I could find on the net at it (sfc/scannow, system restore, enabling the systems manually through and elevated control panel and even upgrade installs (with the original OEM system builders disc), I gave up and did a complete reinstall, wiping everything on my hard drive and starting again.Unlike the upgrade install I attempted, this actually worked and my computer worked perfectly...until I updated windows. Windows 7 Will Not Boot - Startup Cannot Repair This Computer Automatically

Apr 7, 2011

I have a toshiba laptop that runs windows 7 32bit home premium and it is not booting properly. When I turn it on t will show the microsoft logo and says "starting windows" but never gets past that point. I have tried all the fixes to no avail including, safe mode (will not boot into safe mode..starts to load but stops at drivers/atipcie.sys and sits there for a minute or two and goes to the repair startup recommended screen. I have tried startup repair and done it many times because I have read it can take several times (it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically") I have tried the windows repair disc using system restore but it says no restore points found, even though i know they are on my computer. All of my school files are on this computer and while I have some of there backed up on a external hard drive there are some more recent files that are not. What can I try without a clean install to try and repair this?

Windows 7 Won't Boot, Startup Repair Doesn't Work

Sep 21, 2012

I've had an ongoing war with my PC for four days now. I have Windows 7 and it refuses to start up. Originally I tried starting up normal, it gave me two choices: system repair or start as normal. If I chose normal it would show the windows logo then reset. If I chose repair it would turn black for several minutes, then go to a blue screen for several minutes and wouldn't move past that. So i tried to boot from CD. I have the option of installing windows or repair. I chose repair, once again it goes to the blue screen and nothing happens (and I've left it on this blue screen a good 15 min mind you.) Finally I submitted and decided to just re-install windows. it goes to the starting setup... and sits there indefinably.

Windows 7 Won't Boot - Startup Repair Doesn't Load Either

Dec 2, 2012

I tried turning on my computer today and it gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" logo. It just hangs there indefinitely (usually only takes a couple seconds) and doesn't load. I then tried startup repair, and that just takes me to a black screen. After that, I tried putting in my Windows 7 boot disc to do a clean install, told the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD drive. It tells me to press a key, I do. I get "Windows is loading files" and then it goes back to "Starting Windows" forever, yet again. This happened so suddenly, it was working fine just hours before this.

Windows 7 Safe Mode Boot Redirecting To Startup Repair

Dec 7, 2012

Earlier today I tripped over a headphone cord and it flung my computer off my desk. I have an HP omni PC. It's the kind that had the computer and the monitor built together. I picked it back up off the floor. The power cord came out on impact. I set everything back up and was relived to hear it turn on. I selected start windows normally (win 7 64 bit) and it sat at starting windows forever. I eventually manually shutdown the computer. I powered back on and I got an option to start windows normally or use startup repair.

I thought it would be a good idea to go into startup repair. It just sat at the light blue screen with the large white mouse sitting there. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared on screen. I turned off the computer again and am just leaving it there for now. I am worried that the hard drive may have been disconnected from the fall and that's why windows won't start. Or maybe the hard drive was damaged. I tried doing a safe mode boot but it redirected me to startup repair.

Windows 7 Stuck In Endless Boot Cycle Startup Repair Freezes

Jan 22, 2012

So, I'm not exactly sure what I did. I was clearing up some space on my computer after using the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of this Norton trial popup that came up everytime I booted my computer. Now, after it told me to restart, it seems to be stuck in an endless boot cycle that resets itself after showing the Windows logo. I've since tried running startup repair, which freezes as it shows the progress bar for 'Windows is loading files'. Safe mode will not work, either. It just sends it back into the boot cycle. Not sure what to do at this point. My computer came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have any startup discs.

It gave me Startup Repair and normal startup. After clicking normal startup just to see if it would correct itself like normal,my pc instantly BSOD'd, bringing me back to my two options. I get into startup repair everytime i boot my pc which is never successful. I am definitely goin to explain it in detail but dis is basic problem nd plz dont mind typing coz m typing fast on iphone which may cause errors in typing!Yesterday,i used my pc for 7-8 hrs continuosly which is not big deal but due to it i can't figure out my action which caused problem. I kept it on for downloading at night nd when in morning i got boot screen which comes when pc is directly turned off. I did Start Windows Normally nd i got usual windows 7 loading animation for a secong nd den it started startup repair after that everytime i boot it takes me to startup repair resulting in continuos failure. I hv googled nd found many threads but none matched my exact one. Startup infinity loop didn't work. Below r given few conclusions nd obstacles-1.) i can't get into advanced boot options using F8. But i can get into recovery menu using install dvd nd view advanced options frm startup repair.

2.) System restore din't work. I mean its not successful in restoring.3.) bootrec.exe didnt work4.) imp point to be noted is my last update was on 23 dec while pc worked fine on 24 th & 25th dec means dont knw wat happened 25th night that caused this problem on 26th morning.5.) sfc/scannow says "a startup repair is left to be completed." it says to complete that first then use sfc/scannow.6.) chkdsk results in last line saying failed to transfer log......7.) i also get a report like many others about that problem signature.8.) repair install not possible coz windows can't start only.9.)i hv made a backup using cmd but is there any way without clean install?
