I really have no clue why this is happening. Haven't really changed any hardware recently (except for a new mouse). Does not happen often, happened about 3 times a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was gone. Just today it happened two times in a row. Not load related since it happens while browsing or not really doing anything. Attached sysdata and two minidumps (just in case) from these last two crashes.
View 8 RepliesEvery once in a while, my tablet PC/laptop will either just shut off completely, or will crash with a Stop 0x124 error. It mostly seems to happen when I have Firefox and IE open (I take classes online that require IE, otherwise I would never use it!), and I am using my mouse wheel to scroll a webpage up or down. It doesn't matter if I am scrolling in IE or in FF.
I checked online and from what I can see, this 124 error is pointing to either RAM or the BIOS, but can't determine which. I have 4gb RAM in this machine, and I have swapped it out already, as well as the hard drive. The only difference is that the machine came with Vista on it (from HP), and I put Win7 on it. HP did have drivers for this laptop on Win7, and I have installed all of those with no problems.
I replaced the hard drive about 6 months ago because the machine wouldn't boot up, and when I booted off the Win7 CD and ran chkdsk /r, it found a TON of bad clusters at the beginning of the drive, where I'm guessing the boot sector and boot files/partition would be. So I cloned the drive to the replacement, then ran a "repair" installation on Win7 to make sure none of the files were corrupted. Then I did all of the Windows Updates that I was prompted to install.
Has anyone been able to resolve a Stop 0x124 error, and if so, how?
I have some problems with Bluescreen of deaths. I had this problems in the past, and i reinstalled my whole laptop,But now i getting BSOD agaI get this BSOD's when im am playing games like: Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - Multiplayer, League of Legends. Games that I think my laptop should be running fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have an HP Pavilion dv6z notebook running 64 bit Windows 7, it originally came with Vista pre-installed but I received an upgrade disc when 7 came out, that I have for about 3 years now. It was running great until about August or September last year when I would occasionally get a blue screen when playing Fallout New Vegas, which I had been playing on and off since Christmas 2010. This happened once every couple of weeks. Since then slowly more programs things have been tripping the blue screen and the frequency has increased. Now a number of games, though mostly newer 3d games and minecraft, have been setting it off. Then I started having it also occasionally blue screen when using a web browser or watching a video file.
The notebook is a HP Pavilion dv6z (s/n: CNF9351VRX, p/n: NT594AV), with an AMD Turion x2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-75 cpu, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 graphics card, an Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter, a 300 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of ram, and a blu-ray drive. I don't know what the motherboard or sound cards are. It is not being overclocked, I don�t even know how to overclock things even if I wanted to. Also it is not a RAID drive as it only has one drive.
I have reset to factory settings in December, though that was due to a virus creeping in and ravaging windows, so reinstalled 7 and it now has a cleaner version on, but the problem persists. I've driver swept and reinstalled me drivers with no luck. I have also virus, spyware, trojan, and malware scanned finding nothing. I've torture tested the CPU and it passed with flying colors. I stress tested the memory with much the same result. I replaced the hard drive thinking it could be an issue, and no go there. Then figuring it was a thermal issue I got a friend and we ripped the notebook open and replaced the thermal paste. The fan seems fine and since doing it on the whole it has run quite a bit cooler since the CPU paste was pretty stiff. That seemed to work for about two to three weeks and bam again another blue screen, which is always the same regarding hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. I know it is a 0x124 error and as such different to diagnose the issue since it is likely hardware related but I dont know what else to try to test figure out the problem.
It seems I've been having random BSOD Stop errors ever since I put my new PC together about a month ago. I'm not sure what's causing it, and it's happened when I've been doing different things, but it almost seems to happen more frequently when I'm listening to Pandora Radio on my web browser (chrome).Switched my BIOS from AHCI to IDE (read on google this fixed some issues). Did not fix the issue.Read the windows website and attempted to get a hotfix for SATA hard drives (something about them not waking up in 10 seconds). I have a windows7 image that I am putting on different dell model. I notice that when I start up the machines, they continuously reboot. Is there a migration tool that i can use to stop the reboot?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently my wife's HP G62 laptop running Home Pro 7 has started having am intermittent keyboard. At first I thought it was the wireless USB keyboard/mouse she had plugged into the machine, but the same happens with just the built in keyboard (the mouse seems to function fine). The problem is that randomly the keyboard will stop working in applications and won't work again until a reboot. The keyboard seems to work fine in safe mode and actually works fine for typing in things like the run box in the start menu, but it will cause firefox and microsoft office to hang. I cannot seem to find what is triggering this condition (coming out of sleep mode, etc.), but it sometimes can be fast, other times it can take a day until it happens again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter about each second/third reboot one of my 6 hard drives become read only. It usually happen to a random drive (though, so far drive where W7 is installed never had that disease, yet) . I can't change any files on that drive and even right click option "New" is missing too (meaning I can't create new folders, files, etc.) The drive stays read only until I run check disk with "automatic fix file system errors" enabled. (UPDATE: it worked only once, after that I had to clear up readonly attribute with diskpart shell command)I don't recall ever seeing W7 do scan disk at startup, but I've seen XP doing that, but XP does it usually to one HDD,because of one faulty program I'm using on it. So, I'm not sure if W7 even has that scan at boot feature at all...If for some reason it decided mark a hdd as "dirty", then why not scan it at boot as XP does?

i cannot recall the first time it started but it keeps happening here and then, everyday, with full load or in idle state and happens most of the time on windows, happened just once when i was on my linux install with the latest kernel from chakra repos, which i cannot say for sure the version.i have that feeling that it is vga related because most of the reboots happens when i am watching videos in flash (like Internet); even if the video is paused and i am working on something else.
I've recently just got a BSOD after several freezes and reboots(mostly on startup) and hoped that someone could figure out the problem. I install Windows 7 -> plug disk to other PC (new hardware found message about HDD) -> pc permanent reboot randomly within 3 min -> disk back to source PC -> all fine
I have no clue what to do.
Something similar has happened before (about half a year ago) but it got fixed when I did a system repair through command promt, until these few days...the loop came back again, sometimes it would boot like normal, at times it would get stuck or it'll go into a "checking file system" screen. It first started when I was browsing the web like usual, the comp suddenly froze and popped out a blue screen, it was too quick for me to capture it tho...In the past few days its gotten the BSOD a few times ive managed to take down a couple of the STOP codes 0x0000003D and 0x0000003B, im sure Ive gotten other ones too but i only remembered these 2.I've tried system repair & restore and command prompt but none worked...i have no idea whats wrong (hardware or software?) so im hoping someone can help me find a permanent fix if possible?

Recently I built a computer but shortly after I began using it the screen would go black and stop responding to anything, I couldn't even power it down from the on/off button, I had to shut it down from the switch on the battery and sometimes that fail before working.

Also, multiple attempts to fix the BSOD problem by using System Restore has resulted in a BSOD crash.Every BSOD has displayed "STOP: 0x000000F4" To my knowledge, no new hardware has been installed on my computer in several months.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was first using Windows 7 build ~7200, till it ran out of support and I did a fresh install with Windows 7 RTM OEM 64Bit Ultimate. Running it I started expiriencing the bug.
Videos stop randomly for ~1-2mins and get of sync in WMP; Firefox turns to "no reponse" and gets white after I clicked on a link. Clicking on another programm (the mouse is not freezing) makes the program stop to "no response". This also happens to the taskmanager, I've always opened on my second monitor.
After the freeze for ~1-2mins, everything continues normally. I thought something could be buggy with my Installtion and installed another Windows 7 Professional RTM 64Bit. Which I'm running now.
The some sort of this bug already happend without any drivers (running the pure OS), but I'm still not completely sure about it, if it's the same bug. I was sure it would go away with the fresh install and didn't, care I'm sorry.
Another issue:
Running WarCraft3 in windowed mode never took me down to 20fps, which is unplayable, it was ok as I had my new 24'' Monitor and tried to run it in window mode full screen on it to get down to 20-25fps on high grafics, but now it's 15-20fps really laggy on my laptopmonitor, which makes me think about my freeze bug.
Google couldn't help me, installing newest drivers and clean windows didn't help me.
I didn't install new software until that bug appeard, so I guess it's a new driver (because I couldn't find the old ones) or Windows 7 new onboard driver problem.
Memtest86+ ran for more than 8h this night, negative.
I have an other idea: Could it be the harddrive which locks up? Because everything continues normally (like the mouse) taskmanager still shows which process is taking most CPU capacity, but as soon as I perform an action, it locks up/freezes.
The harddrive is as old as the computer, which means about 3 years. What do you think? Could it be the harddrive? Should I try replacing it?
My iTunes always crashes at the most random times. Usually every 30 minutes to 1 hour it just says iTunes has stopped working...

PC would reboot itself randomly and the event viewer says kernel-power event 41 task 63. My biggest hunch is the PSU because there was one time just after I built the PC, it would not turn on when power button was pressed. MOBO status light was lit. Tried shorting out the actual power pins on the MOBO but still did not turn it on. It would also sometimes turn on then off then on again by itself.
Also whenever I'm in CMOS setup, the various voltages seem to be unstable, it would go up and down by +/- .002 or something like that.
Because of those two points plus the PSU is already used and old (was prev used in a server which ran 24/7) I reckon it's the PSU. But before I go buying a new PSU, I thought I'd get your opinions.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly.What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern.And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

I purchased Windows 7x64 Professional last night. I downloaded it and burned the DVD, I had to use a workaround to burn the DVD due to the fact that I have XP 32bit installed. Once the DVD was burned I began the installation. As soon as I selected the HDD to install on and Custom installation, I hit next. The install began and I got the BSOD when it was expanding the installation files.
I have been a PC Tech since I was 10, I'm A+,MCSE and DCSE Certified, so I'm sure you will be able to see why this is aggravating me so badly.
A friends PC keeps crashing after a few hours of usage (watching movies, listening to music). I've been attempting to troubleshoot it but I'm not to sure about how to find the cause of the problem. Based on my google search, which led me here, it's caused by either RAM, HDD, Drivers or overheating. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws.The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

I have Windows 7 Home, 64bit, 4 G of RAM, GTX 285, Intel Core 2 Quad I had recently installed trial version of Kapersky . I had an earlier message after trying to restart and a black screen with the message bad image sector or something like that. It started several times before. Now it will not start and I had to disable the automatic startup and I got the above messege. I cannot do the system restore because it just won't and I hear Kapersky sometimes prevents this. No detecable disk errors have been noted but it still will not even boot into safe mode. This process just keeps repeating and nothing seems to be helping. I had this message before when my screen flickered before but the computer kept running. It has restarted automatically before also but with no problems. My system will also, not restore to another check point. I am ready to reinstall windows.
I built my system about 2 years ago and I've done my research and ran the memtest and stress tests and they all passed. But, I still get BSODs and it seems very random, if I'm listening to music, playing games, or just surf the net I get a BSOD now and then. It happens once every month but in the past week it crashed multiple times so I'm at my wits end.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe OS is crashing when viewing a flick in TVU Player. So far, this is the only time this occurs, I can watch a variety of other video apps without any problem (knock on wood). What I did find searching seemed to point to a general concensus that the root of the problem was the Nvidia driver, but those posts were over a year old, and I would hope that Nvidia would have gotten it straight by now.
The process mentioned in the BSODs is nvlddlkm.sys, which obviously is part of the nvidia drivers. I'm currently using the latest Nvidia driver, and it didn't sound like going back to an older driver was likely a solution.
Since this appears to only effect TVU Player, one might think that it is the culprit, but I have tried several different versions of it without an improvement. Bottom line is whether anyone has any relevant suggestions, other than just stabbing in the dark?
