Windows 7 64bit - System Restore Menu Not Showing Up

Jul 24, 2012

Currently running windows 7 64 bit. My problem is that my windows will not boot up and will just sit at the 'loading' screen forever and nothing will happen. I've tried using the system restore function but whenever it loads to the blue screen the window pops up for not even a second and goes away. I've tried running a repair/install disk and running in safe mode does not work either. Also the F8 functions won't do anything either, restore to a working point etc. I've scanned for malware and nothing shows up. Windows was working just fine until I normally restarted it and this problem occurred. I'm not sure what the next step I should take to fix this problem is.

Files Not Showing Up In Folder After System Restore

Oct 8, 2011

Recently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.

I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.

System Restore Extremely Slow In Windows 7 64bit

Feb 20, 2012

I have had Win 7 64bit installed on my C: Partition which contains System Files and Program Files. Data is stored on Partition E:. The System has functioned perfectly until straight after installing updates on 16/02/2012. I believe some of these updates were: KB2660465, KB2645640, KB2654428 and an Office 2007 Update. The Update Install procedure called for a System Restart which for unknown reasons booted to Safe Mode. I performed a Restart which booted correctly and I continued to work for the rest of the day. Next morning it booted to ChkDsk running, which apparently found and rewrote Orphaned Files. This activity caused me serious concern.

I ran scans with MSE and MalwareBytes and both were clean.I decided to perform a System Restore back to 12/02/2012 which was a known good Restore Point, created by Critical Update. This Restore has now been running for four hours with the HDD Light blinking. This makes me believe that there is in fact something happening on the HDD, what I do not know.I am aware the System Restore must not be stopped once started. The Question now is: How much longer should I allow it to run?? or Should I kill it now???If I were to Kill It now, what would I then have to do???I have never known System Restore to take so long before. I see this as being abnormal. I do not want to destroy two months of installation work.

Takeown Changed Start Menu, Corrupted System Restore?

Jan 23, 2011

I recently ran into frustration trying to save or make new any files in the root C: directory, with Windows7 Home Premium being set by default, of course, to not allow this. I did a cursory skim of some information online about changing these settings, and made some changes a bit hastily. Specifically, for the C: drive I took ownership of every subdirectory and gave my account full permissions under security. Annoyingly, this didn't fix the original issue of saving to that drive (which I no longer care about anyway), and it caused (at least) two new problems. Now my start menu has far fewer listings than it used to have; I imagine some programs were listed in it based on the previous permissions. I tried to do a system recovery, both through the OS and with a recovery disc, and that does not work either. It lists restore points, but after restarting it says that the restore was unable to complete. Can I fix the permissions and ownership of just the restore directory and program components, enough to run one, and revert?Or, failing that, is there a way to undo recent ownership changes made? I poked around in the Event Viewer, but it's not laid out very clearly. It's ok if it's not possible or easy to do it this way; I can grab just my vital files and completely reinstall Windows if it's absolutely necessary, but it seems excessive. I doubt the system restore files are corrupted. More, let's say, confused.Let me know if you need any of the error message codes. Somehow they never seem useful. Screenshots forthcoming.

Installing Programs On Windows 7 64bit - System Creating Restore Point

Jan 15, 2013

On my system I have an SSD, so I have (Windows Restore) turned off. When I download a program and try to install it, it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A long while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem, fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. What can I do to get things to install without Safe Mode?

Right Click Menu Not Showing In Windows Explorer?

Mar 17, 2011

I have read several threads in different forums regarding different types of issues with right clicking in Win 7 x64. My issue is when right clicking on folders/files within the Window Explorer. Below is my set up:

Win 7 Ultimate (64) - SP1 Build 7601
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 (2.47Ghz dual core)
Asus AV8 Deluxe
4GB ram
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (Driver 96.85)

I am logged in as Administrator by default. I did not have this issue before.I only have the following installed (in order of installation):Office 2007 / IE / Firefox / MS Security Essentials / Spyware Doctor / Malwarebytes / Adobe Master Collection CS4 / AVS4You Suite / WinRAR / VLC player / Picasa / Orbit Down Loader / Mp3tag / and Rocketdock with Stack docklet

Issue:I can right click on the desktop, desktop icons, task bar, and start menu with no problems (including inside the start menu). As an example - if a go to the start menu and left click on My Computer, the Windows Explorer will open as normal (displaying all my drives). At this level I can right click on my drives and the menu pops up with no problems. But as a further example - if I left click on my C: drive, in order to go into the next level in Windows Explorer, I will see the folder/files inside the C: drive (like normal). But at this point (or further levels), if I right click on any folders or files - the menu will pop up so fast (like a split second flash) and go away. It does not give me the chance to do anything. And after this split second flash, the Windows Explorer goes back to the previous level (as if I hit the Back button).

It does not matter how deep I navigate into the folder structure (anything past the first level - where the Drives are displayed) - as soon as I right click, the same "flash" happens. Including the backing up of a level each time I right click, until I end up back at my Drives again. Yet if I were to copy-n-move any folder/file to the desk top level, then I can right click like normal (even though within the Windows Explorer I could not).Is this a Security/Permission setting? Or is this a corrupted Context Menu issue (inside one of the registry levels)?

[System Restore] Scheduling Automated Rollbacks Of System Restore Points?

Aug 10, 2011

Does anyone know how to schedule/automate a rollback to a system restore point at a set time each day? What i'm trying to do is:1. Disable the standard system restore behavior for creating restore points when installing apps and drivers.2. Automatically/schedule a restore point to be created every morning. (probably using Task Scheduler)3. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night. This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.

Windows Showing Both 32 And 64bit Options

Jun 16, 2012

I'm a little confused about what kind of OS I'm running - a 32 bit one, or a 64 bit version of windows 7.When I'm looking at the "Performance information and tools" in the control panel it seems that my system is running 64 bit version of windows 7.But, when I look in the advanced settings (from the screen resolution section of the control panel), in the "Adapter" tab, I'm looking in "list all modes" and I only have 32 and 16 bit options to choose from! So what is going on? am I running 64 bit or 32 bit? and is there any point of upgrading to 64bit or down-grading to 32 bit?

Laptop Won't Hibernate Despite Showing In Start Menu?

Sep 20, 2012

When I try to hibernate, the screen goes black, then immediately comes back to the log on screen; this is regardless of whether I go into hibernate via the start button, pushing the power button, or closing the lid. I have each of those methods set to hibernate.I actually cloned my original HDD to an SSD; the original HDD was about 10GB larger than the SSD, but nowhere full. I was not experiencing any issues with the HDD. After the clone, I am not having any functionality issues besides the inability to go into hibernate mode. What I've tried so far includes: Followed all steps in the tutorial/guide for the enable/disable hibernate. here Looked through my BIOS settings, reverted them to defaults. Performed a disk repair. Ran CCleaner.

Looked through all my power plan settings to ensure hibernate is enabled and no options say "never" for hibernate. Increased the file of hibersys.fil to 100% per the tutorial hereThe rationale for using hibernate and why this is a big deal to me is as follows. Booting take time compared to dehibernating, which is instant. Also, more importantly, I usually have at least 8 instances of word/excel/email client/PDFs/web browser open as I work on a project. I often need to power down the laptop and then continue where I left off and reopening all of those items is quite annoying. Using hibernate, I do not have to close the various documents/programs to power down. This increases my efficiency enormously. Also please note that sleeping still consumes battery power where hibernating does not consume any battery power.

Windows 7 Won't Startup, System Repair And System Restore Failed?

Feb 15, 2013

Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.

System Backup & Restore Will Not Restore Bookmarks Or E-mails?

OK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.
