View 1 RepliesJust this afternoon, I went to use my PC and got the following error; Windows has experienced a critical error and will restart in 1 minute. Running Windows 7 64 bit....With automatic updates so it should be the latest version of Windows...
My anti virus (Avira 2012 Internet Suite) pops up and states I have 2 viruses. But before the AV can do anything (delete the files) Windows shuts down....I finally got into Safe Mode and tried running my AV, while it was scanning I then got a BSOD. Had to start all over again; Running MalwareBytes now before trying to do the AV scan, just to see if MalwareBytes catches anything.
I have uninstalled the only application I've installed in 3 months, and problem still persists... I have a Hijackthis log if it needs to be viewed...Just let me know and I'll upload it.
My computer will randomly turn off. Only if I am using it. I can turn it on and it will sit forever, but if I use it.Shuts completely off with no warning, no error, nothing. I need to power it back on by pressing the power button. I went to CMOS and turned on restart on system failure and it does not restart. Don't think it's running hot.. at least, my gcard is only doing 48 C which is low. Idk if it's a software issue or hardware?I ran a scan of my computer using ESET NOD32 Smart Security = nothing found.
View 1 Replies View Relatedafter installing Windows 7 64bit, I start suffering from the next message:
windows 7 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32
toskrnl.exe
This issue continue occuring even after I tried several repairs of the OS. The strange thing is that only happen if remove the original disk from the DVD reader. If I leave the cd, the error does not occurred and the windows reboot normally.
i have a MSI A6000 Laptop. Ive been trying to fix this problem for 2 day with 12 hours time and read countless forums but still haven't been able to solve it.
I recently encountered windows 7x64 installation error, where i could not select disk partition to install. ( i formatted and deleted all of the partitions for a clean install). But somehow after running the memory diagnosis i was able to go through the installation. But during the installation on the second time it restarts, my computer gets a black screen when starting.
i cannot access the post screen menu or the recovery option( it is however possible to access the same thing via booting through the USB and selecting the recovery option instead of installing). Also the memory diagnosis tool does not work any more giving an error. The bios options are as follows:
MAIN : Serial ATA [Hard Disk]
Serial ATA [ATAPI CDROM]
Advanced: PCI Latency timer [64]
Legacy USB support [enabled]
AHCI Mode [endabled]
I have been a Mac user for 5 years and I just built my first PC yesterday so I don't know much. Is this a hardware of software issue? I'll provide any more details if requested.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI really have no clue why this is happening. Haven't really changed any hardware recently (except for a new mouse). Does not happen often, happened about 3 times a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was gone. Just today it happened two times in a row. Not load related since it happens while browsing or not really doing anything. Attached sysdata and two minidumps (just in case) from these last two crashes.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLast night my computer froze and gave me a BSOD, and when I tried to simply restart it, it would get to the windows splash screen and BSOD again. Then after trying a few things to fix it, its giving me the 'Reboot and select proper boot device etc'. Ive checked command prompt and it is showing my HDD as the 100 meg system partition that Windows 7 makes when installing, but I cannot access the rest of the drive.
Took the HDD out and to a mates place so I could get anything i needed off it before I just wiped the drive completely, and his computer did the same thing after a few minutes.
From that I assume it was a virus of some sort, and for me I can lose what I have on the HDD without caring too much, however he has things not backed up on his HDD that he really needs to recover.
Has anyone had this problem and been able to recover the data somehow?
I have a Inspiron One 2205 , since July 2011, as soon as my software warrant expired , I began having this error messages , Dell is asking for $234 to renew the software support contract , but I rarely used the one I had before ... so I'm looking for other Avenue. Even if I clicked F8 when the window logo appears , it's still goes to that error message. I can't even go to the safe mode. Only buttons that work is F2 and F12 , otherwise , it just give me the error message " Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot deivce and press a key"

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine until now. I also just ran a chkdsk from the win 7 cd recovery console and the drive worked fine so no problems there. I threw in some more RAM after which this error message began appearing, though I doubt this is the source of the problem. For some reason, the computer just cannot see or boot from the drive anymore. The BIOS sees it perfectly fine. I've ran through all the settings like the boot priority such.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 4 Win 7 computer that will not up-date, Windows shows 21 updates available (all 4 computers show same), upon reboot system says "Updates Failed". Each computer upon reboot dsiplays an error message saying the "updates failed". rinse - repeat. This started with one computer about a month ago, I now have 4 that are doing it. I have scanned with Combofix, Superantispyware, Rkill, Symamtec's Endpoint, eSet on-line, Panda on-line, Malwarebytes, JRT, ADWcleaner, CCleaner, FSS, awsMBR, and tried the MS FIXIT.
I also tried this procedure:
1) Disabled Windows update Service
2) Deleted all files in c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore and deleted files in c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download
4) 3) Downloaded and installed the most up to date Windows Update Agent.
5) Restarted Windows Update Agent, made sure Workstation and Background Intelligent Transfer Services were running.
6) Ran the MS Mr. Fixit program to repair update issues.
7) Ran the Windows update. 21 updates to install (as always).
8) Rebooted
9) Guess what, same issue!
I tried this on ALL 4 COMPUTERS I have with this SAME issue, 2 of which are on the same domain, the other two are laptops. ALL 4 FAILED. All four (4) again show the need to receive 21 updates. All 4 were again ran through the update process, all four (4) again failed post re-boot to take the updates (message stated up-dates failed post re-boot)
I tried putting the OS disk and restart, but I get the same error, and I dont know how to reinstall the OS. I can manage to get to the BIOS, if thats what its called, but Im not sure what to do from there. I tried setting priority to CD Rom but still, same error.Im running Windows 7 Home premium 64bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium on an old underpowered Dell Dimension XPS T700r with a P3 chip running at 700 MHz, 768 Mb Ram, and an old ATI Rage Pro 128 display adapter. It runs XP Pro just fine. All seems to be going well as Setup copies and expands files until the first reboot, when I receive "Disk Read Error, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart". This occurs using several different hard drives of sufficient capacity. It also occurs when I try the installation from a flash drive after mounting the Windows 7 ISO on Virtual Clone Drive from within XP. I've tried to install Windows 7 Starter but it, too, chokes at precisely the same point. I've tried all this on an similar machine with comparable but different components. Same result with all these attempts.I know I'm try to push the envelope in a downward direction here; Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor issues the standard warnings on processor speed, ram, and display adapter, advising that any installation will be sluggish and that the graphics adapter will not support Aero.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble installing Windows 7 on my freshly constructed computer. I've got a SSD, a HDD and a Blu-Ray/DVD player connected- the Blu-Ray player with the Windows 7 boot disc in the tray ready to run- and every time I boot my computer I get the message, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected drive...". The only way I can get to BIOS is by disconnecting all my storage drives and rebooting; none of my attempts to get my Windows 7 CD recognized have been effective. No matter what I do, I just get the, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected drive..." error.
That being said, I have no experience as a builder and I suspect it's due to some nuance in cable choices that I haven't figured out. I've connected all my drives to the PSU with the peripheral cables provided, I have the SATA III cables connected to the motherboard, but I'm not sure if one cable has been designated the master and the others slaves by default.
My computer started to freeze up a lot and now I receive the following error message on startup: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device. Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press any key."It is a Windows XP OS.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe reason I ended up there was because I was getting a problem where, at random times during random programs, the computer would lose signal to the monitor... Pause for a while, then reboot. Figuring I might have old hardware profiles that needed updating, I went to check my windows updater and found it was disabled... A short series of checks and Gringo was head to head with a Zero Acess Infection, which he promptly kicked the backside of.However, since then, the black screen issue has returned. It seems it wasn't Malware related. It doesn't seem to have any obvious pattern. Sometimes it happens when nothing it happening at all, and when I get back to the computer there is just an error log.Sometimes it happens twice in a row, sometimes not for hours. CPU and GPU seem to be at normal tempsWhen windows reboots it has the following error log: Problem signature: Problem Event Name[CODE]
View 14 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a software available that lets you reboot from Windows and choose another OS besides the auto default, in a multiboot scenario?
I need something like this because I Dameware into my other computer a lot and would like to be able to get it to boot to another OS than default, remotely.
I guess I could use EasyBCD to change the default OS when I want to reboot but hoping to do this without editing bcd.
I followed the turorial and tried three or four times to make a VHD and it works but upon re-booting my PC the VHD I created is gone. I can get it back by re-attaching it but reboot and it's gone again. Oh my Bios is set up correctly in case any one asks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI remember a functionality in Vista/XP where you could hold the SHIFT button for a warm reboot which effectively avoided having to go through BIOS POST.
I have tried this in Windows 7 however no luck.
Has this been removed? if so that suck cause i have a RAID controller which takes a long time to go through all of its tests/init.
Anyone?
I was running Windows XP and kept the system up for weeks on end. I just installed Windows 7 7600 last night and throughout the night the system will just restart. I saw some "power" labeled things in the event viewer mostly some wake on things with an "unknown" source but honestly it's not shedding much light on things. Is there anything I can do, change or install that will monitor why this happens?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been following the progress of Windows 7 through beta stages. I currently operate on Windows XP SP3 which runs great, however Ive very recently decided to go for WIndows 7 beta. I completely backed up all my information, booted from DVD, formatted and then started to install.
It copies/ expands all the files to 100%, then does a normal restart, It then comes up with starting windows> registering entries etc, the carries on finalising the install only to reboot itself?
After the reboot it gives me the windows recovery screen. If it tries to boot up it just goes into a reboot loop. I am sooo confused.
The thing is I would say I know my way around PC software and Hardware very well. I have tried different BIOS settings, Optimising defaults, Load-Fail Safe Defaults, Creating New Partitions etc.
I've been trying to install Windows 7 on a brand new computer. It's running RAID 0, and I'm using the latest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer.
Starting up the installation seems to work fine. It goes through the first phase of installation where I choose which partition I want to use, and it starts to copy files from the dvd, yada yada yada. After the "installing updates" section, a window pops up with the following message:
"Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."
It then kicks me back to the start of installation. If I start the install again, it does the same thing. If I reboot and restart installation, also the same.
If I try a startup repair, I get a message saying that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.
I've tried this on two builds--7000 and 7077. Both have the same result.
Whats your Restart Time?
