Cannot Reboot / Restart Computer
Aug 5, 2011
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440, and after it crashed while I was out for Dinner yesterday, I have been encountering so many problems..Yesterday, I was able to get back into my "Account" and access my desktop, but after a few minutes of being on, every single program/application I had opened turned "Not Responding" and stayed that way.
Now today.. I thought it had gotten better, so I did virus scans, registry updates, defragmenting, all of that, and my Laptop worked fine for a few hours. Then it became worse.
I scheduled a Disk Check, and when it finished, it restarted my laptop, but after the Windows Logo that pops up, all I get is a black screen and a cursor that I can move around. This not only occurs in Normal Mode, but Safe Mode, Safe Mode + Network, and Safe Mode + Command Prompt

I recently build myself a gaming computer the specs are as follows:
i5 3570k
16GB G.Skill 1600 Mhz
ASRock Extreme4
Evga 750 Watt PSU
Asus GTX 670 2GB
After I Installed all of the drivers for everything but the graphics card it was finally time for that and as soon as I downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia and restarted my computer I immediately got into a reboot loop and any time I've tried going into safe mode to delete the drivers my computer restarts. On top of all of that there are these red vertical lines all over my monitor.

A friend (yeah, right) has a new laptop & tech support said that rebooting/power cycle (turn machine "off", wait & power on) after updating "activates" the updates; while restarting only installs updates.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD4870 x2
Running on windows 7 x64 ultimate
I was browsing away and my whole pc froze, with a strange little box around my cursor, although the sound was still working, I force shut down it and restarted and little message popped up saying the display driver has stopped working, I tried multiple things to solve this, to no avail, eventually it kept happening and it got so bad the computer would not start, i tried all of the "F" keys on startup and none worked, eventually i took it to a shop who wiped everything clean and it worked again.
Around 2 months down the line low and behold the same problem happened again, I found a solution and installed a program called driver robot, I used it and installed many outdated drivers, this seemed to fix the problem. For about 6 months, now it has happened again, my computer has now shut down and goes into a constant restart loop, as it is doing this the screens that show up are littered with dots and lines of many colours, I just need workaround on this, preferably without loosing all of my files.

I am trying to upgrade Vista to Windows7 Home Premium and I got this message after the installer copied ~2GB of files on my PC:
"setup can't continue. restart the computer and restart setup. when prompted try getting the latest updates."
I restarted the PC and restarted the setup and I got the same message. I updated the Mother Board Bios and restarted the setup I got the same message. I have tried both options (get update and no update during the setup). And it didn't work.
I do not want to do custom install (fresh install) on my computer.

Certainly when the computer tells me to reboot, I reboot...other then that I really just put it to sleep at the end of the night. I realized today that I hadn't rebooted the computer in quiet sometime, Over a week, in fact. So I guess that's the question: How often, if ever is it "good housekeeping" to reboot the computer?
My system:
i7-3770k
128gb SSD
500gb HD
gigabyte 7970 gh edition
32 gb ram(I know...it's stupid over kill)
Win7 Home premium installed on SSD

I'm having a problem loading windows as well. My computer mid use was starting to seriously lag and when I restarted it it began the dreaded system repair system restore loop. It tries to repair itself again and again and then says it can't and asks if you want to shut it down. This has happened once before and it took me forever looking thru forums to find the solution. I just can't remember what I did. I wanna say I did something with a command line. I don't have a windows disc. And I don't believe I did a complete factory reset the last time either.

I was shutting down my laptop last night and there was a program (Adobe Reader, I think) that caused it to wait before shutting down. I left it assuming it would eventually shut down. I pushed the power button this morning to turn the computer on, and it says "resuming Windows" and then goes to the screen that says "Logging off". It has been hung up on that screen for over 30 minutes now, so who knows how long it did that last night when it was supposed to shut down. I can press and hold the power button to get it to power down, but when I press the power button again, it starts the same "resuming Windows" stuff all over again. I tried tapping the F8 button when it was restarting, but no luck. I can't use my computer at all, This is a pretty new laptop (Dell), so this is especially frustrating. Not to mention I have LOTS of work to do and I everything is on that laptop.

My computer has been running very slowly lately after I restart it. On average after I restart, it takes noticeably longer to launch and run programs. If I leave it sitting on my desk running, somewhere between 12-36 hours after I restarted, it will run just fine. I defrag my drive regularly, and also run virus scans regularly with Malwarebytes and a few other tools. This has been a problem for a while and I've tried a lot of things to fix it with no luck, including registry defraggers / optimizers, cleaning temp files, CleanMem, and several other tools. I'd love some ideas for things to try.

I when I opt to restart my computer, it will not. As an example, if I download an update and restart it will not. The computer goes into a loop at the initial startup. Like it is hanging up and get it to the last step. Now if I press the button to the turn it on, it boots up fine.

am completely stuck and not sure what to do. I am a MS employee, got a free (legal) copy of Win7 ultimate under the home usage program and our internal help desk says they donupport. I have loaded many OS onto laptops at work, so know the basic routine. Computer is HP Pavillion Desktop, came with Vista Home edition about two years ago. I checked for compatibility and chose to do a custom install. On first install I forgot to eliminate the second partition that had the original image. Computer booted up ok (incredibly slow, about 15 minutes) but could reboot without bluescreen. Wireless worked, I was able to do some windows updates but knew something was very wrong, so didnattempt to reinstall programs. Printer driver loaded on its own. Re-did the custom install, this time deleting the extra partition.
Now, I can barely boot up, the machine blue screens on the way, wireless does work and it doesn recognize my home network or any other network (usually there are 3 or 4 in my neighborhood that show up). Shutting down will blue screen as well, I tried yesterday. Im leaving it up and running hoping for a miracle cure. On first attempt, I was able to capture this information. i've recently built a mid-range system & game wise it's great, but i've been having the same issue.
intel core i7 920 2.66ghz
6gb patriot g series 1600mhz ram 9-9-9-24
320gb 7200rpm seagate barracuda sata hdd
his radeon hd6850 iceq x turbo
corsair h50 hydro series
the issue i'm having is that sometimes, during a Internet video, an online streamed video, photo-editing or even browsing pictures in my pictures, everything suddenly freezes, i can't move the mouse, keyboard, the screen remains frozen on whatever it was on at that time, and even after waiting it doesn't come back to life and i have to reboot.. on the rare occasion it comes back to life, it does so with a 'beep' i've tried re-formatting completely, to no avail. i've ran a disk check, an sfc in dos, several memtests, defragging and i've purchased a new psu, updated my bios, chipset, and all other drivers but i just can't get it to stop.. i am at a complete loss. all of these tests provided positive results, no errors. i've monitored my temps and my gpu idle at 34 with a high end of 62 when fully gaming, and my cpu idles at 37 and never goes past 60 when fully gaming, does anyone have any idea at all? the only ones i have remaining are that the hard drive is on the way out, but it doesn't make sense because the disk check reports zero errors.

It has Windows 7: Ultimate (32-Bit). Also, I don't want everything to reset, just some things.

when I hit 'reboot', my computer shuts down fine but when it is supposed to reboot, my monitor light stays orange (whereas it's blue when it's in use) and the computer just never... boots I guess. The screen stays black. If I press the reboot button on my tower, then I can boot into windows.
I've checked the event viewer and nothing came up except something about a missing driver (The AODDriver4.2 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.).
This has been going on since I performed a system restore a month ago because an update of Malwarebytes (to the latest version) literally killed my internet (ISP came out and for three weeks worked on it - giving me a new, direct line I don't share with anyone in my apartment, giving me a new ethernet cable, trying a new network card etc) and finally I was told to uninstall all AV/anti-malware programs one by one (since I've MS Security Essentials and MWB), and after MWB was uninstalled, bam, my internet was fine.).
Not sure what's going on, and I don't really know what information to provide for this since there isn't an error, my Windows just isn't booting.
MWB said nothing was detected (full scan), same for my AV, so what could this be?
ETA; From the Event Viewer, listed as Warning, at the time I rebooted: Quote: The Transaction (UOW={c055ddca-29fe-11e2-b7f3-00261840ca2c}, Description='') was unable to be committed, and instead rolled back; this was due to an error message returned by CLFS while attempting to write a Prepare or Commit record for the Transaction. The CLFS error returned was: 0xc0190052.

I have Win XP installed on my PC and I have tried several times to do a dual boot with Windows 7 RC and after each attempt I have put my system back to normal by reformatting the Windows 7 partition with Acronis Disk doctor and reimaging XP Pro with Acronis true Image.
What happens is I go through the install and the green progress bar goes pretty well right across the screen and all the stages are checked of as they are done then I get the screen that the computer wants to reboot and I let it time out and when it starts up again I get "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" the first time I left it because I didn't want to reinstall again after some time with the PC still at that screen I pressed a key and nothing happened.
Another time I pressed the key and it wanted to do another installation so I let it do a repair and when it rebooted the same thing so I tried again and removed the disk when it rebooted and when the PC gets through POST I get a black screen with a blinking cursor that I cant type anything to.
I would imagine that if I can get past this point it would be where I type in the product key.
I have tried this disk on another computer in Ubuntu with virtual box and it installed ok. I have the boot order correct I have recently installed XP pro on it. I am using a PS2 keyboard that was OK for the XP install and I can get into Bios OK.

When I do a "restart", on the computer screen I could see "log out", a few seconds later, "shutdown." At this point, the system stalls at "shutdown." I waiting for over 5 minutes, and it was still stalled at "shutdown." To continue working with my computer, at the ""Shut down stall", I remove the power cord from my computer. About a minute later, I reconnect my power cord and click the power button. After that there is no problem. Except when I do a "Restart."

I have two computers and I use them both a lot. They are both for work. I have Input Defender to allow me to use my mouse on both screens. Unfortunately, quite often my laptop seems to boot up and isn't connected to the network at all. I have to restart it and / or just wait till it decides to connect. Sometimes hours.
How can I figure out why it's not connecting to the the network and / or Internet.
