partition table since I cant install ubuntu. I used testdisk to fix it and now I lost my partition D. However, I can still see it in testdisk. How can I restore my lost partition? I didn't backup my partition list before I try testdisk

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.
After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart,command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition,primary,ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.
1.I start installing a fresh copy of Win 7.2.At the point of installation which concerns partitions I delete my 2 old ones (had 2 partitions on 1 HDD) and create 2 new ones.3.I continue installation on the smaller partition (just for the OS purpose)
4.All done perfectly with installation.5.When I go to My Computer I am only showing drive C: (the smaller OS partition) and I don't see the second partition at all.

1. Initally had two partitions .. C and D ..
2. Tried to merge C and D to make C more by using Partiton Wizard.
3. Computer Restarted.
4.BSOD at Starting windows logo
5. Stuck at boot.
6. Launched Windows repair.
7. Unable to do repairs.
8. Dell restore unable to locate present installation. ( "current installation : (Unknown) at Unknown drive)
9. Checked partitions using DISKPART at command prompt.
10. Tried to change active partition . Restarted.
11. BOOTMGR MISSING ERROR. Dont even go to startup repair.
12. DVD DRIVE of LAPTOP NOT WORKING so made Windows Startup repair USB bootable.
13. Now have Access to Recovery Menu.
14. Made Partition Wizard Bootable USB . Now have access to Partition Wizard Also.
15. Tried installing Windows 7 using USB. Got error "installation error. verify windows sources are accessible Windows 7 Instalation Problem - Error Code 0xC0000005.
16. Stuck at boot now.
I checked OS drive in partition wizard bootable , it is intact..Windows installation is there....Every drive is ok but somehow booting not from that drive.I will attach photographs of Partition Wizard Partiton status.
i ve install partition magic 8 on windows 7 home premium and after that my D: drive disappers and disk management also give error ..
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using dual booted laptop Windows 7 and Linux. I opened my Disk management and I right clicked the Linux partition drive and I selected "Delete Volume", After that i formated that partition. Now when I restarted my laptop, i got error like this:
"Grub loading. Error: Unknown files grub rescue>".
Then I created a live USB contains SGD iso file. I booted this USB on booting time and selected Windows boot. It asked in the black screen with options "Start windows normally " and " Launch and Start up Repair and " I selected the second option and I tried to restore my back up files, then I can see that C drive contains only the files and folders which I was stored in D drive. and D drive shows only 200 MB size. I dont have CD drive in my laptop. Before this problem:
C drive is -58GB
D drive is -141GB
Now C drive shows 141GB and contains the files which were in my D drive.
My specs:
ASUS M5A97 (AM3+) Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 945
2 x 4GB G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 RAM
PNY Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX 1GB
A 1TB SATA HDD (can't remember the brand)
A 160GB SATA HDD
My issue is, I'll try to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate x64, not a new installation at all, and I get the "Windows is Starting" screen and the little colored balls, but after a few seconds I get a very very quick blue screen and reboot before Windows even loads. There's no way I can read the blue screen error.So I thought, "Let's just do a startup repair." That didn't work; it said: Quote: Root cause found:The partition table does not have a valid System Partition

Time taken = 20632ms
So I pop in the Windows 7 installation DVD; it tells me there are missing CD/DVD drivers. I point it to the Windows 7 drivers directory on my primary HDD, it still can't find anything.So I load up my copy of MSDaRT. Some tools load, but it tells me "Tool requires a supported offline OS" under many of the tools, and the ones that do start won't do anything at all because they can't "see" my Windows 7 installation. I have an external HDD reader, but I'd rather not have to wipe everything and do a clean reinstall. Maybe trying to fix the partitions with a G-Parted on an Ubuntu Live CD or something?

We decided we wanted to partition his one and only hard drive (a 1TB Seagate at 7200rpm or so). We chose a 100GB partition to be the primary drive where the operating system would be installed. Windows also created a 104mb drive for system files or some nonsense. That left a 900 GB partition that would NOT have windows 7 installed on it. Everything installed, PC booted up and when we open windows explorer, the 900 GB drive does not appear. Maybe it has not been formatted?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my Sister's laptop, running Windows 7 Ultimate x86, all of a sudden, while she was working on the computer, the "E drive" went missing which was a partition on the hard disk (I don't remember if it was a logical or primary partition). She tried restarting the system but to no avail. So, I told her to open the "Disk management" tool in Windows 7 to see if the partition is visible in there. I did this because sometimes, in my computer, my expansion drive wouldn't show but it would be visible in the disk management tool and all I had to do was to re-assign it a drive letter. But, in this case, it wasn't visible over there.
So, now I told her to download "Mini-Tool Partition manager Home edition" and install it on her laptop. On running it, it wouldn't show the partition either. It would just show "C:", "D", "System Reserved" and unallocated space. However, when I added up the size displayed by C:, D:, System Reserved and Unallocated, it doesn't add up to the actual hard disk size. It means the partition is somewhere there but not visible. Is it possible that the partition would show up correctly if the laptop is booted into the bootable image of Mini-Tool Partition Manager?
I have a Windows 7 Professional system that I went to take an image of using EASEUS TODO Workstation. When I went to do the backup, I noticed that there was no 100 MB System Reserved Partition. I made the image anyway.When I tested the image on a new machine, it prompted me to repair or start windows normally. Unable to start normally, so I did the repair. After about 10 min, the system came back and said it cannot repair.Outside of start a system from scratch, is there a way I can get the system reserved partition out of the Windows 7 partition?

I cleaned out some partitions and then tried to put WIndows 7 on the fresh partition. The process began and then I got a mesage saying that Windows cold not format a partition on disk 0. This error occured while preparing the partition selected for installtin. Error code 0x80070057I also get a message when I restart the computer saying ¨Missing Operaing system¨ I´m guessing that that means I cant log in to fix this problem

During Win 7 installation on my new Lenovo G780 ( 500gb HDD ) , I have deleted system ( 0 ) partition firstWin 7 offered/created 30gb system, 30gb primary, 440gb primary 2 ( unallocated ) and one Lenovo OEM partition 1mb.As my friend said , always first go from behind but I didint. Now I am missing 30gb of space, and can not retrieve it. So if I do installation from the beginning i just have 470 GB of space to alocate to partitions ( for example 100mb system , 100gb Primary & 369gb Primary 2 )So 30GB seems lost. I have installed win 7 and run diskmgmt.msc and only 1 disk with 470gb is shown.I tried linux with that partition software and the same... it shows just 470gb of space...30GB are missing/lost/not existing.Once again... so sorry guys for posting this issue since maybe it is something that is common, but I really do not want to give up. How I restore it?
I have a dual boot system with WinXP and Windows 7 on the same drive, partitioned out. I also have a second drive which contains most of my data files.
For some reason, Windows 7 isn't seeing my XP partition, however it has no problems seeing my data drive. XP can also successfully see the new Windows 7 partition when I boot into XP.
Is there a reason why Windows 7 can't see my XP partition? Is there a way to fix this? Doing a search on this was quite hard. I kept getting all sorts of irrelevant results (most about full missing hds which isn't my problem).
I have windows 7 and have 2 internal hard drives, the main hard drive is C, the second hard drive for storage was partioned into 2 drives, letters D and G, drive G is not visible anymore and when i go to disk management on drive D is visible how do i get drive G back as i had data on that drive

I know it should be simple to do this, by simply pressing "Alt" and "F10" at the Acer Splashpage when you bootup, and going to the acer eRecovery page. But when i do this i get the error message."HDD RECOVERY VALIDATION FAILED" I've tried my hardest, searched all over google for a solution, but every problem seems to be different.And i can't figure out what is particularly wrong with my computer. I am only an amateur when it comes to computers, and disks, partitions, locating partitions, etc etc is not my strong suit. Is there anyway i can check if the hidden partition "PQservice" is still in my drives? If it helps in anyway, i though i might mention that the previous time i restored back to factory settings.When i completed it, i didn't fully complete the windows installation process, and now whenever i log into my computer, it mentions that my "windows is not yet genuine, click here to register it blah blah blah". I didn't bother doing it because i assumed it wasn't vital, i was and have still been able to use my computer fine for the past year or so without having to do it.

So I downloaded the windows 7 repair files from one website and tried to fix it, but I failed and now I wanted to know is there any other way I can fix using command prompt or will I just have to reinstall windows 7.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 1TB hard drive partitions into a C drive and D drive. The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit. The C drive is my every day stuff, and I use D to store media, music, video etc. Today I wanted to access the D drive and it was not there. The C drive is listed as usual. I went to Disk Management and the missing D drive was not there as well. I don't know if this explains things, but I ran a partition analysis program and it showed 500 gigs as unallocated. But that space is also not noted in disk management. Right now I am running partition recovery software to see if the files are somewhere, but it will take a few hours.

Unfortunately as my computer is quite old my hard drive is not very big and with it being partitioned I am fast running out of disk space. So I tried to shrink the XP partition to allow me more disk space for Windows 7. Unfortunatley this would only let me shrink it by 83mb for some reason. I decided that since I barely use XP anymore that I would simply reformat the XP drive then try and merge them together. When I tried to format the partition it just gave the error "Windows was unable to complete the format". I then discovered in Disk Management that the Windows XP partition was the system partition which was causing the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?
I wanted to create a new partition to try out linux. So I decided to shrink E: by 20 GB. I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit installed on DELL desktop (Optiplex 990) i7 Core. I have two HDD: Disk 0 contains the operating system 500GB. and Disk 1 empty 1TB.
I want to make a partition on disk 1 to mirror the operating system partition and keep the remaining for data storage. I tried to do but I had the following error message: "All disks holding extents for a given volume must have the same sector size, and the sector size must be valid."
I tried to attach a screen shot but couldn't.
I wanted to resize a partition, so I backuped all important files and booted from a vista PE CD. The program used is called "Easeus". After the resizing a message appeared, which told me that the system information couldnt be updated. After a restart, it - well, it didnt restarted. I tryed to format my C:Windows partition, but Easus decided to randomly format my linux partitin, too. Yey. After that i just formated everything, so i can create one big partition so this never happens again :P. To put it in a nutshel, there is no way to boot besides from booting from a cd. The diagnostic tool of the fabricator is giving me the "error code: BIOHD-3 No bootable drives detected" message.I tried to fix it with a win7 repair disk (just realized, that the disk is for 64bit, i have a 32 bit os - i think it doesnt matter, because there isnt any os installed at all). I used pretty much every "bootrec" command, sucessful, but no change. The startup repair gave this message: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" diskpart - act isnt helping either: "The specified partition type is not valid for this operation."I dont know if i could install any os from a disk - i dont have a bootable installation cd/dvd. Because of that i would be happy if someone can tell me where i can find a free os and how i install it. From a os i can install my win 7.
