View 3 RepliesAs the title says i've seen guides online but they're a bit confusing. I had windows 7 on my computer before. but it got a virus and the usb that I install windows 7 with died on me. So I installed windows XP on my custom machine with a 1gb flash drive using wintoflash. But now i kinda want windows 7 back so I can play games. Is there anyway to do this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a sudden hard drive crash and have a system image back up on an external drive.I can't remove and replace the hard drive from the computer because there is about 2 inches of space to get a screwdriver in.I plugged my external drive into a laptop and followed the procedure for attaching a .vhd file.I have two files backed up on the same evening for some reason, 54 GB and 90GB.I couldn't get the 90GB vhd to attach properly until I unchecked the read only tab, it mounted, but I couldn't access any files.I clicked on the file, it asked me to click continue with admin control to permanently give access, it takes a few mins to load...but no files to open.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking at buying a new PSU as mine is only 375 watts and am adding new components. With a lot of the newer psu's the fan is on the top of the unit and not the back like mine. As I have no way to mount the psu at the top of the case (my case and board are both btx). I also have no vent holes at the top of the case. So am I able to mount it at the top with the fan blowing down? Will this cause any heat or ventilation issues in the case itself?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a clone computer that I built about a year ago. I put a 90Gb SSD in there and put win 7 on it. I also had 2 other hdd's in there from past computers. I was trying to use them as data disks so my ssd wouldn't get so full. Well since I never wiped them out from past computers they were getting close to full. So I took off all the data I wanted on one of the drives and then formatted that drive and mounted it to my ssd. It was working fine. Then one day I come home and turn on my computer and now it won't boot up. My SSD doesn't show up other than it being called the x: drive with only 31.4 MB on it. No kinda system restore points are shown, and a repair disk doesn't work, or even to try and reinstall doesn't work. It's like my computer isn't recognizing the ssd hard drive as my c: drive and the disk I just formatted is the disk they think is the c: drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have lost the ability to access a mounted drive.Previously, I would mount the drive and it would immediately open, saying it was Q: shared drive...). I have never had a problem before. The drive is from a True crypt encrypted file - I can mount the drive by entering the password to True Crypt, no problem. It mounts, shows up as local disc Q:, but when I click on it, it will not open and I get a message saying 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder'.When I follow the directions to security, and access the properties, I add my user name and tick full control but it the says:An error occured when trying to share Q, access is denied. The shared resource was not created at this time.I have also tried giving permission to 'Everyone' but the same thing happens.(This is complicated by the fact I have been having other problems today.Basically,I used HP Support Assistant to download updates for my laptop, since then I cannot open the devices and printers box - it just hangs and does not populate. I have done system restores, followed instructions from this forum about turning on bluetooth support, printer spooling, resetting explorer, but nothing has worked.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two Identical hard drives [1.5T WD in external caddys with both USB2 & eSata connections]. Both have been in use since I built computer Dec10. Now I plug them in and their not visible anymore? Their shown as a usb or scsi drive but no assigned drive letter or their "name".Their showing in the Disk manager and I found I had to manually tell it to mount and assign a drive letter[then their useable]. I tried another removable drive that was USB2 & firewire and the same thing. USB2 ,eSata or firewire and their all not visable in explorer. Yet I can plug in a flash drive and I can immediately see it once loaded. Is there a switch in registry or somewhere thats controls this. All these drives were immediately available in file explorer previously? Now I am having to use the DM to manually mount and assign them to read/write to them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

Under my computer the CD driver is mounted as E:
When I inserted CD/DVD in CD-ROM it opened as F:
Obviously I have tried to rename Drive F: to drive E: under computer Management. However, there is no Drive E: under Computer management. Only drive F:, When, I was tried to rename drive F: it didn't allow me to change to E: because it has already taken.
I have also openned regedit and looked under devices to change there. There is no Drive E: only Drive F: I changed and reboot the system and nothing happen. i.e not changed to E:
Is there any way I can Delete the E: drive under my computer so that I can change Drive F: to E: ?
My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to create a backup image of my Windows 7 OS but when using the native Backup utility I only see a way to create an image with all of my files attached to the image when all I want is just a backup of just the barebones system. I lost my original Windows 7 Install disk so was hoping there was a way to get a copy of the OS since I just recently ordered an SSD. Basically I was hoping to move my OS install over to the SSD while keeping my files on my current HDD intact.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe reason I ended up there was because I was getting a problem where, at random times during random programs, the computer would lose signal to the monitor... Pause for a while, then reboot. Figuring I might have old hardware profiles that needed updating, I went to check my windows updater and found it was disabled... A short series of checks and Gringo was head to head with a Zero Acess Infection, which he promptly kicked the backside of.However, since then, the black screen issue has returned. It seems it wasn't Malware related. It doesn't seem to have any obvious pattern. Sometimes it happens when nothing it happening at all, and when I get back to the computer there is just an error log.Sometimes it happens twice in a row, sometimes not for hours. CPU and GPU seem to be at normal tempsWhen windows reboots it has the following error log: Problem signature: Problem Event Name[CODE]
View 14 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a software available that lets you reboot from Windows and choose another OS besides the auto default, in a multiboot scenario?
I need something like this because I Dameware into my other computer a lot and would like to be able to get it to boot to another OS than default, remotely.
I guess I could use EasyBCD to change the default OS when I want to reboot but hoping to do this without editing bcd.
I followed the turorial and tried three or four times to make a VHD and it works but upon re-booting my PC the VHD I created is gone. I can get it back by re-attaching it but reboot and it's gone again. Oh my Bios is set up correctly in case any one asks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI remember a functionality in Vista/XP where you could hold the SHIFT button for a warm reboot which effectively avoided having to go through BIOS POST.
I have tried this in Windows 7 however no luck.
Has this been removed? if so that suck cause i have a RAID controller which takes a long time to go through all of its tests/init.
Anyone?
I was running Windows XP and kept the system up for weeks on end. I just installed Windows 7 7600 last night and throughout the night the system will just restart. I saw some "power" labeled things in the event viewer mostly some wake on things with an "unknown" source but honestly it's not shedding much light on things. Is there anything I can do, change or install that will monitor why this happens?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been following the progress of Windows 7 through beta stages. I currently operate on Windows XP SP3 which runs great, however Ive very recently decided to go for WIndows 7 beta. I completely backed up all my information, booted from DVD, formatted and then started to install.
It copies/ expands all the files to 100%, then does a normal restart, It then comes up with starting windows> registering entries etc, the carries on finalising the install only to reboot itself?
After the reboot it gives me the windows recovery screen. If it tries to boot up it just goes into a reboot loop. I am sooo confused.
The thing is I would say I know my way around PC software and Hardware very well. I have tried different BIOS settings, Optimising defaults, Load-Fail Safe Defaults, Creating New Partitions etc.
I've been trying to install Windows 7 on a brand new computer. It's running RAID 0, and I'm using the latest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer.
Starting up the installation seems to work fine. It goes through the first phase of installation where I choose which partition I want to use, and it starts to copy files from the dvd, yada yada yada. After the "installing updates" section, a window pops up with the following message:
"Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."
It then kicks me back to the start of installation. If I start the install again, it does the same thing. If I reboot and restart installation, also the same.
If I try a startup repair, I get a message saying that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.
I've tried this on two builds--7000 and 7077. Both have the same result.
Whats your Restart Time?

View 9 Replies View RelatedOnce i reboot my computer I get the issue shown in the picture attached.
In order to fix it, I go into the screen resolution and change it. Everything will go back to normal and I will then revert it back to the original. It's a tough thing to explain, so I havnt done much googling. any ideas?
Oh and it started happening after I added the RSS feed. I have tried removing it but it doesn't seem to help.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440, and after it crashed while I was out for Dinner yesterday, I have been encountering so many problems..Yesterday, I was able to get back into my "Account" and access my desktop, but after a few minutes of being on, every single program/application I had opened turned "Not Responding" and stayed that way.
Now today.. I thought it had gotten better, so I did virus scans, registry updates, defragmenting, all of that, and my Laptop worked fine for a few hours. Then it became worse.
I scheduled a Disk Check, and when it finished, it restarted my laptop, but after the Windows Logo that pops up, all I get is a black screen and a cursor that I can move around. This not only occurs in Normal Mode, but Safe Mode, Safe Mode + Network, and Safe Mode + Command Prompt
