Windows 7 Won't Start Or Reinstall, System Partition Missing?

Jul 19, 2012

My specs:

ASUS M5A97 (AM3+) Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 945
2 x 4GB G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 RAM
PNY Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX 1GB
A 1TB SATA HDD (can't remember the brand)
A 160GB SATA HDD

My issue is, I'll try to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate x64, not a new installation at all, and I get the "Windows is Starting" screen and the little colored balls, but after a few seconds I get a very very quick blue screen and reboot before Windows even loads. There's no way I can read the blue screen error. So I thought, "Let's just do a startup repair." That didn't work; it said: Quote: Root cause found:The partition table does not have a valid System Partition

Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 20632ms

So I pop in the Windows 7 installation DVD; it tells me there are missing CD/DVD drivers. I point it to the Windows 7 drivers directory on my primary HDD, it still can't find anything. So I load up my copy of MSDaRT. Some tools load, but it tells me "Tool requires a supported offline OS" under many of the tools, and the ones that do start won't do anything at all because they can't "see" my Windows 7 installation. I have an external HDD reader, but I'd rather not have to wipe everything and do a clean reinstall. Maybe trying to fix the partitions with a G-Parted on an Ubuntu Live CD or something?

System Reserved Partition Blocking Windows 7 Reinstall

Jun 28, 2010

I installed Windows 7 RTM 7600 on a new hard disk (previously not partitioned), so I have had the 'system reserved' partition created at Windows 7 initial installation time. I have several of problems with Windows 7, so I would like to reinstall it, but by keeping programs and files. The problem is that the Install file setup.exe looks into 'system reserved' partition rather than checking the C:/ hard drive, and as such does not want to proceed with the reinstall because of a lack of disk space (100 Mo only on 'system reserved' partition)...

- How could I do so making the install looking at C:/ rather than at that partition?
- And during the reinstall could I do so that this partition is not created anymore?

Missing Operating System Message Cannot Reinstall Windows 7

Aug 29, 2010

Shut down PC last night, all working perfectly. Today it won't boot with the "missing operating system" message. Have booted from Windows 7 installation disc, tried startup recovery - took 2 hours before reporting no automatic fix possible. It cannot find an installed Windows OS to do a system restore, so I attempted a "custom" clean re-install. However, I then get a "canot create system partition or find existing one" error message. I have tried to create a "New" one but nothing doing. I don't seem to have any HDD drivers to point to either.

System Reserved Partition Is Missing, But Windows 7 Pro Works Fine?

Feb 16, 2012

I have a Windows 7 Professional system that I went to take an image of using EASEUS TODO Workstation. When I went to do the backup, I noticed that there was no 100 MB System Reserved Partition. I made the image anyway. When I tested the image on a new machine, it prompted me to repair or start windows normally. Unable to start normally, so I did the repair. After about 10 min, the system came back and said it cannot repair.Outside of start a system from scratch, is there a way I can get the system reserved partition out of the Windows 7 partition?

Deleted System Partition First Windows 7, HDD Part Missing, 30gb Lost?

Dec 31, 2012

I am Ranko, from Europe ( Serbia, but in the eyes of world not so desired country so I do not mention it... but great food , great parties and the most beautiful girls should compensate )Ok. What I did. During Win 7 installation on my new Lenovo G780 ( 500gb HDD ) , I have deleted system ( 0 ) partition firstWin 7 offered/created 30gb system, 30gb primary, 440gb primary 2 ( unallocated ) and one Lenovo OEM partition 1mb.As my friend said , always first go from behind but I didint. Now I am missing 30gb of space, and can not retrieve it. So if I do installation from the beginning i just have 470 GB of space to alocate to partitions ( for example 100mb system , 100gb Primary & 369gb Primary 2 )So 30GB seems lost. I have installed win 7 and run diskmgmt.msc and only 1 disk with 470gb is shown.I tried linux with that partition software and the same... it shows just 470gb of space...30GB are missing/lost/not existing.Once again... so sorry guys for posting this issue since maybe it is something that is common, but I really do not want to give up. It is not up to 30GB , it is about the principle , I have to retrieve it!

Dell Inspiron Won't Start Missing Operating System Error?

Aug 8, 2012

Using the Windows 7 DVD that came with the machine I went through the repair Windows procedure 3 times. The first time it searched for restore points of which there are none because the machine has Rollback Rx installed instead. It then restarted with no change. I went through the same process but this time it said it had repaired Windows however; restarting gave me the same missing OS message. On the 3rd attempt it displayed the restored OS as being on D:. I ran the diagnostic tool and it said no errors were found. Restarting gave the same error.

I have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. Unable To Create A New System Partition Or Locate An Existing System Partition

Aug 13, 2012

I have a copy of windows 7 from a friend. (USB, possibly enterprise)It runs well, is official and can be re installed and is verified through the Microsoft site, so the media doesn't seem to be a problem.I was able to install Win7 Ult x64 on my WinVista HomePrem x86, but I went back through to clean the hard drive (it was full, I didn't format before) and after low level formatting I cannot reinstall the OS. The harddrives are completely empty, and I get stuck at "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," after hitting next when you are selecting the HD partition to install on. I tried a couple of things already:

-Installing on another harddrive
-Formatting using Hiren's bootcd
-Using a hard drive with XP installed to see if it is an upgrade and not a full version (no luck, still wouldn't install)
-diskpart > list disk > select disk 0 > list partition > active \ in cmd..I have three hard drives attached to the computer right now, they can't all be broken. T.T

Can Clean-reinstall Windows 7 On Its Partition Without Hosing Down XP

Aug 15, 2011

I have been running Win 7 and XP Pro in dual boot per Method Two of this tutorial, without any problems. When I tried to install SP1 of Win 7, it crashed and went back to the previous Restore Point which isworking OK for now. BUT--Windows Installer is now broken so I can't install anything from Windows Update, including taking another crack at SP1. Can I clean-reinstall Win 7 on its partition without hosing down XP?After the install I plan to run EasyBCD to re-connect XP to the initial boot menu. Does EasyBCD handle the writing of NST tldr and boot.ini to the right spots? Or do I have to save them somewhere?

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.

After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart, command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition, primary, ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.

BootMGR Missing - Unable To Reinstall Windows 7

Feb 5, 2013

I have tried reinstalling my windows 7 onto my SSD and am having no luck. I believe I have went through most guides / troubleshooting I could find on this website as well as others. After attempting to use my original cd with no luck, I followed the steps only to have the cd go no further than 73% of the step after "copying windows files". I then burnt / mounted, whatever you'd like to call it (properly) my Win 7 to my Thumb drive and at first windows said BOOTGR is missing.

So than I read to put in the cd, repair it using a command prompt "bootrec /fixboot" which it replied successful. After which I reinserted the flash-drive only to get the same error. I have tried partitioning, "clean all" (not in that order), multiple cds, thumb drives, my friends window 7 cd for giggles to see if I would have any luck, removing a stick of ram, all usb items but the kb/m. Desperate after literally 8 hours of working on this I tried my old copy of windows xp which gave me a blue screen of sorts.

Change The System Partition From XP Partition To Windows 7?

Apr 10, 2012

I currently have a dual boot on my computer with Windows 7 and XP. Unfortunately as my computer is quite old my hard drive is not very big and with it being partitioned I am fast running out of disk space. So I tried to shrink the XP partition to allow me more disk space for Windows 7. Unfortunatley this would only let me shrink it by 83mb for some reason. I decided that since I barely use XP anymore that I would simply reformat the XP drive then try and merge them together. When I tried to format the partition it just gave the error "Windows was unable to complete the format". I then discovered in Disk Management that the Windows XP partition was the system partition which was causing the problem.

Move System Reserve Partition To System Partition C:

Jun 28, 2012

Through a series of shenanigans involving experiments with mirroring on Windows 7 64 bit using Disk Management, and then subsequently removing the mirror after having recurring errors/problems with the synching, My 100MB System Reserve partition has ended up on a separate partition than my system image. For instance: Disk 1 System C: Healthy (Boot, page...) Disk 0 Healthy (System Reserved...).

In addition, the System Reserved partition has been assigned a drive letter "G:" or "E:" and is now visible in explorer and it won't allow me to remove it and supress from explorer view.

I'd like to

1) move/create the System Reserve partition to Disk 1 (with System C: drive)

2) remove the System Reserve partition from Disk 0 to free it all up as a data drive

Do I use command below to create a System Reserve on Disk 1? bcdboot C:Windows How do I then delete the System Reserve partition on Disk 0. Also a byproduct of all of this, when I reboot now, I have a "Windows 7" option and a "Windows 7 Secondary Plex" option. The "Windows 7" option no longer boots (it's stops while the logo panes are flying in circles to form the logo and goes into a fix loop that never fixes it). I have a feeling it's looking for the old mirrored hardware configuration or something. However, "Window 7 Secondary Plex" option does boot just fine. Do I use MSCONFIG to remove the "Windows 7" boot entry so I don't get this annoying option at boot?

Windows 7 Will Not Start Or Reinstall After Motherboard Change

Sep 11, 2011

My motherboard died on me, and so I had to change it together with the processor and RAM as there were no socket 775 motherboards available locally. However, Win 7 blue screens every time on start up, but very briefly, so I can't see the error message.

Win 7 repair then kicks in, but finds nothing wrong, so it goes round and round like that ad infinitum.

All the repair methods I have found require that you work within windows, which is patently stupid if you want to repair because you can't get windows to work - it's a bit like trying to open a box with a tool that's inside it!

I tried a new install, which has backed up my old Windows as Windows.old, and it goes though all the paces, but then refuses to accept the activation code.

I am now stuck with a non functioning PC, and am scared to add anything in the future in case of this type of thing.

Reinstall From Recovery Partition

Nov 1, 2012

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEC4SOE I bought cheap - needs a new screen. After purchasing first thing I done was a Reinstall of windows using F10 on boot up and following instructions. However after all finished Task manager showed 90+ processes at idle and the amount of bloatware was more than I had ever seen included with any PC.So, Made up a Windows 7 Install disc as I wanted to go for a totally fresh install. Once installed it asked for product key - I checked underneath and half of the sticker is missing (I know I should have checked before hand!) Plus thinking about it after I really don't think the product key can be reused even if it is on the same machine (can someone confirm?)I now have a nice clean operating system, but no product key, that will self destruct in 27 days! So I would like to return to VAIO factory state. I have checked and recovery partition is still there and intact - 13gb, but how can I reinstall from this partition? F10 now does nowt on boot up.

Windows 7 Won't Boot - No Operating System Listed / System Partition Not Valid

Oct 19, 2011

Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.

- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.

I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi

My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.

Reinstall Win 7, Many Missing Drivers

Nov 10, 2009

With the help of MS Tech Support on the phone [got right through!] he explained how to get rid of all my annoying partitiions. So, both drives were wiped out and made into single primary partitions.

I then installed Vista but had problems with a few of the drivers. A couple of them failed, but they were like 'touchpad' and such. Nothing that I saw as critical.

The minute Vista was complete, I custom installed Win 7 and it went well, execpt that it did say it could not find some drivers--of course, it did NOT say WHICH drivers! It just says, driver missing, click to browse or install.

I have no idea which one, or where it is.

So, rebooted to Win 7 and a few issues:

1: it knows the second hard drive is present and working, but it does not show in My Computer or Explorer. That is my biggest issue.

2: I have been installing second monitors on many machines for years, but this time, Win 7 can't seem to find my large moniitor. It worked before with Vista and it worked before with the first insall of Win 7.

It says missing drivers in the screen shots, but are these Vista drivers it wants? Or Win 7 drivers?
