Partition Missing After Windows 7 Installation?
Jun 20, 2010
1.I start installing a fresh copy of Win 7.2.At the point of installation which concerns partitions I delete my 2 old ones (had 2 partitions on 1 HDD) and create 2 new ones.3.I continue installation on the smaller partition (just for the OS purpose)
4.All done perfectly with installation.5.When I go to My Computer I am only showing drive C: (the smaller OS partition) and I don't see the second partition at all.

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.
After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart, command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition, primary, ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.

I have started the installation process of windows 7 on a clean 1 TB hard drive. In order to ensure expediency of the read time of my primary drive, I choose the custom installation. When I did I partioned the drive as 250GB & 700GB. Hoever it also created a 100MB system partition on its own. It never did this in Vista. Is it suppose to do that?

I have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. However, whenever I create the partition, it creates a primary one and gives me error saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.

I have been given the challenge to make a way to install Windows without any installation media and without having to even touch the computer while it's installing. So far I've made a .wim image with the help of this guide and I've made an Autounattend.xml file with thI put the install.wim image in the sources directory on a flash drive and the Autounattend.xml file in the root of the flash drive, and it does exactly what I want it to - all except it's not on a partition. So I move it to a partition and add a boot entry using EasyBCD. It boots fine, but it acts like the Autounattend.xml file isn't even there. So right now I have the choice of hands free installation with media, or manual installation without media. My main question is why the Autounattend.xml file isn't working when I boot the same media from a partition

I am installing windows on a new computer, and was watching the series of videos newegg has on the matter. I got to the third episode - [URL] and noticed that at about 12:30 into the video, he mentions creating a maximum size partition on the drive before installing windows. What purpose does this serve? Does it merely allocate the full size of the drive strictly to windows, so nothing else can use it?

I'm trying to install win7 from a usb (created from windows 7 usb dvd download tool) onto a formatted drive. I keep getting ''NTLDR is missing press ctrl + alt + delete to restart'' on my screen. Every 'solution' i've come across so far requires me to have some sort of boot disk or a previous version of windows on the drive. neither of which I have.

I installed Windows 7 on a formerly Vista Business computer. Now I would like to know, does a clean installation of Windows 7 automatically create a recovery partition or backup? Or do I need to format the Recovery Drive D(from the Vista installation) and make a backup on that drive (D)?

No install disks, no manual just letter telling me to protect customer data entire drive was wiped clean including Recovery partition. Checked disk management it shows all 4 primary partitions used: 200mb (boot), 169gb (C drive), 281gb (D drive), 16.5gb Recovery partition. I tried F9 when booting (nothing) just boots into OS. This setup is completely useless to me. Called Asus ($50.) for install disk they said call Microsoft, call Microsoft ($99. new disk) they said call Asus, I've already paid for Win 7 once and i'll be damned if I pay for it again. Typical corporation bullshit. What I want to do is install Win 7 on 1st part, 2nd (shared NTFS part), Ubuntu on logical partitions.

I have run the Windows 7 Compatibility Upgrade Advisor on my Vaio VGN-FZ190. I am getting that two drivers are not compatible with Windows 7:
1) The Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT has the latest that Sony publishes on its support web page for my laptop (Ver. 7.15.11.6760), dated 1/11/2008. On the Nvidia web site, it says that to get updates for my laptop "you must contact your computer vendor", so no updates are available there. Sony does not provide a newer Nvidia driver either.
2) The "Bluetooh Stack for Windows by Toshiba" Ver. 5.00.00. This is the most current driver that Sony publishes for this laptop model on the Vaio support web site.
I don't want to embark on the Windows 7 upgrade until I know I won't run into any critical issues that could lead me to who knows where.

I am preparing a laptop for sale, and have carried out a fresh install of Windows (booting from recovery CD). During this process, I selected 'Custom installation'followed by the hard disk partition containing my personal data and 'Drive options (advanced)', followed by 'Delete'. I am using dual booted laptop Windows 7 and Linux. I opened my Disk management and I right clicked the Linux partition drive and I selected "Delete Volume", After that i formated that partition. Now when I restarted my laptop, i got error like this:
"Grub loading. Error: Unknown files grub rescue>".
Then I created a live USB contains SGD iso file. I booted this USB on booting time and selected Windows boot. It asked in the black screen with options "Start windows normally " and " Launch and Start up Repair and " I selected the second option and I tried to restore my back up files, then I can see that C drive contains only the files and folders which I was stored in D drive. and D drive shows only 200 MB size. I dont have CD drive in my laptop. Before this problem:
C drive is -58GB
D drive is -141GB
Now C drive shows 141GB and contains the files which were in my D drive.

My specs:
ASUS M5A97 (AM3+) Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 945
2 x 4GB G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 RAM
PNY Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX 1GB
A 1TB SATA HDD (can't remember the brand)
A 160GB SATA HDD
My issue is, I'll try to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate x64, not a new installation at all, and I get the "Windows is Starting" screen and the little colored balls, but after a few seconds I get a very very quick blue screen and reboot before Windows even loads. There's no way I can read the blue screen error. So I thought, "Let's just do a startup repair." That didn't work; it said: Quote: Root cause found:The partition table does not have a valid System Partition
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 20632ms
So I pop in the Windows 7 installation DVD; it tells me there are missing CD/DVD drivers. I point it to the Windows 7 drivers directory on my primary HDD, it still can't find anything. So I load up my copy of MSDaRT. Some tools load, but it tells me "Tool requires a supported offline OS" under many of the tools, and the ones that do start won't do anything at all because they can't "see" my Windows 7 installation. I have an external HDD reader, but I'd rather not have to wipe everything and do a clean reinstall. Maybe trying to fix the partitions with a G-Parted on an Ubuntu Live CD or something?

Upon inserting the windows installation disk into the drive, the basic windows procedures took place. It then asked where we wanted to intall the windows operating system. We decided we wanted to partition his one and only hard drive (a 1TB Seagate at 7200rpm or so). We chose a 100GB partition to be the primary drive where the operating system would be installed. Windows also created a 104mb drive for system files or some nonsense. That left a 900 GB partition that would NOT have windows 7 installed on it. Everything installed, PC booted up and when we open windows explorer, the 900 GB drive does not appear. Maybe it has not been formatted?

I'm an IT proffesional, currently going learning for my Configuring Windows 7.I used windows 7 since the first beta came out, and I must say, I never was dissapointed by it.But because I am learning I am trying to get all the computers here running windows 7, and I have a computer in my office wich I am trying to install it on.There are a few problems thoug:The computer only has a CDrom player, and cannot boot from a usb device. When I first got it, windows XP was installed, and it only had 750 mb of memory. Stupid as I was, I decided to give it a try anyway installing windows 7 from inside Windows XP using an external DVD player connected with USB.This failed, and gave me lots of error so I tried the next step.
As It cannot find a network share I had to instal windows PE on a CDrom and from there I could acces my extrernal HDD where I had a clean copy of windows 7 on as INSTALL.wim. I cleaned everything, and created everything from scratch with succes. Image X worked, and BCDboot worked. So it seemed to go great. After restarting my system, it still will only give me, Missing operating system.I tried to search on the internet but couldn't really find something related to my problem. In the bios it says I can start from IDE CD-rom device, Diskette drive, Hard-Disk Drive c:, Integrated NIC (Disabled)I bought some different memory and I am now at 1.5 mb DDRIt is an Intel Pentium 4 processor 2.4 Ghz Level Cachge 512 Integrated. It's a DELL Optiplex Gx260 Series.
The boot menu gives me:. Normal2. Hard-Disk Drive C: (Wich I used for my 100mb) (And I used D for my big partition and with BCDboot I used D:WindowsSystem32cdboot d:windows /s D: ) Wich worked because he did copy the files.
